Most Fifties in BBL 2025

Loading table...

David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, and Ben Duckett hold the joint record of hitting the most fifties in BBL 2024/25. The three batters smashed three half-centuries each. Among them, Warner scored the most runs. The former Australian opening batter made 405 runs in the season and led Sydney Thunder to a runner-up finish.

Maxwell scored 325 runs in the season at a strike rate of 186.78. His performances helped the Melbourne Stars reach the playoffs even after losing their first five games of the season. Duckett scored 243 runs in seven games and played in his usual manner with a strike rate of 154.77.

5. Glenn Maxwell (21 fifties)

There are seldom any batting record lists that do not feature the name of Glenn Maxwell. The Australian all-rounder with 21 half-centuries has the 5th most fifties in the BBL. Fondly known as the ‘Big Show’, the right-hander has often lit up the BBL crowds with high-striking abilities. He holds the record for making the highest individual score in the tournament as well with his knock of 154*.

Four times in his career Maxwell has struck three fifties in a single season. He achieved this in 2017/18, 2019/20, 2020/21, and 2024/25. In 2019/20, the Stars made their third final after finishing at the top of the points table. The Australian all-rounder during the season scored 398 runs in 17 games with a strike rate of 148.5. In the same season, Maxwell recorded his best season with the ball in hand picking up 10 wickets.

4. D’Arcy Short (23 fifties)

D’Arcy Short has the 4th most fifties in the BBL. The opening batter has 23 fifties to his name in the league. However, after bursting onto the scene in 2017/18, Short has performed underwhelmingly in the last few seasons. The left-handed batter in the last two seasons has made 397 runs averaging only 19.85. His strike rate too has dropped during this period. Short would like to bounce back from his poor performances in the previous season and once again dominate the bowling attacks playing for the Adelaide Strikers.

Short’s best performance in the Big Bash League came in 2018/19. During the season, the left-handed opening batter scored 637 runs. This is the second-most runs a batter has scored in a single season of the BBL. Short made six half-centuries in the season averaging 53.08 striking at more than 140.

3. Aaron Finch (26 fifties)

Aaron Finch has the 3rd most fifties in the BBL. The former Australian skipper made 26 in the tournament. Finch in international cricket was the mainstay of the Australian team in both white-ball formats. The opening batter, however, was not able to find the same level of success in the Big Bash League. Finch has the second-most runs in the tournament and despite his consistency, the right-handed batter has failed to set the stage on fire in the BBL. His strike rate in the tournament is 131.12 in comparison to 142.5 in T20Is.

Finch retired last year after playing for the Melbourne Renegade for 13 seasons. His best season in the tournament came in 2016/17. Finch scored 354 runs in the season hitting four fifties. The opening batter has made four fitties in a season twice more in 2021/22 and 2022/23.

2. Shaun Marsh (27 fifties)

Shaun Marsh has the 2nd most fifties in the BBL. The middle-order batter has hit 27 fifties in the tournament. But the astonishing fact is that his 27 fifties have come in only 79 matches. While Shaun does not have a century to his name, he certainly is one of the best batters in the history of the BBL. The former Australian batter was one of the most consistent performers in the league. He retired last season as a decorated player of the league.

Shaun’s best season in the Big Bash came in 2012/13 where he made 412 runs. The Perth Scorchers’ batter was the highest run-scorer in the season. In nine matches, the left-handed batter made five fifties. Even a move to Melbourne Renegades late in his career did not put a brake on his consistent scoring. In his first two seasons with the Renegades, Shaun made six fifties.

1. Chris Lynn (31 fifties)

Chris Lynn like many batting records ranks one for having the most fifties in the BBL. The opening batter has made 31 fifties in the marquee T20 league. Lynn’s ability to consistently churn out 300+ runs seasons while maintaining a strike rate of 149 makes him an indispensable player in the competition. The right-handed batter has the most runs in the BBL. Lynn is one of the best batters against extreme-pace bowling and can play short-pitch deliveries quite well. His sixes clear the longest of the boundaries in Australia with ease.

Lynn’s best season in the tournament came in 2020/21. Playing for the Brisbane Heat, the opening batter made 458 runs in 13 matches and smashed five half-centuries. His strike rate in the season was more than 154. Lynn has made at least one half-century in a season 12 out of 13 times. The only season where the right-handed batter failed to do so was his first season.

Aaron Finch for Melbourne Renegades has hit the most fifties for a single team in the BBL. The former Australian skipper played for the Renegades all through his 13-year-long career in the BBL where he made 26 fifties. Chris Lynn ranks second with 24 fifties for the Brisbane Heat. D’Arcy Short with 20 half-centuries for Hobart Hurricanes is ranked third on the list.
