Kolkata Knight Riders after receiving a drubbing at the hand of Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium provided a clinical performance at home. They registered an emphatic victory by 80 runs. Venkatesh Iyer and Angkrish Raghuvanshi struck fifties in the first innings. It was a great all-round bowling performance with all five bowlers picking up a wicket each. Varun Chakravarthy and Vaibhav Arora picked up three wickets each to break down the explosive SRH batting unit. 

10:46 PM: Vaibhav provides the knockout blow

Vaibhav Arora has been the best bowler on display by a mile across both teams. The right-arm pacer had picked up Travis Head and Ishan Kishan in the powerplay. Returning to bowl his final over, the Indian pacer dismissed Heinrich Klaasen to shut out the barest of chances SRH had to win this game.

10:38 PM: Klaasen gets going with a couple of sixes

Sunil Narine bowling his final over of the night was greeted with two sixes over deep mid-wicket by Heinrich Klaasen. He could have been dismissed on the third delivery of the ball as there was an edge. However, Narine did not hear anything which meant that Rahane opted against taking the review. 

10:35 PM: Harshit bowls a quiet over

Harshit Rana bowled a quiet over coming back for a fresh spell. The right-arm pacer conceded only seven runs in the 13th over as the game continued to get away from SRH. 

10:26 PM: Not Aniket’s night at Eden Gardens

Aniket Verma failed at the Eden Gardens. The young batter had played a fantastic knock in the previous game against Delhi Capitals when the rest of the SRH batters had failed. He was in the middle of a similar situation tonight but could score only six runs in six balls before being dismissed by Varun Chakravarthy.

SRH lost their fifth wicket as Sunil Narine picked up his first wicket of the match. It looks like the pitch curator at Eden Gardens finally listened to Ajinkya Rahane’s wish and made a slow track.

Andre Russell has bowled only a few overs in the season. Bowling his first over at the Eden Gardens, the Jamaican all-rounder picked up his first wicket of the match with only his fourth ball. He dismissed Nitish Kumar Reddy as SRH sunk further into troubled waters.

The explosive top-order of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan have been blown away. Vaibhav Arora, the impact sub for KKR has claimed two wickets. SRH on the other hand have lost their top three batters in the first three overs. The right-arm pacer bowled a wicket-maiden in the third over.

Harshit Rana claimed the second wicket of the innings. After taking a great catch to dismiss Head, the right-arm pacer dismissed Abhishek Sharma in the second over.
 

The top-order of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan is unarguably the most dangerous among the 10 sides. The three left-handers can take the game away from the opposition in the space of only a few balls. However, chasing a score of 201, the visitors have been put in a spot of bother.

It was the clash between the two impact players. Vaibhav Arora replaced Angkrish Raghuvanshi. The pacer was smashed for a four on the first ball of the second innings. He came back strongly and dismissed the dangerous man, Travis Head. Harshit Rana completed a splendid catch at mid-off running back.

9:12 PM: SRH needs 201 to win 
 

Thanks to a flourishing knock from Venkatesh Iyer in the death overs, Kolkata Knight Riders end up with a score of 200 runs. The left-handed batter scored 60 runs in only 29 deliveries to register his first fifty of the season. Earlier in the innings, Angkrish Raghuvanshi too made a half-century, while Ajinkya Rahane played a captain’s knock.

Vice-captain, Venkatesh Iyer struck his first half-century of the season in only 25 balls. After being paid ₹23.75 crores in the auction the southpaw was under a great deal of pressure before coming into this game. He has struck six fours and two sixes to reach his first fifty of the season. 

8:55 PM: Can KKR get to 180?

Both Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh seemed to have found the middle of their bat. The last two overs have gone for 27 runs. Rinku smashed three fours on the trot against Harshal Patel in the 17th over to bring some momentum to this innings. 

8:44 PM: First boundary in almost 20 balls

The wickets of Rahane and Raguvanshi had put the brakes on the scoring rate for the Knight Riders. Both Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh were under some pressure coming into this game with very few runs under their belt. While the two left-handers have taken their time to settle down, the vice-captain struck a six after 19 deliveries to exert some pressure on the bowling side as well. 

8:39 PM: Venky and Rinku continue to struggle

The struggle for Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh continues as the two southpaws fail to even maintain a strike rate of 100. The two left-handed batters are natural strokemakers but have only made eight runs in 12 balls.

Youngster, Angkrish Raghuvanshi has continued to shine for the Knight Riders. The 20-year-old struck his second half-century in the Indian Premier League. It was a great knock from the youngster which was cut short by SRH’s debutant, Kamindu Mendis. Harshal Patel took a great catch running in from the third-man region to dismiss Raghuvanshi. 

8:24 PM: Zeeshan breaks the third-wicket stand

Zeeshan Ansari had bowled an expensive 11th over. The leg-spinner was smashed for a six and a four by Angkrish Raghuvanshi in the over. However, he made a strong comeback in the over and dismissed Rahane on the final ball of the over.

8:20 PM: SRH pulls things back at the halfway stage

Zeeshan Ansari and Pat Cummins bowled the ninth and 10th over and managed to keep the duo of Rahane and Raghuvanshi quiet. The two overs went for only 13 runs. The two overs would have been more impactful for the visitors had the KKR skipper not struck his fourth six of the match on the final ball of the 10th over. 

8:12 PM: Rahane-Raghuvanshi put up a fifty-run stand

Kolkata Knight Riders have got their innings rolling with a couple of expensive overs. Both Raghuvanshi and Rahane are looking set to reach their respective fifties.

The duo of Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi is the proper example of why the IPL is one of the best tournaments in the world. On one end, Rahane has all the experience in the world, while 20-year-old, Raghuvanshi is still learning the tricks and mastering his art. 
 

After losing both of their openers, KKR was struggling with the scoreboard reading 16 for the loss of two wickets. However, the two batters from Mumbai have put up a useful stand for the third wicket worth 45 runs.

Ajinkya Rahane is looking in great touch. The veteran right-handed batter is playing a crucial knock to bail his team out of troubling waters. After an abysmal performance with the bat in hand against Mumbai Indians, the KKR batting unit was under extreme pressure. Even after losing both their openers early today, Rahane has made sure that the hosts have been the dominant side in the powerplay. 

7:55 PM: Rahane smashes his second six of the night

Mohammed Shami bowled his third over in the powerplay which went for 12 runs. He started the over on a positive note conceding only one run off the first three deliveries. However, KKR skipper, Ajinkya Rahane deployed a sweep shot to collect his second sixer of the match.

It is only natural that the hosts after losing both of its openers in the first three overs have started cautiously. The track at Eden Gardens too seemed a bit slower than usual. However, a pace-on delivery from Pat Cummins was struck for a six by his opposite number in the fourth over.

Mohammed Shami was rewarded on his return to the Eden Gardens. The Indian pacer after struggling to control his line and length in the first over, nailed a yorker to Sunil Narine in his second over. The left-handed batter edged it behind to Heinrich Klaasen who completed a pretty decent catch. 

7:40 PM: Cummins strikes! Picks up the first wicket

Former KKR man, Pat Cummins took the new ball and came on to bowl in the second over. He was welcomed with a six by Sunil Narine before bowling a few dot balls. In the same over, the SRH skipper dismissed Quinton de Kock as the wicketkeeper looked to play a pull shot. However, he could not nail the shot and found the fielder, Zeeshan Ansari stationed at deep mid-wicket. 

7:35 PM: Shami finds some movement in the air

Mohammed Shami returning to his home ground struggled to maintain control with the swing in the air. Shami started the over with a wide down leg and a boundary off leg-byes. However, the veteran pacer made a nice comeback in the rest of the over and was right on the money on the remaining deliveries.
