Ishan Kishan was named the player of the match for his batting performance in the first innings. The wicketkeeper batter for SRH scored 94 runs in only 48 balls and remained not out to make sure that the Orange Army ended up with a huge score. His knock meant that SRH not only went past the 200-run mark but also set up a daunting target of 232 runs. Kishan smashed seven fours and five sixes in addition to running pretty hard between the wickets.
Ishan Kishan played a great knock and scored his first half-century of the season. The left-handed batter has a century to his name. It had been a tough season for the wicketkeeper batter after a match-winning ton against the Royals. After the two opening batters laid a great foundation for him, Kishan made sure to make the most of the platform that was set for him. He scored 94 runs and remained unbeaten to see his side through a huge score. Kishan struck seven fours and five sixes in his 48-ball knock.
Eshan Malinga turned the game on its head with his 16th over. He effected a run out to send Rajat Patidar back into the dressing room. The Sri Lankan pacer nailed a slower yorker to Romario Shepherd and dismissed him for a golden duck. Malinga picked up another wicket in the 18th over, dismissing an injured Tim David. His first two overs went for 23 runs, but the way he managed to stitch a comeback won the game for the Orange Army.
Pat Cummins led the Sunrisers Hyderabad with the ball in hand from the front. The right-arm not only picked up three wickets but also remained pretty economical. Cummins took the important wicket of Phil Salt at a crucial juncture to arrest the rate of scoring for RCB. The Australian pacer came back to bowl his final over and picked up two wickets, dismissing Krunal Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Phil Salt, after being out injured for more than a few days, announced his arrival in style. The right-handed batter played a brilliant counter-attacking innings and scored a half-century. The English batter did not get off to the best start and had scored only four runs off the eight balls. However, his knock quickly got into the fifth gear. Salt ended up with a score of 62 runs off 32 deliveries. He smashed four fours and five sixes in his knock.
Sunrisers Hyderabad got off to a powerful start courtesy of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. The two left-handed batters struck the ball all around the park before being dismissed in quick succession. Abhishek struck at a strike rate of 200 while scoring 34 runs.
Ishan Kishan came to the crease at the fall of the first wicket and saw Head depart to the dugout quickly. However, the wicketkeeper batter was at his best and took the attack against the RCB bowlers. At different stages of the game, Kishan received some support from Heinrich Klaasen and Aniket Verma.
Klaasen scored 24 runs in 13 balls, but it was a rollicking cameo from Aniket who scored 26 runs in only nine balls. Kishan, on the other end, kept the scoreboard ticking with timely boundaries. He not only smashed 12 boundaries but ran pretty hard between the wickets as well.
Romario Shepherd, who was introduced very late into the attack, was the best bowler from RCB. He came on to bowl the 15th over and struck with his second delivery. The right-arm pacer picked up a second wicket in his very next over. Shepherd bowled only two overs and gave away 14 runs.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru got off to a great start. Virat Kohli was the aggressor in the initial stages of the power play. The former RCB skipper was going at a rate of 200 in the first six overs. Phil Salt took his time initially and had scored only four runs in the first eight balls he faced. However, he broke the shackles soon and found some boundaries.
Salt received a second life after being dismissed on a waist-high full toss, which was just three centimetres away from being a legal delivery. The English batter made the most of the opportunity and scored a half-century. Meanwhile, Kohli missed out on a fifty by only seven runs.
Even when SRH picked up a couple of wickets in quick succession, RCB were right in the game. Jitesh Sharma and Rajat Patidar got off to a great start and kept the asking rate in check for the initial overs of their partnership.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, having picked up a wicket in his first over, gave only four runs in his second over. The right-arm pacer bowled a quiet over when both Patidar and Jitesh were going all guns blazing.
The over from Nitish changed the game as Eshan Malinga in the following over picked up two wickets, including a runout off his own bowling. The Sri Lankan pacer was right on the money with his yorkers. He finished his spell with another wicket, dismissing Tim David. Pat Cummins came back to bowl his final over and picked up a couple of wickets in the 19th to end up as the highest wicket-taker of the night.
