East Delhi Riders' form has been quite strong this season. The team is currently at number 2 in the points table and has won 3 out of its 4 matches. In the last match, they chased a target of 232 and defeated Outer Delhi Warriors by 5 wickets. After losing 2 wickets early in the beginning, Arpit Rana and Anuj Rawat made a powerful partnership of 130 runs. Anuj scored 84 runs and Arpit 79, both changed the entire flow of the match. In the end, Mayank Rawat finished the match by scoring 32 runs in just 12 balls. This kind of comeback shows that the Riders' batting line-up can score runs even under pressure and their middle order is quite dangerous.
The form of South Delhi Superstarz has been exactly opposite to this. The team has not won a single match in the season so far and has lost 3 of its matches. Their batting performance was quite weak against Central Delhi Kings in the last match, the entire team was all out for just 80 runs. Tejasvi Dahiya and Gulzar Sandhu were able to fight a bit but could not play any big innings. They could not make any impact in bowling as well and the match ended in just 6 overs. If SDS has to come back in the season then they will have to strengthen the batting order and the bowlers will have to take wickets in the powerplay. Right now their performance puts them in the last position in the points table.
Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium is a batting paradise in T20 cricket. Stroke play is easy on the pitch here because the ball bounces evenly. Due to small boundaries, there is a rain of fours and sixes here. It is easy to score runs in the initial overs of the match but later the chalky surface becomes slow which helps the spinners.
If we look at the record of IPL 2024, the average has been more than 235 runs in the first innings. Therefore, making a big score by batting first is a good option. But if there is a chance of Dev coming then the chasing team gets an advantage. Pace bowlers take wickets here but it is difficult for medium pacers to save runs. Spinners can change the game by bowling tight.
East Delhi Riders and South Delhi Superstarz have a one-sided record in DPL. So far, there have been 4 matches between the two in which East Delhi Riders have won 3 and one match was washed out due to rain. Last season, their 3 matches were scheduled but only 2 could be held, which included the final. In the final, East Delhi Riders defeated South Delhi and won the trophy. This year also their first match was a rematch of the final where South Delhi again got defeated. South Delhi's performance so far in 2025 has been very weak because they have not won a single match so far and their next match is also against a team that has always defeated them.
Their last head-to-head of this year was also another setback for South Delhi. In the first match South Delhi scored 169 runs where Sarthak Ray (41*) and Abhishek Khandelwal (40*) played successful innings. But East Delhi Riders chased the target on the strength of Anuj Rawat's 55 runs and won the match by 5 wickets. Among the South Delhi bowlers, Divansh Rawat took 3 wickets but Ashish Meena's 2 crucial wickets in the middle overs broke their momentum. Looking at this record, it seems that winning against East Delhi Riders will be a big challenge for South Delhi this year too.
