The current form of both teams in T20Is is disappointing. They have won one match each in their last five matches. England won a match against India, while West Indies managed to win a single match against Bangladesh. England lost their last match against India by a massive 150 runs. Abhishek Sharma scored a mammoth 135 runs off just 54 balls against them. Brydon Carse took three wickets and Mark Wood took two. Philip Salt was the only one to cross the 20-run mark in that match.
West Indies also lost their last match against Bangladesh by 80 runs. Jaker Ali Anik scored 72 off 41 balls against West Indies. Romario Shepherd collected two wickets and scored 33 runs in that match. Johnson Charles was the only other West Indian to cross the 20-run mark.
The pitch at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street is a bit tricky in T20 matches. Here, fast bowlers get swing and seam at the beginning of the match, and batting is tough. But as the game progresses, the ball comes onto the bat well. The pitch becomes a bit slow in the second innings, where spinners and slower balls help the bowlers. So far, only 7 T20I matches have been played here, in which the average first innings score has been just 131. The team bowling first has more advantage.
England and West Indies have played against each other 35 times in T20I cricket so far. Out of these, England has won 16 matches and West Indies has won 18 matches. One match had no result. There is a very close rivalry between the two. The last time England tour West Indies was in November 2024, when a 5-match T20I series was played. In that series, England won the first 3 matches and sealed the series. But in the 4th match, West Indies scored 221 runs and won by 5 wickets. The 5th match was canceled due to rain
