Sai Sudharsan was named the player of the match for his incredible match-winning century. The left-handed batter not only climbed to the top of the Orange Cap list but also sealed an emphatic 10-wicket victory for the Titans, which saw the team qualify for the playoffs as well. He scored 108 runs off 61 deliveries, hitting 12 fours and four sixes in his knock.
Sai Sudharsan scored only his second century in the IPL. The left-handed batter was off to a flying start in the first three overs of the power play. He took the attack against Axar Patel and Natarajan before some disciplined bowling from the hosts arrested the rate of scoring. However, once Axar brought himself back into the attack, the runs started to flow once again. Sudharsan quickly reached his fifty in only 30 balls. Barring a close LBW call against Kuldeep Yadav, the southpaw was flawless in his knock.
He scored at a brilliant pace at a strike rate of 177. In his 61-ball knock, the left-hander scored 108 runs. Even though he ran pretty hard between the wickets, he still managed to hit 12 fours and four sixes in the innings.
Like his opening partner, Shubman Gill showcased his brilliance. While Gill could not reach his century, he remained not out with a brilliant score of 93 runs. The GT skipper started off the chase pretty slowly, but quickly got going with a couple of boundaries at the halfway stage of the innings. Even though it looked like the right-handed batter was playing second fiddle, he was going at a better strike rate. Gill scored 93 runs in 53 balls, hitting three fours and seven sixes.
KL Rahul scored his fifth century in the IPL. He became the first right-handed batter to score a ton this season. Rahul, for only the second time in IPL 2025, opened the batting along with Faf du Plessis. He was named the player of the match the last time he opened against Chennai Super Kings, and he made sure to play another great knock worthy of the POTM award.
Like du Plessis, Rahul started off his innings pretty slowly. He was 10 off the first 11 balls he faced in the power play. However, he was quickly off his straps and took the attack against Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada to end the power play on a high. He reached his fifty off 35 balls only and then took his knock to a different gear. The next 30 balls fetched him 61 runs, and the only thing that stood between him and a triple-digit score was the fact that he did not face many balls during a phase of four overs. For a moment, he had faced only four balls in a 24-ball period. However, the moment he came to the crease, Rahul did not show any signs of rustiness.
Gujarat Titans, after winning the toss, made the best use of the conditions early on. The bowlers from the visiting side were pretty accurate with their lines and lengths and did not give away anything to the DC batters. Only 19 runs were scored in the first four overs, and Arshad Khan dismissed Faf du Plessis as well.
However, KL Rahul and Abhishek Porel stitched up a highly vital partnership for the second wicket. The two wicket-keeper batters shared a 90-run stand before Porel was dismissed. Both Rahul and Porel batted positively and dominated the proceedings for a while, and took the attack against Kagiso Rabada, Prasidh Krishna, and Rashid Khan.
Rahul became the first right-handed batter to score a century this season. Alongside the wicketkeeper batter, Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs played a couple of useful cameos. The DC skipper scored 25 runs off 16 balls while Stubbs, thanks to two sixes, scored 21 runs in only 10 balls.
Gujarat Titans got off to a flier in the second innings. Sai Sudharsan took on the attack against Axar Patel and Natarajan in the first three overs. The left-handed batter smashed both the bowlers all around the park as GT scored 43 runs in the first three overs.
However, despite being wicketless, DC produced a great five-over period. With Mustafizur Rahman, Dushmantha Chameera, Vipraj Nigam, and Kuldeep Yadav bowling, the hosts gave away only 27 runs in 30 balls.
For some reason, Axar Patel brought himself back into the attack to bowl the ninth over. It went downhill for the hosts from that point forward. The two GT batters played some great shots and turned the game on its head. Both Sudharsan and Shubman Gill reached their fifties.
The left-handed opening batter went one step further and reached the triple-digit figure. It was only his second century in the Indian Premier League. While Gill could not reach his century, he was brilliant in his 93-run knock as well.
