Ishan Kishan is not in the Indian Test Team setup, but he is still playing professional cricket in England. He is playing County Cricket for Nottinghamshire. As of now, he has played two games in the championship, one against Yorkshire and one against Somerset. Although Ishan Kishan is a wicketkeeper batter, he is in the news due to his bowling.
While playing his second County game, against Somerset, he bowled one over with different bowling actions. The game between Nottinghamshire and Somerset is going nowhere. There was no chance of getting a result in the game. So Ishan Kishan took off his wicketkeeping gloves and picked up the ball in his hand.
Ishan Kishan bowled that one over with a different bowling action. On the first ball, he tried to imitate former legendary off-spinner Harbhajan Singh. Tom Kohler-Cadmore took a single at long-on on the first ball. Then, he bowled a straight delivery with another action to Tom Abell. He gave some air on the third ball, which Tom Abell defended easily.
After four balls, he changed the side and bowled a leg spin from around the wicket. He then finished the over with the last two balls as a leg spinner. Some fans think that Ishan Kishan was imitating Sachin Tendulkar, and some believe that he was trying to be Shane Warne. Anyways, he bowled a half-tracker going away from the batter Tom Abell, and was just inside the wide line to finish the over. Eventually, Kishan’s over turned out to be the last over of the match. Both teams shook hands, and the game ended in a draw.
Ishan Kishan has done well with the bat so far in his two outings in the County Championship. In a game against Yorkshire, he scored 87 runs off just 98 balls with 12 fours and a six. He also scored 77 runs off 128 balls against Somerset. In his knock against Somerset, he hit 8 fours and 2 sixes. Ishan Kishan has only signed a contract for two County Championship games.
Ishan Kishan’s career has been a roller coaster ride in the last few seasons. He has been a part of the Indian team setup for a while now. The wicketkeeper batter is not a regular in the team but has featured more in white ball cricket for Team India. He has also played test cricket in the West Indies in 2023. But in December 2023, he came back home from South Africa during the mid-tour, citing personal issues. After that, he also skipped the domestic Ranji Trophy games in 2024.
There were some media reports that Ishan Kishan was not happy with the team management due to fewer opportunities for him in the playing XI. Another report suggested that the team management was not happy with the way Kishan stepped out of the SA tour. Whatever it is, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has terminated its central contract after all these incidents.
Now, Kishan is back with the BCCI’s central contract. He is not a part of the test team as Rishabh Pant is back to full fitness. Dhruv Jurel is the backup wicketkeeper in the team on the England tour.
Ishan Kishan started the IPL 2025 with a bang. He scored an outstanding hundred against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the second match of IPL 2025. The left-hander has not had a great impact after that inning, but still managed to score 354 runs in the season. He was also a part of the shadow tour of India against the England Lions. Now, he will look to get back to the senior team and wants to make his mark. Let’s see how things pan out for him going forward.
