The England vs India 5 match Test series is currently still wide open but Team India need to win in Manchester to stay alive in the series as England 2-1 going into Manchester.
England took the lead once again at the ‘Home of Cricket' Lord's Cricket Ground in London with a narrow 22 runs victory over the Shubman Gill-led team.
The Lord's ground proved to be a different challenge for both the teams. Whereas it was batting friendly surface in Leeds and Birmingham, the bowlers had a great outing at Lord's. Both the teams scored 387 runs in their respective first inning. Joe Root scored a century for England while KL Rahul got a hundred for Team India.
The Indian bowlers did really well to restrict England for just 192 runs in the 2nd inning. Washington Sundar took 4 wickets while Jasprit Bumrah, who earlier bagged 5-fer in the 1st innings, took 2 wickets.
Team India needed to chase 193 runs to win the match. However, a really bad start to the 2nd inning put them on the backfoot. They were 4 wickets down for 58 runs by the end of day 4.
KL Rahul and Rishabh resumed day 5 but Team India were soon 8 down for 112 runs. Ravindra Jadeja alongwith the tail-enders like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj tried his best but eventually Team India were all-out for 170 runs as England won by 22 runs.
After the win at Lord's, England cricket team now has a better recent form in the last 5 matches compared to that of Team India. In their 5 games, England have won 3 matches and lost 2. The two of the three wins came against Team India in this series.
Meanwhile, Team India is carrying bad form from the start of the year when they lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 4-1 after winning the first Test. In their last 5 matches, India have only one win and 4 losses. The only win was the one against England in Birmingham.
The England cricket team will be hoping for a win in this one too to already win the 5 match Test series with a game in hand. They currently lead the series 2-1.
England have had to make a small addition to the squad. They have included 35-year-old Liam Dawson into the team for the 4th Test in place of Shoaib Bashir, who has been ruled out due to injury. Dawson is a left-arm orthodox spin bowler who is making his return to the team after 7 years. He is likely to slot straight into the playing XI as England don't have a genuine spin bowler.
While the batting is set to be unchanged for the match, there is a small chance that Gus Atkinson gets into the XI in place of Chris Woakes. Gus was added into the squad ahead of the 3rd Test but didn't feature. Meanwhile, Woakes hasn’t done anything special in this series either with bat or ball.

Team India has a bit of an injury crisis going on right now. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, Akash Deep and Nitish Kumar Reddy have suffered an injury. While the former two are doubtful for the 4th Test, Nitish has been completely ruled out of the series. Anshul Kamboj has been added into the squad.
Jasprit Bumrah is not likely to be rested for the 4th Test. So he will continue alongside while Kamboj could also find a place in the team. Injured Nitish Kumar Reddy might be replaced by either Shardul Thakur or even Kuldeep Yadav.
Karun Nair's place in the playing XI is also under threat and it is likely that either of Sai Sudharsan, Dhruv Jurel or Abhimanyu Easwaran might replace him.
The hosts England have further extended their head-to-head advantage of Team India with a win in London in the 3rd Test. Now there have been 139 Test matches played between the two teams with England winning on 53 occasions while India have won 36 matches and 50 matches have ended in a draw.
The Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester is a venue that is historically known for its pace and bounce. But, due to the heatwave, as the game progresses, it slows down that aids the slow bowlers, especially the spinner.
However, given the weather rain and thundershower forecast in Manchester for the duration of the match, the pitch is expected to offer more assistance to the pace bowlers.
England: Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (C), Jamie Smith, Gus Atkinson, Jofra Archer, Brydon Carse, Liam Dawson.
Injury News: Liam Dawson has replaced Shoaib Bashir in the squad and is likely to play as the lone spinner for England.
India: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Anshul Kamboj.
Injury News: Jasprit Bumrah is likely to continue with injuries to key players like Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep. Anshul Kamboj has been included in the team.
For the England cricket team, Joe Root is going to be an important player if the pitch offers help for the pacers. Root with his huge experience, can tackle the Indian bowlers. He also scored a century in similar sort of conditions where the bowlers got a lot of help out of the surface.
England pacer Jofra Archer had a terrific return to the England Test team for the first time since 2021. He took 5 wickets in the match and if Old Trafford helps the pacers, then Archer can be a big threat.
When it comes to playing outside of India, KL Rahul is India’s best batsman. He has been in great form in this series having been finally allowed to play as an opener in this series. He has scored two centuries so far and scored 375 runs.
Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah is the best bowler in the Indian team currently. Be it any sort of conditions, Bumrah excels in all sorts for Team India. After he was rested for the 2nd Test, he picked a 5-fer and 7 wickets in the 3rd Test making his return.
Joe Root vs Jasprit Bumrah
Zak Crawley vs Jasprit Bumrah
Ollie Pope vs Mohammed Siraj
The India vs England 4th Test match at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester is a significant match-up between the two teams.
England is currently leading the series 2-1 and need a win to seal the series. Meanwhile, Team India needs a win or a draw at least to take the fight to the 5th Test.
There are significant chances of rain and thunderstorms on matchdays. However, England is the favourite outfit to win this match. With all the Injury crisis in the Indian team ahead of the 4th Test, and the cloudy weather would certainly help the pace bowlers.
England pacers like Jofra Archer, Brydon Carse, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes or Gus Atkinson can cause major damage to the Indian team. The middle-order in particular is not highly experienced and vulnerable against pace bowling conditions except for maybe Rishabh Pant. In this situation, England is the clear favourite to win this match.
