The IPL 2024 was a batting paradise for some players. There were multiple batting records which were broken in IPL 2024. However, some players had a hard time in IPL 2024 and registered multiple ducks. Here is a list of players with the most ducks in IPL 2024.
Glenn Maxwell topped the list with four ducks next to his name. The Australian all-rounder had a very poor season in spite of playing at possibly the most batting-friendly ground. Travis Head ranked second but his other knocks in the season made up for his three ducks. Head was not only one of the highest run-scorers in IPL 2024 but he was also responsible for many batting records being broken. Suryakumar Yadav was not in the playing 11 at the start of the tournament for Mumbai Indians because of his injury. Once SKY returned, he had a hot and cold season and was dismissed for a duck thrice in the season.

Glenn Maxwell tops the list for having the most ducks in IPL. The Australian all-rounder has 18 ducks to his name. In spite of being one of the most destructive batters in the league, Maxwell has registered the most ducks in IPL. The right-handed batter has always been a volatile IPL player. He had four ducks in IPL 2024 which was the most by any batter. But to Maxwell’s advantage, despite his 18 ducks he has always attracted high amounts of bids in the auctions.

After playing his last season, Dinesh Karthik will probably look at this record with disappointment. The Indian wicketkeeper has been one of the best players in the league’s history. However, Karthik has the joint-most ducks in IPL. Karthik will hope his former teammate, Maxwell is dismissed for a duck at least once more. The veteran batter has scored close to 5000 runs despite his 18 ducks. While he has this infamous record, in his last few seasons, Karthik played a huge role at RCB and was one of the reasons why RCB qualified for playoffs in IPL 2022 and 2024.
For a long time, the race for most ducks was between Karthik and the Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma. But thanks to his IPL 2024 campaign where he had only one duck, he was overtaken by Karthik and Maxwell. Rohit has 17 ducks to his name which is a major reason for his surprisingly low average in the IPL. The five-time IPL-winning captain has 6,628 runs and ranks third in the all-time list for the most runs despite his 17 ducks. While he has retired from T20 internationals, Rohit will continue to play in the IPL which could mean that he can overtake Karthik in this unfortunate list.
Piyush Chawla is the first bowler to make it into this list. Chawla would not really mind having 16 ducks considering he is a bowler and is rarely used for his batting. However, the Indian leg-spinner is no mug with the bat in hand. Chawla is responsible for one of the most famous finishes to an IPL final when he scored 13 runs off five balls in 2014 which included a six off Mitchell Johnson’s bowling. If Chawla keeps on playing for a few more seasons he too can climb up a few spots and save the batters from some embarrassment.
With the role Sunil Narine plays at the Kolkata Knight Riders, there is no doubt that anyone would make a big issue of his 16 ducks. The West Indian mystery spinner is often asked to open the innings. As an opener, it is expected of him to play risk-taking shots from the very first ball. There have been many times when his risk-taking ability has backfired for him and he has been dismissed for a duck. But once he is in his groove with the bat in hand he can be really dangerous as was seen in IPL 2024.
Rohit Sharma also tops the list for having the most ducks in the IPL as a captain. Even though Rohit is not a captain anymore, it looks highly unlikely that his record of 11 ducks as a captain will be broken in the near future. The Indian head coach, Gautam Gambhir ranks second with 10 ducks as the skipper in IPL. In spite of being a two-time IPL-winning captain, this record could be a dark spot in his legacy. Australian giants, Adam Gilchrist and Shane are joint-third with seven ducks. Surprisingly, all the top four captains have won the IPL trophy at least once. Even though he is the top run-scorer in IPL history, Virat Kohli ranks fifth on this list with six ducks to his name.
Rohit Sharma is the Indian player with the most ducks in IPL. The T20 World Cup-winning captain has this infamous record to his name. While he is certainly one of the all-time greats for India in white-ball cricket, Rohit has had an average career as a batter in the IPL by his standards. While there is no possible way to decrease his ducks, Rohit would certainly like to increase the amount of ducks in the upcoming seasons.
