Vaibhav Suryavanshi was named the player of the match for his record-breaking century. The 14-year-old not only scored a fantastic century he did so while breaking many records. The left-handed batter reached the triple-figure mark in only 35 balls becoming the second fastest to score a ton in the IPL. In his knock he struck 11 sixes and seven fours. He played with a strike rate of 265.79 and was dismissed only after an unplayable yorker by Prasidh Krishna.
He broke numerous records during his stay at the crease.
He became the youngest to score a century in T20s at the age of 14 years and 32 days.
The second-fastest IPL century reaching in 35 balls.
The fastest IPL century by an Indian.
It was the highest percentage of runs in an IPL ton (93%).
Joint-most sixes by an Indian in an IPL innings (11).
Vaibhav Suryavanshi put on a great show in the pink city as the 14-year-old scored a record-breaking century. Like the previous games, he continued to bat in a blistering manner without paying much heed to the fact that he is facing some of the best bowlers from the world.
He reached his fifty in only 17 balls inside the power play itself where he struck nine boundaries in 20 balls. However, even with the fielders being pushed back to the boundary it did not make any difference. The 14-year-old blasted his way to a century in only 35 balls. It is the second-fasted hundred only after Chris Gayle in the history of the tournament. He struck 11 sixes in the innings to announce his arrival into big stage. It is the joint-most sixes by an Indian batter equalling Murali Vijay’s effort from 2010. His century with a strike rate of 265.79 killed the 210-run chase and finally the moneky was off RR’s back who had failed to close off chases in their last three games.
His powerful knock created such a huge impact that even Yashasvi Jaiswal could only play a supporting role till the time he was at the crease.
It is not often that a batter scores 70 runs in only 40 balls while remaining unbeaten and still end up playing a supporting role. Yashasvi Jaiswal was probably at his best barring that one delivery where he was dropped by his former IPL opening partner, Jos Buttler. During his stay at the crease, Jaiswal smashed nine fours and a couple of sixes.
Shubman Gill carried on with his great form from the previous game. The GT skipper scored 90 in the previous game against his former team, Kolkata Knight Riders. Tonight, even though he once again missed out on a century, Gill’s knock was highly substantial. The right-handed batter scored 84 runs in only 50 balls, striking at 168. He smashed five fours and four sixes. He was dismissed while going for a six and had middled the ball from Maheesh Theekshana but could only find Riyan Parag at long-off. He found the middle of the bat for the better part of the innings and showed why he is one of the best young players currently.
Jos Buttler made his former team pay for letting him go ahead of the mega auction. The right-handed batter, returning to the Sawai Maan Singh Stadium, scored a crucial half-century. The English batter was at his best as he scored 50 runs in only 26 balls. During his stay at the crease, Buttler struck three fours and four sixes.
Death, taxes, and GT top-order firing are the only certainities in life it seems. Once again the troika of Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, and Sai Sudharsan put up a great display of batting. The GT skipper top-scored for the visitors as he made 84 runs in only 50 balls. Former RR player, Buttler remained unbeaten as he struck a hard-hitting fifty as he returned to the Sawai Maan Singh Stadium. While Sudharsan could not get to his fifty even after being dropped once, the left-handed batter with a 39-run knock climbed back to the top of the Orange Cap list.
The RR bowlers appeared to be out of ideas as they faced a solid batting lineup in their own home. Maheesh Theekshana picked up a couple of wickets dismissing the two opening batters. His compatriot, Wanindu Hasaranga too started his spell on a positive note but gave away 24 runs in his fourth over to end on an expensive note. Sandeep Sharma and Jofra Archer too got a wicket each in their last overs.
It was a record-breaking knock from Vaibhav Suryavanshi as the whole nation had its eyes glued to the screens. The 14-year-old batter made everyone at the Sawai Maan Singh Stadium stand up to their feet and applaud the magnificent knock. He scored 101 runs in only 38 balls as he thwarted many of the international bowlers all around the park. His century was the fastest by an Indian in the IPL and the second-fastest only behind Chris Gayle.
On the opposite end, Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeaten and scored 70 runs in only 40 balls but was mostly a supporting act to the incredible batting that was on display from the bat of Suryavanshi. The RR skipper, Riyan Parag coming at the crease scored 32 runs in only 15 balls and remained unbeaten to see of the chase.
