How is the market's interest in buying teams?

The level of market interest in buying teams is reflected in the fact that the ECB recently raised nearly $2 billion by selling a 49% stake in each of the Hundred's eight clubs. A large part of this windfall came from the bidding race for the Lord's-based London Spirit franchise. Apart from this, many boards have invited private investors to their leagues, which has given them huge profits. Importantly, the BCG report also recommended that the Big Bash League (BBL) not expand the number of clubs unless they sold stakes in existing teams, as they argued expansion would reduce the teams' value. Although the CA board has a regular meeting later this week, debate over a final decision is likely to continue until the end of the year. Baird and new chief executive Todd Greenberg prefer to build consensus on their decisions. A steering committee, which included representation from both CA and the state associations, supported the BCG's work, but there were differing views on what to do next.

Impact of Indian Investors on the World of Franchise Cricket Leagues

All 10 Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises are owned by Indian investors or businessmen. After getting good success in IPL, these investors have turned their attention not only towards the Indian leagues but also towards other leagues around the world. Initially, Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians tried to make their presence global, after which all the owners of Indian IPL teams have done the same. At present, the IPL investors have good ownership rights in the world's biggest leagues like the South Africa T20 league, ILT20, Caribbean Premier League (CPL), the MLC 20, and the Hundred. While all the teams of SA20 and 5 teams of ILT20 are owned by IPL team owners. These figures show how much interest Indian investors have in the franchise cricket world. They also proved it again recently by buying shares in The Hundred League as well. Thus, if Cricket Australia thinks of selling the shares of the (Big Bash League) BBL teams, then Indian investors will definitely consider it appropriate to rush there. Given the kind of influence Indian investors have on the entire World Cricket League, they will definitely think of expanding it further from here so that their global presence grows further.
