Shreyas Iyer is the second highest paid IPL captain and the second most expensive player in the history of this cash rich league tournament. He was brought for 26.75 crores in this years mega auction by the franchise team of Punjab Kings. Iyer has been really making a worth of that huge price tag. He was released by Kolkata Knight Riders even after he won them their third trophy of the Indian Premier League.

However, this hasn’t happened for the first time with Shreyas. When he led the Delhi Capitals to their maiden playoffs in 2019 and their only IPL final in 2020, still DC didn’t retain him. But now, Shreyas will aim to win his second IPL title as a captain and the maiden one for the Punjab Kings. If he does so, then Shreyas Iyer will become the first ever skipper to win an IPL season for two different franchise teams of this league tournament.

After yesterday’s win over Mumbai Indians, Shreyas Iyer has achieved a rare feat in the history of the Indian Premier League. Iyer became the first ever skipper of the TATA IPL to take three different franchise teams to top two. In 2019 and 2020, Delhi was in the top two. Last year in TATA IPL 2024 edition, Kolkata Knight Riders were in top two and now in the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League, Shreyas and Pointing have taken their Punjab Kings team to the top two.

Now it remains to be seen if the Punjab Kings wins this year’s IPL or not. Today, the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Giants will decide the second team in the qualifier one. LSG is already out of the tournament. However, RCB has a chance of making to the qualifier one round. Rajat Patidar and his men needs to win by a huge margin against Pant & Co today to ensure a place in the first qualification round in the TATA IPL 2025.
