The Whiptail Smashers season has been a struggle so far. The team is currently in the last position of the table, having won only 2 out of 6 matches. Their batting order broke even in the last match as well. Captain Kimani Melius was out in the first over without scoring. 3 wickets fell for just 7 runs.
The middle and lower order showed a little fight in which Lee John made 23 and Leon Alexander made 22 runs. But the total stopped at just 91. Lee John and Tyrel Chicot took 2-2 wickets with the ball but could not defend the low score. Amazonian Warriors won the match by 5 wickets. Whiptail players are getting spoiled under pressure and to win they will have to handle the top order.
Bamboo Blasters are doing a little better. With 3 wins in 6 matches they are in the middle of the table. They took the last match to Super Over. Captain Stephen Naitram played a brilliant innings of 63 runs but apart from him no other batsman could survive. The team could score only 97 runs.
Bowling made a tremendous comeback and tied the match. But they could score only 1 run in the Super Over. Xavier Gabriel won the match by dismissing both their main batsmen. Blasters have talent, but when the team is under pressure it collapses. If Naitram had got a little more support, then the match could have been theirs.
The pitch of Daren Sammy Stadium is balanced. Batsmen get a good surface to hit shots. Fast bowlers get a little swing in the middle overs which is quite useful. The team winning the toss mostly bowls first. The average first innings score here is around 104, which shows that the pitch is neither easy nor difficult. The weather can be a little cloudy but the chances of rain are less.
Whiptail Smashers and Bamboo Blasters have played just one match this season. They have not played against each other before this season. The last match was their first meeting and Whiptail Smashers won that match by just 4 runs. Whiptail Smashers batted first in that match and scored 137 runs with the loss of 4 wickets. Jard Goodman scored 50 runs to take his team out of trouble. While Tyrel Chicot finished things off in style to add to the total of his team.
In bowling Khan Elcock took two wickets. Bamboo Blasters started well but lost the match in thrilling style. The match goes till the last ball of the match. Noelle Leo and Stephen Naitram gave their team a solid start but cricket is a game of small moments which adds up to make a larger moment or result. This match’s result was not in favour of Bamboo but they battled till their last breath trying to win the match. Not much was there to discuss about Whiptail Smashers’ bowling as Bamboo just lost one wicket in that match while the other one was a run-out.
