The Lucknow Super Giants are entering the match against Chennai Super Kings in tremendous vein of form having won three games on the bounce and four out of their last five games. They’ve got one of the most power packed batting lineups in the league with Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh leading the charge from front. While, their bowling despite being a bit underwhelming on paper has been working well in this decent run of form.
The Chennai Super Kings on the other hand are a complete opposite run of form compared to the Lucknow Super Giants. They’ve lost their last five games and have become a shadow of their past self. They currently sit plum last on the points table having won only one game in the tournament and given their batting woes they seem to be doomed this season.
Ever since Lucknow Super Giants entered the IPL back in 2022, they have played five games against Chennai Super Kings and have had the upper hand over the franchise. They’ve won three of the five encounters in the last 3 seasons with CSK winning only one. One of the matches resulted in a No Result due to being halted by rain.
The Lucknow Super Giants will be entering the contest in a rich vein of form and boast an explosive batting lineup with the likes of Rishabh Pant, Nicholas Pooran, Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, David Miller, Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad. Their bowling looked shaky at the start of the competition has since stabilised with their two leg spinners in Digvesh Sharma and Ravi Bishnoi performing well alongside Shardul Thakur. Mitchell Marsh missed the last game against Gujarat Titans due to personal reasons so there’s uncertainty over his return.
Chennai Super Kings struggles in the IPL 2025 seem to be never ending as they are unit extremely low on confidence and out of any ideas on how to turn their rut around. Their bowling is misfiring while their batting has shown some clear lack of intent and ideas when it comes to putting up big scores. With injury to Ruturaj Gaikwad ruling him out of the competition, MS Dhoni has returned as the skipper of CSK and faces perhaps his biggest challenge of his illustrious IPL career - reviving the fortunes of this CSK side.
The Lucknow Super Giants will be hosting Chennai Super Kings at the Ekana Stadium. The weather is once again going to be hot but ideal for playing conditions. The temperatures are expected to be around 35°C during evening but cool down to 27°C as the match progresses. There’s 41% humidity but the chances of rain are negligible hence the weather isn’t expected to have a say on the game.
As far as the pitch is concerned, the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow boasts one of the slowest and toughest decks to bat on in the nation. The average first innings score at the Ekana stadium is just around 168 hence, a high scoring encounter is not on the cards. As always, the Ekana pitch will once again be suitable for spinners.
Scenario 1: If Lucknow Super Giants win the toss they are expected to bat first as they will aim to put up a high score and put pressure on CSK’s underperforming batting unit.
Scenario 2: If Chennai Super Kings bat first, they would like to put up a defendable score and then take help from the surface for their spinners.
In both scenarios, Lucknow Super Giants are expected to win the match.

Nicholas Pooran is in simply scrumptious form for the Lucknow Super Giants in this year’s Tata IPL. Pooran is the orange cap holder having scored a whopping 349 runs already in this year IPL and is showing no signs of slowing down. Hence he will be a batter to look out for in the contest.
Noor Ahmad has been the pick of the bowlers for CSK in this year’s Tata IPL having picked up 12 wickets in just six matches. Noor Ahmed is dominating the purple cap race and will once again be a top asset for CSK if they have any hopes of winning the game.
