England's recent Test form has been a bit mixed. In the last 5 Test matches, they have won 2 and lost 3. Their 1st Test was against India where they won with a solid performance. But then in the 3rd and 5th Tests, their team again fell down. Some good performances were also seen in between, like in the 3rd and 4th matches their batting scored quite well, but lack of consistency is still visible in their game.
In the 2nd Test, which just took place at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham, England lost to India in their own home by 336 runs. This defeat was not just a matter of the scorecard but was a big shock as Edgbaston is considered their stronghold. For the first time an Indian team won a Test match there and that too by such a huge margin. Harry Brook did score 158 runs in the first innings but apart from him nobody else did the work of holding the team together. Jamie Smith showed fight in the second innings but England folded in front of the bowling of Akash Deep and Siraj.
Overall, England's form is such that they sometimes win matches, but when pressure mounts, their batting collapses. And now that the series has been tied, it has become even more important for them to come back in the next match.
The last few Test matches have been tough for India. They had lost 3 consecutive Tests, in which their confidence was also a bit down. But then came the Birmingham win, in which the whole game changed. Before that, one of their matches was drawn, then they had to face defeat in three Test matches. But they never stopped fighting.
In the 2nd Test, which was also their first Edgbaston win, India showed complete domination. Shubman Gill played a historic knock as a captain – 269 and then 161. Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant also gave valuable runs in every innings. The biggest thing was Akash Deep's debut Test in which he took 10 wickets. Siraj also gave full support in bowling.
India put a mountain-like score in front of England by declaring 587 and 427/6. In bowling, they bowled out England for 407 and 271. This victory not only changed their form but also brought back their confidence.
Now that the series is level at 1-1, India's momentum looks the strongest. Young captain, new bowling line-up, and full team effort – all these together are making India dangerous for the upcoming matches.
This time we can get to see a slightly different pitch at Lord's. The last two matches were played on a flat pitch, but for this Test, England has asked for a green-top pitch. This means that there will be more grass on the pitch, which will benefit the fast bowlers.
On the first day of the match, the pitch can have both pace and bounce. Bowlers bowling with the new ball can get swing, so batting can be a bit difficult in the beginning. Batsmen will have to take time to settle down, otherwise wickets can fall quickly.
As the match progresses, the pitch may slow down a bit and there may also be an uneven bounce. Last month, during the WTC final, this was the pitch where some balls would stay low and some would go up, which made batting tough.
The weather will also be a little important. There will be sunshine on the first day, but there is a possibility of change in the last days, which will help in swing bowling.
The team winning the toss will prefer to bowl first, as the pitch will be fresh and the full advantage of the grass can be taken.
Overall, this pitch is perfect for fast bowlers. Batsmen will have to play carefully, especially in the beginning. Lord’s Test can be a low-scoring thriller.
A total of 136 Test matches have been played between India and England. England has won 51 of these and India 35. The remaining 50 matches have been draws. England is still slightly ahead in head-to-head, but in recent matches, India has achieved big wins against them – like Lord's in 2021, Perth in 2024 and now Edgbaston in 2025.
The last Head-to-Head match between these two teams etched in history. India won the Test for the first time in Edgbaston and that too by a huge margin of 336 runs.
India made 587 in the 1st innings. Shubman Gill scored 269 runs – a perfect example of patience, style and leadership. Jadeja scored 89, Jaiswal scored 87 and Pant added 54 valuable runs.
In the 2nd innings, Gill added 161 (138) runs and India declared at 427/6.
Akash Deep made a blast in his debut match itself. He took a total of 10 wickets – 6 in the second innings. Siraj also took 7 wickets in the entire match.
Harry Brook made 158 runs in the first innings. Jamie Smith made 88 runs in the second innings. But overall their batting collapsed.
India won by 336 runs. This is their biggest Test win overseas.
Such a match and such a comeback does not happen every time. Now when the series is at the level, we will see more fireworks in the final matches as well. India has challenged England in their home. This series has now become even more exciting for the fans.
