England Women lost the last T20I against India Women which broke their three match winning streak in T20Is. They have three wins in the last five matches they have played. Before the last match against India Women, England Women defeated West Indies in the three match T20 series. They dominated West Indies in the series winning all the three matches against them at their home soil.
For England Women, their last match was nothing less than a nightmare. After winning the toss, they let India bat first, but their decision went against them. India did not give their bowlers any chance at all. Em Arlott did take the first wicket and restricted Shefali Verma to 20 runs, but after that England's bowling collapsed.
Smriti Mandhana and Harleen Deol together made a big partnership of 94 runs, in which Smriti scored the first century of her T20I career. Lauren Bell did take 3 wickets, but her economy was also high. 205 runs was a total worth defending, but when England came to bat, their entire batting order was shaken.
Only Nat Sciver-Brunt were seen fighting, who made 66 runs. The remaining 9 batsmen could not score more than 12 runs. The team was all out for just 113 and lost by 97 runs. This was their biggest defeat in T20I history. Before this, they had lost to Australia by 93 runs in 2019. England's performance was weak in all three departments - batting, bowling, fielding.
India Women gave an absolutely amazing performance in their last match. England won the toss and allowed India to bat, but the Indian team made full use of the opportunity. Shefali Verma was out early in the beginning but after that Smriti Mandhana and Harleen Deol took over the innings.
Both shared a 94-run partnership in which Smriti scored 100 runs in 64 balls and Harleen played an attacking innings of 43 off 23 balls. India made 205 runs in 20 overs which was their second highest score in T20I. India did an amazing job in bowling too. Debutant Shree Charani took 4 wickets while giving away just 12 runs and shook England's batting line-up. Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav also took 2 wickets each.
England Women were all out at 113 and India won the match by 97 runs. This match was completely in India’s name, they showed complete domination in both batting and bowling. Smriti’s century and Charani’s 4-fer were the turning points of this match.
County Ground, Bristol is a stadium where both batting and bowling get help. So far 6 Women's T20I matches have been held here, in which England has won 5, so this ground has been quite lucky for them. But the pitch is not that easy for the batters. The score of 150 has been crossed only once while batting first, and the biggest chase has also been of just 148. This shows that bowlers also get a lot of help, especially fast bowlers. Spinners do not get that much benefit here.
If we look at ODI matches, the pitch is a little flat, in which batsmen get a chance to score runs, but fast bowlers can change the game in the powerplay. The average first innings score here is around 240 and chasing is a little easier. That is why the team winning the toss prefers to bowl first.
So overall this is a balanced pitch where the ball moves a bit in the beginning, but after spending some time the batsmen can also play well.
England Women have displayed evident superiority over India Women in T20Is, achieving victory in 22 out of the 30 encounters between these two teams. India Women possess strength but struggle to provide consistent performance. They fall short in quality when facing major cricketing nations such as England and Australia. This record features past matches, but lately, the Indian women's team has shown significant improvement and can challenge England Women effectively in this series.
The last T20I between England and India was completely in the hands of India Women. India made 205/5 while batting first, in which Smriti Mandhana’s century and Harleen Deol’s quick 43 runs were the highlights. England's bowlers did try, Lauren Bell also took 3 wickets but their economy rate was quite expensive. While chasing the target, both England's top and middle order failed.
Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt alone scored 66 runs but did not get support from anyone else. England were all out for just 113 and India won the match by a huge margin of 97 runs. This defeat became the biggest defeat for England in T20I history. In this match, debutant Shree Charani made headlines by taking 4 wickets giving 12 runs in 3.5 overs. Overall this match was a perfect team performance for Indian Women while it was like a lost day for England.
