Although height is not crucial in cricket, it does help, especially for fast bowlers who benefit from extra bounce and angles. Some players have attracted attention not just for their performance but also for their imposing presence on the field.
The tallest cricketers have always attracted attention, from the 7-foot-tall Mohammad Irfan to the lanky Marco Jansen. Here are the top ten tallest cricketers in the world, whose height has become as important to their game as their skill.
Peter George is the 10th tallest cricketer in the world. The former Australian pacer is 6 feet and 8 inches tall. He played only a solitary test match representing the national team. He played a test at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in 2010. George was a part of one of the poorest Australian bowling attacks.
George picked up two wickets in the second innings. Sachin Tendulkar who had scored a double century was his first international wicket. He dismissed Zaheer Khan as well which ended up being his last in international cricket. George continued toiling hard in domestic cricket but never came close to another call-up to the national side.
Joel Garner is the ninth tallest cricketer in the world. The legendary pacer for the West Indies is 6 feet and eight inches tall. Garner was one of the most feared bowlers of his generation. He was part of the legendary bowling quartet from the West Indies. Nicknamed Big Bird thanks to his tall height, he picked up 259 wickets in 58 tests.
Garner’s wickets in the format came at a mind-boggling average of 20.97. Only teammate, Malcolm Marshall picked up more wickets than him at a better average. The right-arm pacer performed the best against England. In 19 games against them, Garner picked up 92 wickets at an average of 17.93. He also played 98 ODIs, where the former pacer picked up 146 wickets at an average of 18.84. He has the best bowling average in the format for players with at least 100 wickets.
Bruce Reid is the eighth tallest cricketer in the world. The former Australian quick was 6 feet and 8 inches tall. Unlike many tall pacers, Reid had the uncanny ability to swing the ball as well in his arsenal. The left-arm pacer made his debut along with more household names Mev Hughes and Geoff Marsh. The tall height came with its own set of problems such as back injuries.
He played 27 tests for Australia and picked up 113 wickets while averaging 24.63. 17 of his tests came in home conditions, where Reid picked up 84 wickets at 20 apiece. He played 61 ODIs picking up 63 wickets. The left-arm pacer was part of the team that won Australia’s first World Cup in 1987. He managed to pick up only six wickets in eight matches and was pretty much listless throughout the tournament.
Cameron Cuffy is the 7th tallest cricketer in the world. The West Indies pacer stood at 6 feet and 8 inches. Unfortunately for Cuffy, his career coincided with Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh. Ambrose and Walsh were two of the finest fast bowlers in the cricket’s history. Therefore, Cuffy had to wait for their careers to end to find a regular place in the playing 11.
The right-arm pacer only played 15 tests and 41 ODIs. He picked 43 wickets in the longest format at an average of 33.83. In ODIs, he picked up 41 wickets at an average of 35. Cuffy was much better at the domestic level. In 86 first-class games, the pacer picked up 252 wickets at 26 apiece.
Blessing Muzarabani is the sixth tallest cricketer in the world. The Zimbabwean pacer is 6 feet and 8 inches tall. Muzarabani has been one of the most exciting prospects for Zimbabwe in the last few years. He played an integral role in the T20 World Cup in 2022. In the historic win against Pakistan, the 28-year-old pacer gave away only 18 runs in four overs while picking up a wicket.
Muzarabani has had his most successful time in T20Is and tests. In nine matches with the red cherry in his hand, the right-arm pacer has picked up 33 wickets at an average of 23.66. He has a fifer to his name in the format as well. In 67 T20Is, Muzarabani has taken 77 wickets while going at an economy of close to 7 runs per over.
Kyle Jamieson is the fifth tallest cricketer in the world. The Kiwi bowler is 6 feet and 8 inches tall. Having started his career in 2020, Jamieson had an exciting start to his career. On his debut, he took a four-fer in the first innings against India and played a crucial knock of 44 runs. In the next match, he was named the Player of the Match for picking up a fifer and making 49 runs in a close-fought game.
Jamieson continued his great form against India in the World Test Championship Final in 2021 where he picked up seven wickets in the match and made 21 runs to clinch the title. The tall pacer has been a great bowler in test cricket; he has taken 80 wickets at 19.73 in 19 matches. Against India, in five games, Jamieson has 22 wickets averaging less than 18. Injuries have made a few interruptions to his otherwise stellar career.
Billy Stanlake is the fourth tallest cricketer in the world. The Australian pacer is 6 feet and 8.5 inches tall. He rose to popularity playing in the domestic circuit. Stanlake’s height coupled with pace made him a threatening bowler. However, as is the case with tall fast bowlers, Stanlake too has struggled with back injuries. Before his international debut, the right-arm had played a handful of domestic games and only had seven BBL appearances next to his name.
Stanlake has played seven ODIs and 19 T20Is where his form has been contrasting in nature. In ODIs, the 30-year-old has taken only seven wickets while going at an economy of 5.5 runs per over. In T20Is, he has been a regular wicket-taker and has picked up 27 scalps at a strike rate of 15.5.
Boyd Rankin is the third tallest cricketer in the world. The former pacer is 6 feet and 8.5 inches tall. Rankin started his career with Ireland during the 2007 ODI World Cup. He played a huge role in Ireland’s win over Pakistan. In nine overs, he picked up three wickets while giving away only 32 runs.
In order to play test cricket, the pacer made a move from Ireland to England. He was named in the squad for Ashes down under in 2013. Rankin played a single game where he picked only one wicket. The right-arm pacer never played another test for England and made a move back to Ireland once again. His strongest format has been ODIs, where Rankin has taken 106 wickets in 75 games while going at an economy of 4.8 runs per over.
Marco Jansen is the second tallest cricketer in the world. The South African all-rounder is 6 feet and 10 inches tall. He is one of the very few tall cricketers who is a handy batter as well. He has made an impressive start to his career having made his debut in 2021. Jansen was the first player to be born in 2000 or after to debut in international cricket. However, even before he played his first match for South Africa, the tall left-armer was in the bowling nets against a touring Indian side in 2017/18.
He has been an important player of the South African team that reached the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup in 2023, the finals of the T20 World Cup in 2024, and the finals of the World Test Championship in 2025. He has played 17 tests so far and taken 73 wickets at an average of 21.76. During these games, Jansen has also scored 506 runs including three fifties. In white-ball cricket, he is yet to make a similar sort of an impact but is still one of the first names on the South African team sheet.
Mohammad Irfan is the tallest cricketer in the world. The Pakistani pacer is 7 feet and 1 inch tall. Irfan idolized Joel Garner, and while he could not match his performances, the Pakistani pacer certainly topped the former West Indies pacer in height. Irfan had to quit domestic cricket to support his family due to the limited number of opportunities in his hometown. He continued to play domestic cricket where Aaqib Javed spotted him and got him to join the National Cricket Academy.
His international debut came in 2010 where he was injured midway through bowling his sixth over and remained wicketless. His stronger sui has been the ODIs, where the tall pacer has accounted for 83 wickets in 60 matches. His economy in the format is less than 5 runs per over. Irfan last played an international match in 2019. However, he still plays white-ball matches in the domestic circuit and T20 leagues around the world.
Ishant Sharma unsurprisingly is the tallest Indian cricketer. The right-arm pacer is 6 feet and 4 inches tall. In spite of playing his last international match in 2021, Sharma is still going strong in domestic cricket for Delhi.
Prasidh Krishna and recently retired, Ravichandran Ashwin are the joint second-tallest Indian cricketers. Both of them are 6 feet and 2 inches tall. The list also features Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar, and Deepak Hooda who are 6 feet and 1 inches tall.
Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, Umesh Yadav, and KL Rahul make up the rest of the list as some of the tallest Indian cricketers.
