Dewald Brevis was named the player of the match for his brilliant batting performance in the first innings. The South African batter was at his best with the bat in hand. He scored 57 runs in only 23 balls and made the difference in the first innings. Thanks to his high-striking knock, Chennai Super Kings ended up with a total of 230 runs. He made sure that CSK ended the first innings on a high note and carried the momentum in the second innings.
Dewald Brevis, like Ayush Mhatre, has been a revelation for the Super Kings since coming into the squad this year. The right-handed batter has taken the role of the middle-order batter like a fish takes to water. Against the Titans, Brevis scored a hard-hitting half-century. He ended up with 57 runs in 23 balls, smashing four fours and five sixes in his knock.
Devon Conway scored his second fifty of IPL 2025. The Kiwi batter started cautiously and took his time without worrying about the rate of scoring, thanks to Ayush Mhatre. Mhatre’s hard-hitting knock allowed the left-handed batter to take his time and settle in for a big score. Conway scored a solid half-century, hitting six fours and a couple of sixes in his 35-ball knock.
Ayush Mhatre once again was pretty great opening the innings. The 17-year-old batter took on the attack against Arshad Khan and Mohammed Siraj. He scored 28 runs off the second over from Arshad, which resulted in him not being used in the innings till the 18th over. He gave the Super Kings a fantastic start, which they desperately needed against the table-toppers. Mhatre was dismissed by Prasidh Krishna after scoring 34 runs off 17 deliveries.
The all-around skills of Ravindra Jadeja were on full display in the last game for Chennai Super Kings this season. The left-handed batter scored 21 runs off 18 deliveries in the first innings. While his strike rate was not up to the mark, he managed to put Dewald Brevis on the strike consistently.
With the ball in hand, Jadeja took the new ball in hand and bowled the first over of the second innings. The left-arm spinner was pretty economical in his first two overs, giving away 15 runs. He turned the game on its head with a brilliant third over in which he picked up a couple of wickets.
Anshul Kamboj was at his best with the new ball and picked up a couple of wickets. He broke the dangerous opening stand by dismissing Shubman Gill. Bowling his second over, Kamboj claimed the wicket of Jos Buttler to completely kill off the chase. He also picked up the final wicket and ended up with a three-fer.
Chennai Super Kings started their batting innings on the best note possible. For the first time in the season, their opening batters came to the party together. First, it was Ayush Mhatre who took off in the power play and scored 34 runs in only 17 balls before being dismissed in the fourth over.
Devon Conway played a steady knock and received some support from Urvil Patel. The two batters shared a 63-run stand before the right-handed batter was dismissed in the ninth over. While Conway reached his second half-century of the season, things went downhill slightly for the five-time champions. In the space of 25 balls, the men in yellow lost three wickets, including the two set batters and Shivam Dube.
Courtesy of another great knock by Dewald Brevis, the Super Kings ended up with a great score. The South African batter came to the crease after there was a loss of a couple of wickets. He scored 57 runs at a strike rate of close to 250 to power CSK to a score of 230 runs.
For the Titans, Prasidh Krishna was the best bowler. The right-arm pacer picked up a couple of wickets, but it was his economy that made him stand out among the rest of the bowlers. He gave away only 22 runs in his four overs at an economy of only 5.5 runs per over in an innings where CSK went at a pace of 11.5 RPO.
It was a horrible start for the Gujarat Titans in the second innings. Their impressive top-order, barring Sai Sudharsan, was back in the dressing room for quiet scores in the power play itself. Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, and Sai Sudharsan scored a combined total of 18 runs before being dismissed.
Anshul Kamboj and Khaleel Ahmed picked up the crucial wickets for the Super Kings. Kamboj, in his first over, broke the opening stand by dismissing Gill. Khaleel dismissed Buttler before his bowling partner picked up Rutherford for a four-ball duck.
There was a bit of resistance from Sudharsan and Shahrukh Khan. However, the chase proved to be out of their grasp, and they were dismissed in the same over by Ravindra Jadeja. The wickets continued to tumble for the Titans as they lost their second match in a row. Noor Ahmad came on to bowl in the middle-over phase and picked up three wickets to get his name on top of the purple cap list.
