In the previous season of the 2024 TNPL, Dindigul Dragons defeated the Kovai Kings in the Final and won by 6 wickets at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. As of 2025, TNCA has successfully organised eight seasons of the TNPL, with the most recent running in its final stage. 

So let’s take a look at the TNPL's most five-wicket hauls in history. 

Most Five-Wicket Haul in Tamil Nadu Premier League 2024 

K Easwaran and Sonu Yadav both shared the record for the most wicket haul by taking a 1-1 fifer in the 2024 Tamil Nadu Premier League season. Medium pacer Sonu Yadav took a five-wicket haul of 5/30 for Nellai Royal Kings against Salem Spartans in the 2024 TNPL season. While K Easwaran bagged six wickets for 32 runs including a hat-trick, for Trichy Grand Cholas against Dindigul Dragons in 2024.

Most Five-Wicket Haul in Tamil Nadu Premier League history

As of 2025, the TNCA has successfully organised the eight season of the TNPL while ninth running The ninth season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League is taking place from 5 June to 6 July 2025 at multiple venues- SNR College Cricket Ground, SCF Cricket Ground, Indian Cement Company Ground, and NPR College Ground. The knockout round will start on July 1st and conclude on July 6th at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul. 

Before the 2025 Tamil Nadu Premier League reaches its conclusion, let’s discover the most 5-wicket haul achieved by the bowlers in tournament history from 2016 to 2025.

List of Most Five-Wicket Hauls in Tamil Nadu Premier League history (2016 to 2025)

Since its launch in 2016, the Tamil Nadu Premier League has turned into one of the most renowned T20 tournaments, launching talents, both pacers and spinners. To sum up eight TNPL seasons, the current champion, 2024 Dindigul Dragons, is fighting to secure the title, while the most successful team, Chepauk Super Gillies, is aiming for its fifth title in 2025. From the inaugural highest wicket-taker, Anthony Das (16), to TNPL’s most wicket-taker, Abhishek Tanwar (86), the tournament has launched many top bowlers with record-breaking bowling stats, including most wickets, best bowling figure, and hat-trick. But which players have achieved the most five-wicket hauls in TNPL history?

Let’s take a look at the  top 5 bowlers with the most five-wicket hauls in the Tamil Nadu Premier League from 2016 to 2025: 

  1. Ashwath Mukunthan 

Ashwath Mukunthan is the first and only cricketer who has achieved two TNPL five-wicket hauls (2016 & 2018) most in the tournament's history. Right-medium pacer Ashwath Mukunthan bagged his first fifer during his debut, Chepauk Super Gillies taking 5 wickets for 17 runs against VB Thiruvallur Veerans at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in 2016.  By taking this, he became the second player to take a fifer in the TNPL history following Lakshmipathy Balaji. He achieved his second fifer with 5 wickets for 36 runs, for iDream Karaikudi Kaalai against Dindigul Dragons.

  1. Lakshmipathy Balaji

Veteran Lakshmipathy Balaji is the first bowler to take the first-ever 5-wicket haul in TNPL history. In the inaugural season of 2016, Lakshmipathy Balaji scalped 5 wickets for 18 runs for the Albert TUTI Patriots against VB Thiruvallur Veerans at the NPR College Ground in 2016. With his impressive knock of 5 wickets, TUTI Patriots won the match over VB Veerans by 6 wickets, earning him the Player of the Match.       

  1. Sachin Rathi

Sachin Rathi is the third bowler on the list of the most 5-wicket hauls in TNPL history. Promising bowler Sachin Rathi is known for his lower economy rate and building pressure while taking wickets early in the games. In 2025, Sachin Rathi was the first bowler, taking 5 wickets for 17 runs in a match between Nellai Royal Kings vs Salem Spartans at Salem Foundation Cricket Ground. Rathi delivered an impressive spell in the starting overs and dismantled the Spartans by keeping an economy rate very low, 4.25 runs per over. 

  1. Lokesh Raj

Next is Lokesh Raj, who delivered a standout performance, taking 5 wickets for 13 runs for Chepauk Super Gillies, contributing to an 8-run victory against Dindigul Dragons in the 2025 TNPL season. Lokesh Raj is a right-arm medium bowler who bagged his maiden and TNPL’s 15th 5-wicket haul and etched his name in history.

  1. K Easwaran

K Easwaran is the first bowler who achieved the 6-wicket haul mark in the Tamil Nadu Premier League history. In the 2024 TNPL season, K Easwaran took 6 wickets for 32 runs for the Dindigul Dragons on July 6, 2024, at the SCF Cricket Ground in Salem, including a hat-trick, and maintained the impressive economy rate of 6.00.  Throughout the season, Easwaran remained one of the standout bowlers of the Trichy Grand Cholas and finished as one of the highest wicket-takers of 2024 TNPL with 7 wickets from 2 matches.

Ashwath Mukunthan is the first and only bowler who has achieved the most 5-wicket hauls twice, taking 5/17 in 2016 and 5/36 in 2018 in his TNPL career. His second fifer, 5/36 against Dindigul Dragons, is the most expensive 5-wicket haul in TNPL history as well.

R Mithun has the best bowling average in the 2024 Tamil Nadu Premier League. R. Mihun has recorded an average of 8.33 for two matches while scalping three wickets at a 5.00 economy rate.
Narayan Jagadeesan has scored the most runs in the Tamil Nadu Premier League’s history. Narayan Jagadeesan has bagged 2273 runs from 68 matches with an average of 40.58 and a strike rate of 126.84.
