The five-time champions, after a disappointing season, have ended their campaign on a high note. Facing the table-toppers, the Super Kings outperformed the hosts in all departments. After setting up a target of 231 runs, CSK picked up crucial wickets up front and totally killed off the chase. They ended up winning the match by 83 runs.
Gujarat Titans score 106/6 in 13 overs. Need 125 runs in 42 balls. Tewatia: 7* (6), Coetzee: 1* (1)
Rashid Khan started the over by going big against his compatriot in the 13th over. He struck a six off the first ball from Noor Ahmad. However, it was Noor who had the last laugh as he dismissed him on the fifth ball of the over.
Gujarat Titans score 86/5 in 11 overs. Need 145 runs in 54 balls. Tewatia: 1* (1), Rashid: 0* (2)
Ravindra Jadeja has bowled a great over to put a massive dent in GT’s batting unit. A juggling catch from Matheesha Pathirana resulted in Shahrukh’s wicket on the first ball of the 11th over. Sai Sudharsan was dismissed on the fourth ball which has put to bed any chances that the Titans had to chase this target.
Gujarat Titans score 85/3 in 10 overs. Need 146 runs in 60 balls. Sudharsan: 41* (26), Shahrukh: 19* (14)
Sai Sudharsan welcomed Shivam Dube in his second over with a couple of fours. The left-handed batter was a bit lucky on the first ball as a misfield allowed the ball to go to the fence. Dube’s misery did not end as he was once again smashed for a six by Shahrukh. It was the most expensive over as the medium-pacer conceded 18 runs.
Gujarat Titans score 59/3 in 8 overs. Need 172 runs in 72 balls. Sudharsan: 24* (19), Shahrukh: 10* (9)
Shivam Dube, for the first time in this season, came on to bowl. The right-arm medium pacer bowled a wayward over. After giving away only two runs off the first three balls, he sprayed one down the leg side, which went for a four. He was struck for a six on the fifth ball of the over by Shahrukh Khan.
Gujarat Titans score 44/3 in 7 overs. Need 187 runs in 78 balls. Sudharsan: 22* (16), Shahrukh: 2* (6)
Ravindra Jadeja came back into the attack after bowling the first over of the innings right after the power play. Sai Sudharsan struck a four off the third ball of the over while the remaining five balls went for singles.
Gujarat Titans score 30/3 in 5 overs. Need 201 runs in 15 overs. Sudharsan: 11* (7), Shahrukh: 0* (3)
For the third over in a row, Chennai Super Kings have picked up a wicket. Anshul Kamboj, bowling his second over, got the better of Sherfane Rutherford. The West Indian batter was dismissed for a four-ball duck.
Gujarat Titans score 29/2 in 4 overs. Need 202 runs in 16 overs. Sudharsan: 10* (6), Rutherford: 0* (2)
Jos Buttler, playing his last game of this season, has been dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed for a single-digit score. Like his skipper, the English batter was charging down the wicket but sliced the ball to Anshul Kamboj.
It seems that once again, the GT middle-order would have to do the heavy lifting. Apart from the previous game, batters apart from Gill, Buttler, and Sudharsan have not done much batting.
Gujarat Titans score 27/1 in 3 overs. Need 204 runs in 17 overs. Sudharsan: 10* (6), Buttler: 3* (3)
Shubman Gill has to depart early in the innings. Gujarat Titans have lost their skipper and the second-highest run-getter in the third over itself. Gill had struck a six on the second ball from Anshul Kamboj while charging down the pitch. He danced down the wicket once again, but a hint of outward movement caught the outside edge of the right-hander’s bat.
Gujarat Titans score 18/0 in 2 overs. Need 213 runs in 18 overs. Sudharsan: 10* (6), Gill: 7* (6)
Khaleel Ahmed came on to bowl the second over and was welcomed with a four by Sai Sudharsan on the first ball. Shubman Gill, too, got his first boundary of the innings against Khaleel in the same over.
Gujarat Titans score 7/0 in 1 over. Need 224 runs in 19 overs. Sudharsan: 5* (4), Gill: 2* (2)
It is not Khaleel Ahmed who took the new ball for Chennai Super Kings. It was the left-arm spinner, Ravindra Jadeja, who bowled the first over of the second innings. It was a quiet boundary-less over from the spinner. Only seven runs came off the first over.
The Gujarat Titans would need to bat out of their skins after the bowlers had a second off night in a row. Chennai Super Kings’ batters in the extreme heat made the GT bowlers pay for their inaccurate bowling across the 20 overs. It was a great start to the innings from Ayush Mhatre before Devon Conway scored his second fifty of the season. However, the star performer for the Super Kings was Dewald Brevis. The South African batter played a blinder of a knock and scored a fifty off 19 deliveries. This was the second quickest fifty for CSK in their history.
Chennai Super Kings are at 173/4 after 16 overs. Brevis: 15* (8), Jadeja: 7* (9)
Rashid Khan, in spite of picking up a wicket, has completed an ordinary spell. The Afghan spinner conceded 42 runs in his four overs while picking up Conway’s scalp.
Chennai Super Kings are at 158/4 after 14 overs. Brevis: 6* (3), Jadeja: 1* (2)
Devon Conway played a superb shot down the ground to reach his second fifty of the season. However, the Kiwi batter was dismissed on the very next ball with Rashid rattling the stumps.
Chennai Super Kings are at 150/3 after 13 overs. Conway: 46* (32), Brevis: 5* (2)
Gill turned to part-time off-spin of Shahrukh Khan with two left-handed batters at the crease. He was struck for a six on his second ball but responded quickly and strongly by picking up Shivam Dube’s wicket on the very next ball. Dewald Brevis opened his account with a four off the first ball as he received a full toss from Shahrukh.
Chennai Super Kings are at 137/2 after 12 overs. Conway: 44* (30), Dube: 11* (6)
Rashid Khan came back into the attack and replaced Sai Kishore into the attack. The right-arm leg spinner was struck for a six on the second ball of the over by Devon Conway. It turned out to be an expensive over as the Kiwi batter accessed the offside boundary to fetch him his sixth four of the knock.
Chennai Super Kings are at 115/2 after 10 overs. Conway: 27* (21), Dube: 7* (3)
Sai Kishore has finally broken the second-wicket partnership thanks to a sharp catch by skipper Shubman Gill. Like Mhatre, Urvil Patel was looking to take on the attack and was caught at cover. It was a vital breakthrough for the hosts. Meanwhile, there is no respite for the Titans, as Shivam Dube struck a six on only his second delivery.
Chennai Super Kings are at 101/1 after 9 overs. Conway: 26* (20), Urvil: 31* (17)
Gill turned to spinners after his pacers went for runs in the first seven overs. The move did not pay off as both Sai Kishore and Rashid Khan could not curtail the rate of scoring and conceded 19 runs in their two overs.
Chennai Super Kings are at 82/1 after 7 overs. Conway: 18* (13), Urvil: 20* (12)
There is no stopping Chennai Super Kings. Even after the power play, both Devon Conway and Urvil Patel have been smashing the GT bowlers to the boundary fence. Gerald Coetzee, bowling his first over was struck for a four by Devon Conway before Urvil Patel hit him for two more fours on the trot to end the seventh over.
Chennai Super Kings are at 68/1 after 6 overs. Conway: 14* (11), Urvil: 11* (8)
Prasidh Krishna came on to bowl the final over of the power play. He conceded 11 runs in the over. After scoring 44 runs in the first three overs, the Super Kings ended the power play on a strong note. 24 runs were scored in the last three overs of the restrictions.
Chennai Super Kings are at 46/1 after 4 overs. Conway: 9* (6), Urvil: 1* (1)
Prasidh Krishna was introduced into the attack pretty early in the innings. He started the over brilliantly with three dots against Mhatre. The pressure built on the 17-year-old resulted in a false shot, which brought about his dismissal.
The right-arm pacer came on to bowl the fourth over after the first three went for 44 runs. It was a great call by captain Shubman Gill to bring his best bowler of the season to bowl.
Chennai Super Kings are at 34/0 after 2 overs. Mhatre: 33* (12), Conway: 0* (0)
Arshad Khan, bowling his first over, did not find any swing in the air. However, he faced the wrath of Mhatra and was struck for a couple of sixes off both the front foot and the back foot. He was smashed for two fours on the trot after two sixes. The right-handed batter struck a six to end the over with five boundaries in successive deliveries.
Chennai Super Kings are at 6/0 after 1 over. Mhatre: 6* (6), Conway: 0* (0)
Ayush Mhatre, after facing three dots, opened his account against Mohammed Siraj with a four down the ground.
CSK won the toss and elected to bat first at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Ayush Mhatre, Devon Conway, Urvil Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Dewald Brevis, Shivam Dube, Deepak Hooda, MS Dhoni (C and wk), Noor Ahmad, Anshul Kamboj, Khaleel Ahmed
Both the Gujarat Titans and the Chennai Super Kings are coming into this clash after losing their respective games. However, there might not be any wholesale changes for the finalists of the 2023 IPL. GT could replace Kagiso Rabada, who had looked pretty off colour since his return in the two games. He could be replaced with his compatriot, Gerald Coetzee. CSK could make some changes to their bowling lineup. Youngsters like Kamlesh Nagarkoti could be given a chance to play instead of another pacer.
Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (C), Jos Buttler (wk), Sherfane Rutherford, Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Arshad Khan, Gerald Coetzee, Sai Kishore, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna
