The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remaining matches of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 for one week, with immediate effect.
A new schedule and details about the venues will be shared later after a full review of the situation, in conclusion with the concerned authorities and stakeholders. The IPL governing authorities, after discussions with team owners, who shared the concerns of their players, have decided to hold the IPL for a week. Concerns were also considered from broadcasters, sponsors, and fans. While the BCCI has the complete strength and readiness of our armed forces, it felt that holding the tournament was the most responsible step for everyone involved in it.
“This is the second time the IPL has been suspended in the middle of a season. In 2021, the tournament was delayed after a COVID-19 safety bubble was broken, and the remaining matches were later played in the UAE.”
The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) got an anonymous email on Friday morning, threatening to bomb the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The stadium is the home ground of the Delhi Capitals team and was set to host the IPL 2025 match between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans on May 11, before the tournament was paused for a week.
At this crucial time, the BCCI stands united with the nation. We express our full support for the Government of India, the Armed Forces, and all citizens. We salute the bravery and sacrifice of our soldiers, especially those leading Operation Sindoor, as they respond with strength to the recent terrorist attack and the unprovoked aggression from Pakistan’s military.
Cricket is loved across the country, but nothing is more important than our nation’s safety, unity, and freedom. The BCCI is fully committed to supporting all efforts that protect India and always makes decisions that are in the country’s best interest.
