Glenn Maxwell took the most catches in BBL 2024/25. The Australian all-rounder from the Melbourne Stars took 14 catches. No other player managed to take 10 catches in the season. Mitchell Owen and David Warner are joint second on the list. The two opening batters took nine catches each in the season. The two incidentally faced off against each other in the season final.
In recent years the game has moved towards being more batting-friendly. The bowler needs every bit of support they can get from the fielder. Players like Maxwell, Owen, and Warner in particular are considered to have a safe pair of hands when it comes to catching.

Moises Henriques has the 5th most catches in the BBL. The all-rounder has taken 68 catches. Playing for the Sydney Sixers, Henriques is an experienced player in the Big Bash League. His experience has helped the Sixers in winning two titles and has made him a pretty successful captain in BBL. Henriques usually fielded inside the circle where he was not only a dynamic fielder but also a leader for his bowlers. He was stationed usually at short cover or mid-off, where he took most of his catches.
In his BBL career, the Sixers’ skipper has taken three catches in a single innings twice. The first time he achieved this was in BBL 2015/16. In a match against the Hobart Hurricanes, Henriques took three catches to dismiss Tim Paine, Jonathan Wells, and Cameron Boyce. The second time he took three catches in a single innings was in the BBL Final in 2020/21. He took the three catches to dismiss Colin Munro, Josh Inglis, and Andrew Tye.
Dan Christian has the 4th most catches in the BBL. The batting all-rounder retired after taking 69 catches in the tournament. He is again someone who has represented the Sydney Sixers in his career. Among the three teams, Christian represented, he played the most games for the three-time champions. Christian fielded at multiple positions during his illustrious career and took some of the most memorable catches in the history of the tournament. His athleticism allowed taking catches while running backward which is considered to be some of the toughest catches for any fielder. He came back from retirement in the 2024/25 season as multiple players from Syndey Thunder suffered injuries. However, Christian could not add a catch to his impressive tally.
Christian is one of the only five fielders to take four catches in a single BBL innings. He was the first one to do so in BBL 2015/16. Christian was playing for the Hobart Hurricanes against his former team, Brisbane Heat. His four catches helped in dismissing, Jimmy Peirson, Chris Lynn, Ben Cutting, and James Hopes. The batting all-rounder has also taken three catches in a single innings once in the BBL.

Henriqes’ teammate from the Sixers follows him on the list. Sean Abbott with 69 has taken the 3rd most catches in the BBL. Abbott like his skipper is a three-dimensional cricketer. His bowling overshadows his prowess as a lower-order batter and a fielder. Abbott has taken the most wickets in the BBL. He has played an important role in the success that the Sixers have enjoyed over the years. Unlike his skipper, Abbott usually found himself positioned at the deep where he took important catches often while running in after miscue shot from the batter.
In the BBL, Abbott has taken three catches in a single innings twice in his career. The first time he did it was in the final of BBL 2014/15. He took catches of important batters including Shaun Marsh, Michael Klinger, and Ashton Turner. However, Abbott ended up on the losing side. In BBL 2017/18, Abbott once again took three catches in an innings against Sydney Thunder. His catches included the wickets of Jos Buttler, Jason Sangha, and Chris Green.
Jordan Silk has taken the second most catches in the BBL. The veteran Sydney Sixers player has taken 85 catches in the Big Bash League so far. Silk along with Abbott and Henriques has led their team from the front when it comes to fielding. The three of them are an example of how catches can result in success. Silk is unarguably one of the best fielders in the competition. Catching while diving forward or to your wrong side can be extremely difficult for the best fielders. However, Silk makes it look pretty easy and has taken multiple catches while being in the air. Apart from his catches, the Sixers’ fielder makes innumerable saves on the boundary lines saving crucial runs for his team. Silk is one of the most unfortunate and the best players to have ever played a single game for Australia across formats.
Silk has taken three catches in a single innings in the BBL twice. Both occasions came in BBL 2022/23 hardly a month apart from each other. The first time Silk took three catches was against the Hobart Hurricanes. His catches dismissed dangerous batters, Matthew Wade, Tim David, and Asif Ali. The second occasion came against the Thunder. He took catches to dismiss Matthew Gikes, David Warner, and Ben Cutting.
Glenn Maxwell has taken the most catches in the BBL and is the only player among the top five players to have not played for the Sixers. The star Australian all-rounder has taken 88 catches so far in his BBL career. Maxwell is one of the best all-rounders in T20 cricket all around the world. His ability to change the game with the bat or the ball in hand often overshadows what he does on the field. He seldom drops any catches that come his way and is known to convert half-chances into successful catches with his athleticism.
Maxwell is also one of the five fielders to have taken four catches in a single innings in the BBL. He achieved the historic feat in BBL 2017/18 playing for the Melbourne Stars against the city rivals, the Renegades. Maxwell’s catches dismissed Tim Ludeman, Dwayne Bravo, Mohammad Nabi, and Jack Wildermuth. The Australian all-rounder has also taken three catches in a single BBL innings three times. He is one of the two fielders along with Nic Maddinson to have taken three or more catches in a single innings four times.
