Punjab Kings defeated Gujarat Titans by 11 runs. Arshdeep Singh came on to bowl the final over with 27 runs to defend. He managed to get fingertips to a return hit by Rutherford as the ball went on to hit the stumps running out Rahul Tewatia at the bowler’s end. More than the wicket it was the dot ball which proved to be pretty crucial.
The left-arm pacer was struck for a six by Rutherford on the very next delivery but managed to bowl a wide yorker on the third ball. He took his revenge on the West Indies’ batter by dismissing him to pick up his second wicket of the match.
Shreyas Iyer had a great start to his captaincy stint with the Punjab Kings as he recorded a victory in his first match. The PBKS became the first team in the ongoing IPL season to successfully defend a target in an evening game. Sunrisers Hyderabad had achieved it against Rajasthan Royals in an afternoon game.

Gujarat Titans always had a mountain to climb with the target of 244 runs. Even after managing to score 18 runs in the 19th over, they will need a miraculous finish in the last over to win the match. Can Rahul Tewatia provide another exciting finish against Punjab?
Punjab Kings are at 199/3 after 17 overs. Need 45 runs in 12 balls. Rutherford: 27* (20)
After a frustrating three overs for the Titans, they finally seem to get going in the 18th over. Marco Jansen was hit for a couple of fours by the two batters. However, the left-arm pacer from South Africa came back strongly to dismiss, Buttler with the last ball of the over.

Vijaykumar Vyshak and Marco Jansen bowled a couple of quiet overs before the 17th over went for five runs. Vyshak started the over with a couple of wides. However, he came strongly and made a great recovery. The over ended up taking as much time as possibly two overs would have taken. Both the bowler and the batter took three reviews for wide calls as well as a no-ball.
The 15th and 16th overs had gone for only 13 runs. Vyshak had bowled his first over with great control and had been targeting the outside off the tramline. He has consistently hit his mark even though some of those deliveries ended up being wides.
Punjab Kings are at 174/2 after 15 overs. Need 70 runs in 30 balls. Buttler: 40* (24), Rutherford: 20* (11)
Gujarat Titans have crawled their way back into this game. With wickets in hand the game hangs in the balance going into the last five overs. With Arshdeep and Rabada having only one over left, Shreyas would need to find two overs from impact player, Vijaykumar Vyshak. GT needs a couple of big overs to put the visitors under pressure.
Punjab Kings are at 169/2 after 14 overs. Need 75 runs in 36 balls. Buttler: 38* (22), Rutherford: 18* (7)

Sai Sudharsan reached his half-century and is looking to attack. Jos Buttler on the other hand too has joined the party after starting a bit slowly. The duo struck a six each in the 11th over against Maxwell as he came back for a fresh spell. Punjab’s premier spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal too has not been given a chance to settle. He has gone for 34 runs in the first three overs he has bowled.
Even though the target remains to be pretty far from their reach, the GT dressing room would feel pretty happy seeing how these two are batting. Sai started to cramp up after hitting a six against Chahal in the 12th over. The hosts and their fans would want the left-handed batter to continue and battle it out in the middle.
Punjab Kings are at 93/1 after 9 overs. Need 151 runs in 66 balls. Sai: 42* (28), Buttler: 14* (12)

The Gujarat Titans always were behind the eight-ball after conceding 243 runs in the first innings. However, their reply with the bat has been toothless to say the least. To maintain a left-right combination at the top of the order the hosts demoted Buttler to number three. A batter of his pedigree should have ideally walked out to open the innings with Gill.
Punjab Kings are at 61/1 after 6 overs. Need 183 runs in 14 overs. Sai: 25* (21), Buttler: 0* (1)

In his first two overs while defending 244 runs, Arshdeep conceded only seven runs.
Punjab Kings are at 15/0 after 2 overs. Need 229 runs in 18 overs. Sai: 14* (10), Gill: 1* (2)
The Gujarat Titans have been restricted in the first two overs by Arshdeep Singh and Azmatullah Omarzai. The fast-bowlers have bowled with great control and maintained their precision over lines and lengths. Barring a boundary each in the two overs, the two pacers have been right on the money and have not offered to much width to Gill and Sai.
Punjab Kings are at 5/0 after 1 over. Need 239 runs in 19 overs. Sai: 5* (6), Gill: 0* (0)
It is Sai Sudharsan who has walked out to open the batting with skipper, Shubman Gill. It might be maintain a left-right combination at the top of the order. Has GT messed up by not sending Jos the Boss up the order?
The Punjab Kings powered by a splendid knock by skipper, Shreyas Iyer scored 97 runs in the first innings. Even though the right-handed batter missed out on a century, his knock helped PBKS end up with a great total. Priyansh Arya at the top of the order provided a quick start by playing a fiery 47-run knock. Shreyas Iyers looks in great touch and making a century will not be too far-fetched. The PBKS skipper has taken the attack against Prasidh Krishna. He smashed six, four, six, six on consecutive deliveries. The last ball of the over too looked like it would go the distance and clear the boundary at long-on. However, the fielder stationed there managed to throw the in the field of playing before landing on the boundary cushions.

Punjab Kings are at 105/4 after 11 overs. Shreyas: 29* (17), Stoinis: 0* (2)
Sai Kishore has been the best bowler on display for the hosts. The left-arm off-spinner started his spell with a two-run over. However, in his following over, Kishore finally got his reward. He dismissed Azmatullah Omarzai and Glenn Maxwell on successive deliveries to completely derail PBKS’ momentum. Maxwell on his fairytale return to the Punjab side registered a golden duck. Azmatullah Omarzai has struck a few boundaries to get going against his former franchise. The Kings are looking on par to get a score upwards of 230 runs. Gill needs to make some changes in the bowling attack before it gets too late for his team.

Shreyas was the batter in teh question. It was another expensive over as the Kings tightened their grasp after the powerplay.
Punjab Kings are at 63/1 after 5 overs. Priyansh: 37* (17), Shreyas: 14* (5)
Punjab Kings after being sent in to bat by Shubman Gill are off to a flier. Priyansh Arya making his debut in the IPL has already struck five fours and two sixes. He is providing a great supporting hand to skipper, Shreyas who has started his innings on the fifth gear.

Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings will clash against each other in the fifth match of the 18th season of the Indian Premier League. The two teams have a lot to prove after disappointing performance in the previous season. The hosts, GT, have seemed to fill in their squad with some great players and have formed a core of five-six players who can be match-winners in their roles. The opening duo of Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler is unmatched in terms of consistency. While a new-ball bowling attack featuring Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada is as good as it can get. In the middle overs, they will have Rashid Khan to weave his magic.
For Punjab the mega auction helped them revamp their squad after they retained only two players. Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh were the two retentions. However, they had a blast at the auction as they acquired Shreyas Iyer as their skipper. Arshdeep Singh was bought back. The all-rounder department features some of the best players including the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Azmatullah Omarzai, Marco Jansen, and Aaron Hardie. The spin bowling would feature IPL’s most successful wicket-taker, Yuzvendra Chahal and Harpreet Brar.
There are some great players in the two squads as they will battle it out at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, most of them are playing for their teams for the first time and would be raring to make a mark on the GT vs PBKS head-to-head record.
