New Delhi Tigers is a new team in the tournament and they have played only 2 matches so far – won one and lost one. After winning the first match it seemed that the team would build momentum, but in the second match Central Delhi Kings exposed their weakness. The top-order collapsed, they were 28/4 in the powerplay itself and the entire team could only make 124/9. Himmat Singh held on a bit (28 off 31) and Aryan Dalal showed some firepower, but overall the batting performance was quite disappointing. Bowling was also not at the expected level. Only Pankaj Jaswal took one wicket, rest of the bowlers kept leaking in economy. Prince Yadav and Deepak Punia gave runs at 10+ economy. Fielding was also average, which CDK took full advantage of. Tigers need to work on top-order stability, tight bowling and match awareness if they want to win in future. The team has talent, but execution and pressure handling need to improve.
East Delhi Riders have also played only two matches in the season – won one and lost the other. But even though they lost their last match, their batting performance was outstanding. Captain Anuj Rawat played a match-winning intent innings of 73* runs and Rohan Rathi rocketed the scoreboard by scoring 42 runs in just 10 balls. Arpit Rana and Mayank Rawat also provided a solid base in the middle overs. The entire team set a huge target of 208 – which would have been enough in normal matches. But bowling became their biggest problem. Despite defending 208, West Delhi Lions chased the target in just 17.3 overs. Krish Yadav and Ayush Doseja dismissed their bowlers. Ajay Ahlawat did take 2 wickets but apart from him no other bowler looked impactful. If Riders have to bring consistency then they will have to make the bowling unit tighter and more disciplined. Batting is enough to win the match, but the bowlers will also have to take responsibility for making the match.
When a T20 match is played at Arun Jaitley Stadium Delhi, the fun is different. The pitch is absolutely batting-friendly and the boundaries are also small. So the ball does not go in the air, it goes straight out of the boundary. Batsmen enjoy it to the fullest here. But yes, as the match progresses, the pitch slows down a bit and spinners come into the game.
The toss is also important. Sometimes the wicket comes in the second innings, that is why teams prefer to take more bowling first. Watch the recent matches of IPL, scores of 230+ are also being chased. Pacers get a little help in the beginning, but the magic of spin starts working in the middle of the match.
There has been no match between New Delhi Tigers and East Delhi Riders so far, so this will be their first head-to-head encounter. Tigers are a new team making their debut this season, whereas East Delhi Riders are already an established and experienced side. New Delhi Tigers have given a mixed performance in their 2 matches so far – one win, one loss. Their batting order is struggling a bit right now, but there is hope from the performance of captain Himmat Singh and all-rounders like Aryan Dalal. In the first head-to-head, Tigers will have the challenge of establishing their identity against a champion team. East Delhi Riders are the defending champions of last season and their record has been impressive. In 2024, they won 7 out of 10 matches and won the DPL trophy by defeating South Delhi Superstars by 3 runs in the final. They have momentum this season too – with 3 wins and 2 no results, they are looking confident. Mayank Rawat's batting, consistent bowling of bowlers like Simarjeet Singh and Harsh Tyagi have given balance to the team. This match will not be just a matter of points for them but an opportunity to continue their dominance.
