There were questions as to what would happen if the GT top order was dismissed cheaply. The questions were answered tonight as the Gujarat Titans chased down a score of 155 runs at the Wankhede Stadium. There was a stoppage at the end of 14 overs with rain interrupting the match. Gujarat Titans were ahead of the DLS par score at the time. However, once the players came back to the field, the MI bowlers staged a comeback. In the next four overs, Jasprit Bumrah picked up a couple of wickets while Trent Boult and Ashwani Kumar claimed a wicket each. The rain made its final appearance at the end of the 18th over, at which point GT were four runs behind. The players were back on the field half an hour past midnight, with the visitors requiring 15 runs off six balls. Mumbai Indians were penalised for slow over rate as well, which meant only four fielders were allowed the 30-yard circle.
Rahul Tewatia hit a four off the first ball down the ground. He nudged the next ball around for a single, giving Gerald Coetzee the strike. The South African pacer, playing against his former franchise, smashed a huge six over the long-off boundary. Deepak Chahar, bowling the final over, overstepped on the fourth ball, handing GT another win in the season on the final ball of the game.
Gujarat Titans are at 125/5 after 17 overs. Need 31 runs in 18 balls. Tewatia: 3* (3), Rashid: 2* (2)
Jasprit Bumrah finishes out his spell with another wicket. The pacer was stopped a couple of times in his run-up by Shahrukh Khan. He responded with a wicket off the fourth ball of the over. Only seven runs came off his six balls. The last three overs could be bowled by Hardik, Deepak, and Ashwani. Rahul Tewatia is still at the crease and has enough experience to win these kinds of games.
Gujarat Titans are at 118/4 after 16 overs. Need 38 runs in 24 balls. Shahrukh: 2* (3), Tewatia: 2* (2)
Trent Boult bowled his final over of the innings. The left-arm pacer picked up his second wicket of the match, dismissing the dangerous-looking Sherfane Rutherford. The two batters who were at the crease before the rain interruption are now back in the dressing room. Suddenly, GT find themselves in a great deal of trouble.
Gujarat Titans are at 113/3 after 15 overs. Need 43 runs in 30 balls. Rutherford: 27* (13), Shahrukh: 0* (1)
The players are back on the field. The equation still remains in favour of the visitors. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya turned to his ace bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, to bowl the 15th over. The right-arm pacer was smashed for a four on the second ball of the over. However, like he has done for India and this franchise, he provided a crucial breakthrough dismissing Gill with a nip-backer.
Gujarat Titans are at 107/2 after 14 overs. Need 49 runs in 36 balls. Gill: 38* (42), Rutherford: 26* (12)
The rain has once again started to get heavy, and Gujarat Titans, thanks to some big hits from Sherfane Rutherford in the last over and a half, find themselves ahead of the DLS par score by eight runs.
Gujarat Titans are at 94/2 after 13 overs. Need 62 runs in 42 balls. Gill: 36* (40), Rutherford: 15* (8)
Like Sai Kishore has been the go-to bowler for Gill when a right-hander is at the crease, Will Jacks has been the same for Hardik Panyda against left-handed batters. The off-spinner coming into the attack in the 13th over started his spell with three dot balls. Courtesy of an inside edge, Sherfane Rutherford got his first boundary. On the very next ball, the West Indian batter struck an inside-out shot for another four before hitting a six to end the over.
Gujarat Titans are at 79/2 after 12 overs. Need 77 runs in 48 balls. Gill: 36* (40), Rutherford: 1* (2)
Every couple of overs, rain has been getting heavier and lighter. Both teams would be in the game due to this. Tilak Varma was presented with an opportunity to send the opposition skipper back to the pavilion, however, he shelved a pretty simple catch. On the very next delivery, Jos Buttler was caught behind thanks to an inside edge. Ashwani Kumar, coming off a concussion sub, has created a huge impact in the clash.
Gujarat Titans are at 68/1 after 10 overs. Need 88 runs in 60 balls. Gill: 28* (34), Buttler: 28* (23)
Ashwani Kumar has replaced Corbin Bosch as a concussion sub. Bosch was hit on the helmet on the last over of the first innings. The rain is now getting heavier than before. Gujarat Titans are ahead of the DLS par score by one run and would want to avoid losing a wicket now, as it could take the par score higher.
Gujarat Titans are at 58/1 after 8 overs. Need 98 runs in 72 balls. Gill: 22* (28), Buttler: 24* (17)
The last couple of overs have been brilliant for the Titans. Buttler, after hitting a couple of fours against Deepak in the seventh over, struck a four on the first ball he faced from Hardik Pandya. Shubman Gill, on the other hand, had been pretty defensive in his approach. However, a couple of free hits from Pandya allowed Gill to open his arm to smoke a six over deep extra cover. 29 runs have been scored in the two overs as GT start to climb back into their chase. For the first time in this innings, GT find themselves ahead of the DLS par score. Pandya bowled three wides and two no-balls in his first over, which lasted for 11 balls.
Gujarat Titans are at 40/1 after 7 overs. Need 116 runs in 78 balls. Gill: 14* (23), Buttler: 19* (14)
Deepak Chahar came on to bowl his second over right after the power play. The asking rate is now close to nine runs per over, and the Titans need to step on the accelerator pedal. Jos Buttler smashed a couple of fours in the seventh over.
Gujarat Titans are at 29/1 after 6 overs. Need 127 runs in 14 overs. Gill: 12* (21), Buttler: 10* (10)
The rain is getting a bit heavy, and the Titans, thanks to some incredible bowling and timid shot making, are behind the DLS par score. The par score at the end of the power play is 40, 11 runs more than what GT finds themselves at.
Gujarat Titans are at 21/1 after 4 overs. Need 135 runs in 15 overs. Gill: 11* (20), Buttler: 3* (5)
Shubman Gill has weathered the two overs from Jasprit Bumrah. While the right-arm pacer has gone for only six runs in his two overs, GT would know that they would face much easier bowlers.
Gujarat Titans are at 19/1 after 4 overs. Need 137 runs in 16 overs. Gill: 9* (14), Buttler: 3* (5)
Thanks to some short bowling in the last over and a half by the MI bowlers, the GT batters are gaining some confidence. The swing in the air that was pretty evident for the first 15-odd balls is now nowhere to be seen. Both Gill and Buttler have started their knocks pretty slowly, but would back themselves to make up for the slow start.
Gujarat Titans are at 13/1 after 3 overs. Need 143 runs in 17 overs. Gill: 4* (11), Buttler: 2* (2)
Hardik Pandya does not wait much longer to introduce Jasprit Bumrah into the attack. It is a well-known fact that the top three batters from the Titans are the most dangerous. In an attempt to get another wicket in the power play, Bumrah was unleashed against Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler.
Gujarat Titans are at 9/1 after 2 overs. Need 147 runs in 18 overs. Gill: 2* (6), Buttler: 1* (1)
Trent Boult has done what seemed pretty impossible in the season. The left-arm pacer has dismissed Sai Sudharsan for a score of only five runs. It was a perfect outswinger from the Kiwi which caught the outside edge of Sudharsan’s bat. Boult has somehow extracted more swing than Chahar did in the first over.
Gujarat Titans are at 6/0 after 1 over. Need 150 runs in 19 overs. Sudharsan: 5* (3), Gill: 0* (3)
Sai Sudharsan was beaten with an out-swing delivery to begin the innings. However, the left-handed batter showcased his authority with a cover drive on the very next delivery. Deepak Chahar, bowling the first over, landed most of the deliveries on the seam and got the ball moving in the air.
It was an innings of multiple halves. In the first six overs, the bowlers were on top of the Mumbai Indians, but with the lack of support from their fielders had only two wickets to show for their performance. In the next few overs, Suryakumar Yadav and Will Jacks put on a great hard-hitting stand and it looked like they would take the game away from the Titans.
However, the bowlers made a great comeback in the clash with Sai Kishore breaking the stand in the 11th over. MI lost a wicket each in every over from the 11th to the 14th. While it looked like the hosts would get a score of more than 200 at one point, they were restricted to a score of only 155 runs.
Mumbai Indians are at 125/7 after 17 overs. Bosch: 5* (11), Chahar: 1* (2)
GT bowlers are having a field day at Wankhede Stadium in the last few overs. MI, on the other hand, have slipped from 97-2 to 123-7. Prasidh Krishna, after applying the pressure in his previous over, got his rewards in the form of Naman Dhir’s wicket.
Mumbai Indians are at 123/6 after 16 overs. Naman: 7* (8), Bosch: 4* (9)
The hosts find themselves in deep trouble at the Wankhede Stadium. The run rate, which was pretty healthy at the end of 10 overs, is now lower than eight runs per over. MI would need a strong finish from their two finishers, like they provided against Lucknow Super Giants at the same venue a few days ago.
Mumbai Indians are at 116/6 after 15 overs. Naman: 2* (6), Bosch: 2* (5)
Prasidh Krishna, after bowling an expensive first over, bounced back in great style. The right-arm pacer gave away only a couple of runs in the 15th over.
Mumbai Indians are at 114/6 after 14 overs. Naman: 2* (4), Bosch: 1* (1)
Gerald Coetzee came into the attack to bowl his first over. The right-arm pacer, playing against his former franchise, struck in his very first over as he dismissed Tilak Varma. It is the fourth wicket the hosts have lost in the last four overs.
Mumbai Indians are at 111/5 after 13 overs. Tilak: 6* (5), Naman: 1* (1)
The visitors have turned this clash around in the last three overs. The spinners are getting GT back into this game and have picked up three wickets in as many overs. Sai Kishore induced a top edge from Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill, at first slip, running back took a great catch. It was another right-handed batter to be dismissed by Kishore.
Mumbai Indians are at 105/4 after 12 overs. Tilak: 2* (2), Pandya: 1* (1)
Rashid Khan got his first wicket dismissing Will Jacks. Both set batters have now gone back to the dressing room. However, in the over, GT burnt their second and final review as well. The last two overs have resulted in a wicket each, and the visitors can now apply the brakes.
Mumbai Indians are at 99/3 after 11 overs. Jacks: 53* (31), Tilak: 1* (1)
Finally, Gujarat Titans held onto a catch, and they will see the back of Suryakumar Yadav. The tactic to bowl Sai Kishore against the right-handed batters worked for Gill, with the left-arm spinner picking up his first wicket in the 11th over. Meanwhile, Will Jacks reached his half-century with a six in 29 balls.
Mumbai Indians are at 89/2 after 10 overs. Jacks: 45* (28), Suryakumar: 34* (22)
Will Jacks is nearing a half–century. The English batter, in spite of not reading every delivery correctly from the spinners, has still managed to stay at the crease. In the 10th over, both MI batters survived a close call against Rashid Khan even after reviews from GT.
Mumbai Indians are at 66/2 after 7 overs. Jacks: 38* (21), Suryakumar: 18* (11)
Sai Kishore, after not being used in the last few games to his full potential with the ball in hand, has been brought into the attack in the seventh over. Shubman Gill brought the left-arm spinner to tackle the two right-handed batters in the middle. Barring a six on the last ball, Kishore was pretty accurate in the over.
Mumbai Indians are at 56/2 after 6 overs. Jacks: 30* (17), Suryakumar: 16* (9)
Some sloppy fielding from the Gujarat Titans has meant that both MI batters have been given multiple chances in their innings. The last over of the power play also presented an opportunity to dismiss Will Jacks, but Mohammed Siraj at mid-wicket dropped a simple catch.
Mumbai Indians are at 43/2 after 5 overs. Jacks: 17* (12), Suryakumar: 16* (8)
Prasidh Krishna has bowled an unusually expensive over. The right-arm pacer gave away 16 runs in his first over, but unfortunately, another catch was dropped by GT in the same over. Sai Kishore was the guilty fielder dropping Suryakumar Yadav.
Mumbai Indians are at 27/2 after 4 overs. Jacks: 16* (11), Suryakumar: 1* (3)
Arshad Khan has created a huge impact on his return to the GT side. The left-arm pacer, bowling his second over, dismissed Rohit Sharma for a low score. Suryakumar Yadav has walked in to bat pretty early in the innings.
Mumbai Indians are at 25/1 after 3 overs. Rohit: 7* (7), Jacks: 16* (9)
Will Jacks is making the Gujarat Titans pay for their mistake of dropping his catch in the first over. The English batter welcomed Siraj into his second over with a six and a four off the first two deliveries. Rohit Sharma struck his first boundary on the fifth ball of the over.
Mumbai Indians are at 10/1 after 2 overs. Rohit: 3* (5), Jacks: 5* (5)
Arshad Khan, coming into the team in place of Washington Sundar, bowled a quiet over, sharing the new ball. Only four runs came off the over.
Mumbai Indians are at 6/1 after 1 over. Rohit: 0* (0), Jacks: 4* (4)
Mohammed Siraj, like the reverse fixture between the two times, has struck once again early into the innings. The right-arm pacer dismissed Ryan Rickelton on the second ball thanks to a great catch by Sai Sudharsan. Meanwhile, a few balls later, the same fielder dropped a catch to dismiss Will Jacks. To make matters worse, the Englishman struck a four on the very next ball.
GT won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Some of the best players of this season will be on display with the Mumbai Indians hosting the Gujarat Titans. Unarguably, the GT top order has been the best this season, and they will face the best pace attack early on in the batting innings featuring Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, and Jasprit Bumrah.
Kagiso Rabada, having served his one-month ban for using a recreational drug, will be available for selection in the GT camp. The right-arm pacer could replace his compatriot, Gerald Coetzee, who played his first game for the franchise against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
In the MI camp, Mitchell Santner, having missed the last couple of games, is available for selection as confirmed by Mahela Jayawardene. If he gets back into the playing XII it could come at the expense of Corbin Bosch.
