SRH opener Travis Michael Head is a left-handed batter and an occasional right-armed spinner from Adelaide, South Australia. After a long gap, Travis Head was reintroduced in the 2024 IPL as the SRH opener who previously played for the RCB from 2016 to 2017. 

His iconic return is based on his recent cricket performances in Domestic and international, including his 2023 ICC World Cup, Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and World Test Championship Final. His match-winning 137 runs against India helped Australia to secure their 6th title ICC World Cup in 2023. His aggressive batting approach, thriving under the pressure across multiple formats, became the highlight of the IPL 2024 Auction. He registered himself for the base price of Rs 2 crore and was the fourth player to be sold, acquired by the SRH for Rs 6.80 Crore in the IPL 2024 Mini Auction. He continued his stellar performances in the season and came out as one of the aggressive openers. Hyderabad secured their top player ahead of the 2025 season for Rs 14 crore.

Travis Head IPL Debut 

Travis Head made his IPL debut in 2016 with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He played his first IPL match against the Mumbai Indians on April 20 at Wankhede Stadium, scoring 37 runs off 24 balls before being run out by Harbhajan Singh and Parthiv Patel. He only appeared in 3 matches in his debut season.

After being unsold in 2018, Travis Head took a 7 year tournament gap before registering himself in the 2024 IPL season.  The Sunrisers Hyderabad saw an opportunity and bagged Travis Head’s services for the amount of Rs 6.80 crore. On his part, Travis Head didn’t disappoint and had a great season, scoring 500-plus runs in 15 matches, one of the leading scorers of the SRH.

As of the 2025 IPL, the Hyderabad franchise retained Travis Head, their key player, by using the five-player retention rule at Jeddah. Left-handed batter is one of the most expensive retentions of the Hyderabad franchise after Heinrich Klaasen (Rs 23 crore), Pat Cummins (Rs 18 crore), and Abhishek Sharma (Rs 14 crore). He played an instrumental role in the SRH’s 2024 IPL chase.

Travis started his IPL career with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2016, appearing only in three matches. After 2017, the franchise released him in the following season. In 2024, Head returned to the IPL and joined the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise. He emerged as an IPL star while contributing to the overall success of Sunrisers Hyderabad's maiden IPL Trophy chase into the Final, which they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders. However, SRH retained one of their key players, Travis Head, for the following season.
