When people look back at IPL 2024 they might just see the batting records created by Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, players like Harshal Patel showed that a bowler can still be among the wickets if you can find the right lines and lengths. Punjab Kings’ Harshal was the highest wicket-taker in IPL 2024 with 24 wickets next to his name. In spite of Harshal’s performance, PBKS finished in the ninth position in the points table. Kolkata Knight Riders’ Varun Chakravarthy finished with 21 wickets in the season. The mystery spinner was ranked second on the list for taking the most wickets in IPL 2024. Chakravarthy along with his spin partner, Sunil Narine controlled the middle overs for KKR. Jasprit Bumrah ranked third on this list for most wickets in IPL 2024. It is no surprise that India’s ace pace bowler makes it into the list. Bumrah picked up 20 wickets in 13 matches. While the amount of wickets Bumrah took speaks for themselves it was his economy which made him stand out from the rest. The Indian fast bowler bowled with an economy of 6.48 RPO. KKR’s Andre Russell and Harshit Rana also made it into this list with 19 wickets which shows how the bowlers helped them become IPL champions for the third time.

Yuzvendra Chahal leads the wicket-taking chart in IPL. The leg-spinner has taken the most wickets in the IPL. Chahal has 205 dismissals to his name and in the last season, he became the first player to pick 200 wickets in the league. The 34-year-old also has the most wickets for India in T20Is. In spite of his huge amount of wickets, Chahal has not played a single match for the national team in the T20 World Cups. This shows how the competition within the Indian team is so high that someone of his calibre is benched in World Cups.
Chahal is followed by yet another leg-spinner on this list for the most wickets in IPL. The veteran leg-spinner has picked up 192 wickets in 192 matches. Unlike Chahal, Chawla has also found success in winning the trophy. He was not only part of the KKR team which won in 2014 but also played a big role in the finals. He has picked two four-wicket hauls but hasn’t been able to convert them into fifers. Chawla is expected to play only a few more seasons, in which he would like to pick as many wickets as possible to retain his position on this table.
Dwayne Bravo is the first overseas player to make it into the list for most wickets in IPL. Bravo has 183 wickets to his name. Unlike many bowlers on this, Bravo had redefined himself as a specialist death bowler. The West Indian legend would often apply the brakes in the death overs along with picking wickets of some of the best finishers. He played a big role in CSK’s three titles. Bravo not only is one of the highest wicket-takers but is also a very handy batter. He is one of the only three bowlers who have won the purple cap twice. He was the first to do so when he won the award in 2013 and 2015.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar ranks fourth on this list for taking the most wickets in IPL. Kumar burst onto the scene as someone who could swing the ball both ways thanks to his great wrist position. Kumar has picked 181 wickets and would be looking to not only overtake Dwayne Bravo but also Piyush Chawla. The Indian bowler too has won the purple cap twice and is the only player to do so consecutively in 2016 and 2017. Kumar’s purple cap-winning performance in 2016 also helped SRH to become champions.
Sunil Narine with 180 wickets has possibly been the first mystery spinner in IPL. Since his debut for KKR, Narine has been one of the most fearsome bowlers. In his debut season, Narine picked 24 wickets as KKR won the trophy for the first time. In the 2014 season as well, Narine was among the wickets as KKR won the trophy again. In 2024, during KKR’s third successful campaign, it was not only his bowling but batting which led to KKR winning the trophy. The West Indian spinner has never won the purple cap but thanks to his newfound hard-hitting prowess has won the Most Valuable Player award the most times.
Yuzvendra Chahal has taken the most wickets in the IPL for Indian players. Chahal has picked up 205 wickets playing for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals. Veteran leg-spinner, Piyush Chawla has the second-most wickets in the IPL for Indians. Chawla has picked up 192 wickets but has never won the Purple Cap award. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is in the third position. Kumar has picked up 181 wickets which is the most for any Indian pacer. Ravichandran Ashwin ranks fourth with 180 wickets while Amit Mishra is positioned fifth. India’s finest bowler in present times, Jasprit Bumrah with 165 wickets is ranked sixth and would definitely want to overtake a few of these players.
