East Delhi Riders are the defending champions and their attitude also seems to be the same. Last season was explosive and this season started similarly too – winning by 5 wickets against South Delhi. Riders have not lost a single match in the last 5 matches, have won easily 3 times and 2 matches were inconclusive due to rain. Captain Anuj Rawat is in solid form, he finished the match with a calm and composed knock. The top order looks settled and there is depth in the middle order as well. The bowling side is also tight, Ajay Ahlawat and Ashish Meena have taken wickets by creating pressure. The team's combination is balanced and the confidence level is high. This team is answering every match with a mission – to win the trophy again.
The story for West Delhi Lions is the same as it was last season. Even then the team managed to win only 2 matches, and this time too it started with a big 58-run defeat. The batting line-up looks fragile, the top order collapsed under pressure. Only Shivank and Ekansh could show little fight. The bowling department fights a bit, but due to lack of batting the match slips out of hand. The team has not won a single game in the last 5 matches. The team's morale seems to be a bit down and if some quick changes are not made, this season could end just like the old one. Now they need not just a comeback but a strong statement.
Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium is considered a batsman-friendly ground for T20 matches. The pitch here is flat and provides stable bounce, so batsmen hit shots confidently. Short boundaries also make the job easy for the batsman. The average score here in the 2024 season went up to 235, which shows that scoring runs here is easy.
It is a bit tough for bowlers, but if pacers maintain a good line length with the new ball, then movement can be obtained. Spinners, especially leg-spinners, are quite effective in the beach overs. Still, if the pitch supports the batsman more and the score reaches around 190 then there is a chance of winning the match.
So far in the history of Delhi Premier League, whenever East Delhi Riders and West Delhi Lions have come face to face, only one thing has happened – East's complete dominance! There have been two clashes between the two teams, and both times East Delhi Riders have defeated West Delhi Lions. In 2024, Riders won one match by 5 wickets, but the real explosion was their 52-run victory – in which East showed complete control. West Delhi Lions have not yet seen victory against East, and these stats will become a reason for pressure for them. In last season's most recent face-off, East Delhi Riders posted a mountainous total of 222 by batting first - Himmat Singh and Anuj Rawat's explosive half-centuries tilted the match in East's favour. In bowling too, they never let West Delhi Lions settle down - Harshit Rana, Mayank Dagar and Sujal Chaudhary bowled tight spells and took wickets as well. West Delhi Lions did fight, but their attack fell short in front of East's overall gameplan. This time too, if the West wants to win, they will have to change not just the team but their entire mindset, otherwise the East is again ready for another one-sided show.
