Oval Invincibles Women played their first match against London Spirit Women where they lost by 17 runs. Marizanne Kapp and Tash Farrant took 2 wickets each in bowling but their team could not stop the target of 176. Grace Harris scored 89 runs in just 42 balls which completely changed the flow of the game. When it was time for batting, Meg Lanning played a brilliant innings of 85 runs and Kapp also scored 33 runs but the team could only reach 159/4. After the defeat, Oval Invincibles is in the second last position in the table. The top players of the team are in form but they need to improve a bit in bowling and death overs.
Manchester Originals Women's start was also weak. Their batting flopped in the first match against Southern Brave Women. Only Seren Smale scored 34* runs while the rest were all out early. The team was all out for just 95 runs. In bowling, Sophie Ecclestone took 2 wickets and Kerr-Dottin took one wicket each. But the score was small so Brave chased it comfortably. Laura Wolvaardt and Wyatt did not let their bowling come under pressure. Manchester is now at the third position from the bottom in the table. The team will have to improve its middle order and powerplay batting.
The pitch at Kennington Oval, London is considered batting friendly for The Hundred matches. The pitch is flat and offers both pace and bounce, so batsmen enjoy hitting shots. Scores between 165 and 175 are common in The Hundred matches. The outfield is also fast which makes boundaries easier.
In the beginning, the pacers may get a little help, especially through seam movement with the new ball. But as the match progresses, the pitch slows down and spinners become important in the middle overs. Some boundaries of the ground are long but the square side is short where sixes are easily hit with timing. This ground is generally considered to be chasing friendly, meaning the team batting second gets a little edge.
The record of Oval Invincibles Women against Manchester Originals Women has been completely one-sided so far. There have been a total of 4 matches between the two and Oval Invincibles have won every time. Manchester has not been able to defeat them even once. Last season 2024 also when these teams clashed, the result came with the same old story. Oval won that match by 7 wickets and then another defeat was added for Manchester. In that match, Manchester made a decent score of 125/4 while batting first in which Laura Wolvaardt scored 38 and Sophie Ecclestone scored a quick 26* runs. But their total was not enough. Oval Invincibles made the chase very smooth. Chamari Athapaththu scored 33 runs and Paige Scholfield finished the game by playing a match-winning innings of 48* in just 27 balls. In bowling, Amanda Wellington helped stop Manchester by taking 2 wickets. This match once again showed that the dominance of Oval Invincibles is still alive and the search for victory is still on for Manchester Originals.
