The team of Punjab Kings made to the finals in the Indian Premier League for just second time in the IPL. In 2014, they reached the IPL finals for the first ever time under the captaincy of George Bailey, the player from the Ausie nation and in TATA IPL 2025 edition, PBKS reached their second IPL finals under the leadership of Indian star batter Shreyas Iyer.
However, Iyer and co didn’t win the finals against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, which was played on 3rd June 2025 at Shri Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Punjab lost that finals by six runs and Iyer, the skipper, who was also the highest run getter for PBKS in this 18th edition of the Indian Premier League managed to score just one run in the big ticketed event.
Shreyas Iyer scored 604 runs in 17 matches and 17 innings of the TATA IPL 2025 edition. Iyer was the sixth highest run getter of this edition of the Indian Premier League. His score of 97 runs against Gujarat Titans was the 10th highest score of this season, his average of 50.33 is the seventh highest, Iyer has scored the six half centuries, which is the sixth most and he also has one score of ninety to his name in this season of the Indian Premier League.
The year of 2025 has been a good year for Shreyas Iyer as his two teams made it to the finals of the two different tournaments of the shortest format. After taking Punjab Kings to the finals in the TATA IPL 2025 edition, Shreyas Iyer also took SOBO Mumbai Falcons in the finals of the Mumbai T20 League in 2025. But here also, Iyer and his men failed to win the grand finale of this tournament. SOBO Mumbai Falcons lost the finals by five wickets against the team of Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The SOBO Mumbai Falcons side scored 157 runs in their allotted 20 overs. But Shreyas Iyer failed with the bat just like he did in the TATA IPL 2025 finals for the Punjab Kings. For PBKS, Iyer scored 1 run while for Mumbai Falcons, he managed to score just 12 runs and that too from 17 deliveries without any boundaries and sixes. Iyer scored just 62 runs from five innings in this T20 tournament of Mumbai.
