India Champions’ journey in the World Championship of Legends 2025 has been quite disappointing so far. They have managed just 1 point from a no-result in all four of their matches, and are languishing at the bottom of the table. Their batting line-up, which includes names like Yuvraj Singh, Yusuf Pathan, and Ambati Rayudu, is certainly showing some shine – for example, against England, Yusuf made 52(29) and Yuvi 38(27) – but the team is collectively failing to chase the target. Bowling is also not consistent – apart from Harbhajan Singh, no bowler has bowled an impactful spell. If India has to keep the hopes of semi-finals alive, they need not just a win but a dominant, one-sided win – where NRR is boosted. Now it is a matter of pressure – and India’s legends have historically performed under pressure. But now there is less time and the level of performance has to be high. This match is like a final for them – if they get the first batting then they have to make 200+ and early breakthroughs in bowling are a must. The team’s spirit is still alive, but if they don’t win today’s match – and that too by a big margin – then consider the tournament journey over here.
The West Indies Champions are also looking for consistency in this tournament. They have played three matches – only one win and two losses are to their name. The biggest problem is their bowling – they had to face defeat in just 9.3 overs against Australia, and conceded 200 runs against Pakistan. Despite having experienced names like Bravo, Simmons, Gayle, the team struggles in the powerplay and loses wickets in the middle overs. Chadwick Walton showed some resistance against Pakistan, but overall batting effort was scattered. In bowling too, only Devendra Bishoo and D Mohammed show some control, the rest of the bowlers are proving to be expensive.West Indies have destructive players, but teamwork is missing. If their top-order explodes in this match – Gayle, Smith, Bravo – then they can chase any target. But if they want a ticket to the semi-final, just winning will not suffice – they will have to defeat India by a heavy margin. There is match pressure, NRR calculation too, and do or die situations too. If WI unleash its Caribbean flair, then a comeback is possible – but for that, aggression along with discipline is needed.
The pitch at Grace Road, Leicester is considered balanced for T20 matches. Batsmen get rewarded for playing proper cricket shots here. In the last few seasons, the first innings score has increased steadily, and the highest average score was seen in 2024. Now scores around 165-167 have become common on the pitch. Fast bowlers get slight movement from the new ball, but the conditions here are not very helpful for them.
Grace Road has been slightly better for spin bowlers. In the middle overs (7-15), the average and economy of spinners have been better than pace bowlers. Wickets fall more in the middle overs, but there are good chances in the death overs as well. The teams that win the toss have chosen to bowl first in most matches, and their win ratio is also 80%. So if you win the toss, bowling first can be a smart decision.
India Champions and West Indies Champions have clashed twice so far. India Champions have won both the matches. Their first encounter took place in some other tournament and the second clash took place on March 16, 2025 in the final of the International Masters League T20. These two have not yet faced each other in WCL 2025.The final match was played at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur. West Indies Masters scored 148 runs while batting, in which Lendl Simmons scored 57 and Dwayne Smith scored 45 runs. India showed a strong bowling display where Vinay Kumar took 3 wickets and Shahbaz Nadeem took 2 wickets giving away just 12 runs. In the chase Ambati Rayudu batted brilliantly and scored 74 runs and India won the match in just 17.1 overs. This victory also made them the champions of the tournament.
