Punjab Kings put on an all-around show to register an emphatic win over the Super Giants. The Shreyas Iyer-led side, playing their first game at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, got off to a winning start at the venue.
Lucknow Super Giants are at 158/6 after 17 overs. Need 79 runs in 18 balls. Badoni: 48* (30), Avesh: 4* (2)
Marco Jansen nonchalantly caught a ball in his follow through which was struck pretty hard by Abdul Samad. The left-arm pacer came on to bowl his final over and picked up his first wicket of the match.
Lucknow Super Giants are at 149/5 after 16 overs. Need 88 runs in 24 balls. Badoni: 46* (29), Samad: 44* (22)
Arshdeep Singh came on to bowl his final over after a couple of expensive overs from his teammates. While the left-arm pacer was not able to break the partnership between Badoni and Samad, he did put a stop to the rate of scoring. No boundary was scored in the over as he conceded only six runs in the six balls.
Lucknow Super Giants are at 126/5 after 14 overs. Need 111 runs in 36 balls. Badoni: 40* (23), Samad: 29* (16)
Vijaykumar Vyshak’s night has gone from bad to worse. He was responsible for some misfields earlier in the innings before he came on to bowl. With the ball in hand, the right-arm seamer has been a tad bit expensive, not that it would change the overall result of the game.
Lucknow Super Giants are at 100/5 after 12 overs. Need 137 runs in 48 balls. Badoni: 32* (18), Samad: 12* (9)
Vijaykumar Vyshak came in the game as an impact sub and was welcomed with a six on the first ball of the 12th over by Abdul Samad. Ayush Badoni struck a six and a couple of fours in the over as LSG finally strung together some attacking shots in a single over.
Lucknow Super Giants are at 74/5 after 10 overs. Need 163 runs in 60 balls. Badoni: 18* (14), Samad: 1* (1)
David Miller’s campaign has gone from bad to worse as the season progresses. The left-handed batter was dismissed for another low score with Azmatullah Omarzai picking up his second wicket.
Lucknow Super Giants are at 58/4 after 8 overs. Need 179 runs in 72 balls. Badoni: 15* (10), Miller: 0* (1)
Azmatullah Omarzai has got himself into the wickets as the Afghan pacer got the better of Rishabh Pant. The LSG skipper scored 18 runs in 17 balls before he was dismissed.
Lucknow Super Giants are at 38/3 after 6 overs. Need 199 runs in 14 overs. Pant: 6* (9), Badoni: 9* (7)
Picking up three wickets in the power play usually ends up with the bowling team winning the match. But when you are defending a huge score of 237 runs, there is no doubt over the fact that Arshdeep Singh has bowled a match-winning spell.
Lucknow Super Giants are at 29/3 after 5 overs. Need 208 runs in 15 overs. Pant: 6* (9), Badoni: 1* (1)
Nicholas Pooran is the third batter to be dismissed, and once again, it is Arshdeep Singh who has got the dangerous-looking Pooran trapped in front of the stumps. The left-arm pacer was given an extra over in the power play, and he got his skipper a crucial wicket, which could possibly seal the game.
Lucknow Super Giants are at 16/2 after 3 overs. Need 221 runs in 17 overs. Pooran: 1* (2), Pant: 0* (1)
Nehal Wadhera took a similar catch that was dropped by Nicholas Pooran to dismiss Mitchell Marsh for a five-ball duck. Marsh had skied a delivery from Arshdeep Singh so high in the air that it looked like the ball hung for a few seconds before it came down to Wadhera. Both times, Arshdeep has dismissed Marsh for a duck this season.
Just a few balls later in the same over, Arshdeep got the better of Aiden Markram as the South African batter dragged one down to his stumps.
Lucknow Super Giants are at 3/0 after 1 over. Need 234 runs in 19 overs. Markram: 3* (3), Marsh: 0* (3)
Arshdeep Singh came on to bowl the first over of the second innings. The left-arm pacer got the ball moving in the air and mixed his lines and lengths. He bowled a jaffa to end the over, which missed the edge of Mitchell Marsh’s bat by a whisker.
Thanks to a catch dropped by Nicholas Pooran of Prabhimran Singh, the Punjab Kings have ended with a score of 236 runs. The opening batter had scored only 21 runs at the time of being dropped. He ended up scoring 91 runs in 48 balls and made the LLSG bowlers pay for the mistake.
Punjab Kings are at 186/4 after 17 overs. Prabhsimran: 74* (42), Shashank: 17* (8)
The PBKS batters have set their team up for a score of close to 230 runs. Both Shashank Singh and Prabhimran are hitting boundaries at will against every bowler.
Punjab Kings are at 162/4 after 15.2 overs. Prabhsimran: 67* (40)
Prince Yadav has got the better of Nehal Wadhera as he bowled the left-handed batter round his legs. LSG would need to take a few more wickets in quick succession to restrict PBKS to a score around 200.
Punjab Kings are at 134/3 after 13 overs. Prabhsimran: 51* (32), Wadhera: 5* (3)
Like the last over, Shreyas Iyer once again started the over with a six. However, Digvesh Rathi bowled a flicker which stuck a bit in the surface before taking the outside edge of Iyer’s bat. The ball went to Mayank Yadav at point, who completed the catch. It was the first time this season the PBKS skipper was dismissed by a spinner. Nehal Wadhera opened his mark, smashing a loose delivery from Rathi to the boundary fence.
Punjab Kings are at 122/2 after 12 overs. Prabhsimran: 50* (31), Shreyas: 39* (23)
Shreyas Iyer once again has shown that once he gets his score into a double-digit figure, there is no stopping him. The PBKS skipper welcomed Prince Yadav with a six into his second over. He struck a four too on the third ball of the over. The right-arm pacer bowled another expensive over as PBKS tightened their grip over the clash.
Punjab Kings are at 109/2 after 11 overs. Prabhsimran: 50* (30), Shreyas: 26* (18)
Prabhsimran Singh has carried on with his fine form and scored another half-century. The opening batter smashed his third fifty in a row. Barring that one opportunity where he was dropped by Nicholas Pooran, he has not provided the visitors with any chance.
Meanwhile, Mayank Yadav, on the other hand, has been really off colour. While he used change of pace deliveries to pick up a couple of wickets in the previous game, he has been smashed to different parts of the ground. In his three overs, the right-arm pacer has conceded 45 runs.
Punjab Kings are at 85/2 after 8 overs. Prabhsimran: 37* (20), Shreyas: 17* (10)
Akash Singh has bowled out his four overs. Making his debut for the franchise, the left-arm pacer took two wickets and gave away only 30 runs in his four overs, while the innings run rate has been more than 10.50 runs per over.
Punjab Kings are at 66/2 after 6 overs. Prabhsimran: 29* (15), Shreyas: 6* (3)
Prabhsimran Singh has been handed a second life by Nicholas Pooran. The young batter skied a delivery miles into the air. Pooran had enough time to settle under the catch, but he dropped it even after making a sound judgment. To make matters worse, the right-handed batter smashed a four on the final ball of the sixth over.
Punjab Kings are at 56/2 after 5 overs. Prabhsimran: 20* (10), Shreyas: 5* (2)
Akash Singh’s night keeps getting better. After giving only eight runs in his first two overs, the left-arm pacer was given a third over, and his team reaped the rewards as he dismissed Josh Inglis, who had scored 30 runs in only 14 balls.
Punjab Kings are at 28/1 after 3 overs. Prabhsimran: 3* (3), Inglis: 24* (11)
Josh Inglis took the attack against Mayank Yadav in the second over, hitting him for three sixes on the trot. However, the right-arm pacer would feel let down by his bowling partner, Avesh Khan, who misjudged a catch as he was standing at least 2-2.5 metres inside the boundary rope. Meanwhile, Akash Singh in his second over only gave away a couple of runs.
Punjab Kings are at 6/1 after 1 over. Prabhsimran: 1* (1), Inglis: 4* (1)
Akash Singh, playing his first game of the season, has taken an important wicket for the Lucknow Super Giants. He has broken the dangerous-looking opening partnership of Punjab Kings with the wicket of Priyansh Arya.
LSG won the toss and elected to bowl first at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.
