Chris Gayle is no surprise on top of the list for most sixes in the IPL. He is by far the strongest power hitter cricket has ever seen. Gayle’s trademark has been his ability to time the ball with minimum footwork. Playing in RCB for seven seasons was an added advantage. Bangalore’s flat pitch and short boundaries is an assistance, but Gayle was one of the batters who always committed to hitting the ball as far as they can.
Gayle has played far less innings and hit a lot more sixes than anyone else in this list. He also has the record of 17 sixes in an innings in the IPL, which he hit in his innings of 175*(66) against Pune Warriors in 2013.
Rohit Sharma is one of the greatest timers of the ball in cricket history. His ability to connect the ball to the middle of the bat and send it into the stands has been remarkable. Sharma’s trademark shot has been his pull shot. His skill to hit the most sixes by pull shots is second to none. Most of it comes from the power he can generate with sheer timing. Sharma has played as both the middle order batter as well as opener in the IPL.
Rohit Sharma is also leading the chart of most sixes in international cricket. For a batter like Sharma, his longevity and consistency in his batting style has been impressive.
Virat Kohli is one of the batters who doesn’t depend on power but gives more importance to the technique. Kohli is known for his excellent timing and footwork. Throughout his career, Kohli has never been the batter known for hitting long sixes. His main aim while hitting a six is just to clear the boundary rope.
Virat Kohli’s speciality has been playing with a straight bat. He is regarded as one of the modern day great “text-book” batters. Kohli’s style of playing cricket makes his entry on the most sixes list a little more special.

M.S. Dhoni is regarded as one of the greatest finishers of our generation. Throughout his time in CSK, M.S. Dhoni’s role as a batter has been clear. To give a strong finish to his team. Dhoni’s ability to hit right from the first ball has been his strength for CSK. Unlike ODI cricket where he has batted at no. 3 or 4, Dhoni has always been a finisher in T20 cricket. This is mainly due to the way he can take over death bowlers. Dhoni’s unorthodox style of hitting makes it hard for him to set the field. He is known for his powerful shots down the ground in the range of long on to long off, especially his signature helicopter short.
Originally a middle order batter, Ab de Villiers is known for his striking capability. He has been one the most versatile batters in the history of cricket. In T20 cricket, De Villiers can keep the run rate up through the middle overs and attack in the death overs. For RCB, he has turned around the match in the last few overs multiple times.
Commonly known as Mr. 360, De villiers is one of his kind of batters who keeps the capability of hitting any ball to any direction of the ground. He is the master of unconventional shots such as reverse sweep, or scooping a ball that is pitched outside off stump.
Mumbai Indians lead the list of most sixes hit by an IPL team with a total 1681 sixes. The Royal Challengers Bangalore is at close second with 1649 sixes while KKR at third far behind at 1513 sixes.
