The bowler from the team of Lucknow Super Giants, Digvesh Rathi was involved in a verbal and animated celebration when the SRH’s opener Abhishek Sharma got out. In this process, Rathi also broke the rules of the IPL Code of conduct and now the LSG bowler is set to miss the game versus the table topper team of the TATA IPL 2025, the Gujarat Titans. That match between LSG and GT would be played on Thursday, 22nd May 2025 at Shri Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Apart from facing a one match ban, Rathi was also fined 50 percent of his match fees and he even got five demerit points for his violating level three of the IPL code of conduct. Rathi was involved in the verbal spat two more times in this season of the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League. On 1st April 2025 against the team of the Punjab Kings and after few days on April 4th 2025 versus the five time champions team of the Mumbai Indians.
Rathi got one demerit point for indulging against PBKS and two demerit points for his actions against MI. In yesterday’s game, Rathi’s over the top wicket taking celebration had to be stopped by the 2 officiating on feild umpires and the fellow players of the Lucknow Super Giants team. After the incident yesterday, Digvesh Rathi has been charged under the Article 2.5 in the 18th edition of the TATA Indian Premier League 2025 season.
According to the rules and regulations of the IPL Code of Conduct, a bowler cannot use an inappropriate language, action and gesture directly on a batsman who has been dismissed because that can spark an unnecessary controversy and that can also provoke a batter who has been out. Digvesh Rathi has already been fined twice for breaching the same Indian Premier League code of conduct before yesterday’s incident. In match number 13 when Rathi dismissed PBKS’s Priyansh Arya, Digvesh mimicked the act of signing a notebook.
In the 16th game which was played against Mumbai Indians, Rathi again celebrated his signing of the notebook and yesterday Rathi and Sharma were involved in a verbal and animated spat which led to a one match for Rathi and again he was fined with his 50 percent match fees. Abhishek Sharma was also fined 25 percent of his match fees and he got one demerit points after his first offense of breaching the IPL code of conduct.
