Mumbai Indians are through to Qualifier 2, and they have got some of their out-of-form players back in touch. The match was set up beautifully by Rohit Sharma in the first innings with a knock of 81 runs. With the ball in hand, it was none other than Jasprit Bumrah who created the most impact. While the Indian pacer only managed to pick up a single wicket, it was his spell that won the game for his team. GT managed to score only 27 runs in his four overs in a clash where they were chasing 229.
Gujarat Titans are at 184/4 in 16 overs. Need 45 runs in 18 balls. Rutherford: 22* (11), Tewatia: 8* (6)
For the third time in as many overs, Ashwani Kumar started his over cheaply. The young left-arm pacer gave away only five runs off the first four balls. Once again, like his previous two overs, he could not close out the over for his side. Rahul Tewatia struck a four on the fifth ball of the over.
Gujarat Titans are at 175/4 in 16 overs. Need 54 runs in 24 balls. Rutherford: 21* (10), Tewatia: 1* (1)
Sherfane Rutherford has got off to a flying start here. The left-handed batter played a gentle dab to find the gap behind square on the off side on the first delivery. The very next ball, he found the gap on the leg-side to his second four. However, Richard Gleeson, who was on the receiving end, bounced back with the crucial wicket of Sudharsan. The left-handed batter was attempting to play a scoop on a full-toss but missed the ball and lost his stumps.
Gujarat Titans are at 161/3 in 15 overs. Need 68 runs in 30 balls. Sudharsan: 81* (48), Rutherford: 8* (6)
Ashwani Kumar once again started his over on a great note, in spite of bowling a couple of full tosses. The left-arm pacer conceded four runs off the first four balls before serving up a juicy full-length delivery that was chipped over the mid-off fielder for a four by Sherfane Rutherford.
Gujarat Titans are at 152/3 in 14 overs. Need 77 runs in 36 balls. Sudharsan: 79* (46), Rutherford: 1* (2)
With the game hanging in the balance, Hardik Pandya has turned to Jasprit Bumrah. The right-arm pacer bowled a perfect yorker to break the stand and floored Washington Sundar. Once again, it is Bumrah who has possibly turned the game on its head.
Gujarat Titans are at 148/2 in 13 overs. Need 81 runs in 42 balls. Sudharsan: 77* (44), Sundar: 47* (22)
Trent Boult came back into the attack and has once again started the over on a great note. Only a solitary run had come off the first three balls; however, Boult served up a short-pitched delivery before bowling a fuller-length delivery. Both balls were deposited into the stands by Sundar. The last ball of the over was also struck for a four as GT got the asking rate to only 11.57 runs per over.
Gujarat Titans are at 130/2 in 12 overs. Need 99 runs in 48 balls. Sudharsan: 76* (42), Sundar: 31* (18)
Ashwani Kumar came on to bowl the 12th over after making his way into the game as an impact sub. The left-arm pacer bowled with mixed speeds to keep the batters guessing. He had conceded only seven runs off the first five balls, but Sundar struck a four to end the over.
Gujarat Titans are at 119/2 in 11 overs. Need 110 runs in 54 balls. Sudharsan: 70* (38), Sundar: 26* (16)
Hardik Pandya continued his spell and returned to bowl his third over. The right-arm seamer erred on length and gave a full toss which was struck down the ground by Washington Sundar for a four. Gujarat Titans are at 106/2 in 10 overs. Need 123 runs in 60 balls. Sudharsan: 67* (36), Sundar: 16* (12)

Gujarat Titans are at 95/2 in 9 overs. Need 134 runs in 66 balls. Sudharsan: 61* (33), Sundar: 11* (9)
Washington Sundar needs to play a supporting role here at least to make sure that Sudharsan does not have to lift the side all alone on his shoulders. Sundar hit his first boundary in the ninth over as Hardik Pandya returned into the attack.
Gujarat Titans are at 85/2 in 8 overs. Need 144 runs in 72 balls. Sudharsan: 59* (31), Sundar: 3* (5)

Gujarat Titans are at 76/2 in 7 overs. Need 153 runs in 13 overs. Sudharsan: 52* (28), Sundar: 1* (2)
Right after the power play, Mitchell Santner came into the attack and dismissed Kusal Mendis. It was an unlucky dismissal for the Sri Lankan batter as his back foot slipped to make contact with the stumps. Meanwhile, Sudharsan ended the over with a couple of fours to reach a 28-ball fifty.
Gujarat Titans are at 66/1 in 6 overs. Need 163 runs in 14 overs. Sudharsan: 43* (25), Mendis: 20* (9)
A rare full toss from Jasprit Bumrah was flicked for a four by Sudharsan off the first ball of the sixth over. After the last three overs went for 46 runs, Hardik had to turn to his best bowler. Bumrah was unable to curtail the left-handed batter and was struck for another boundary in the over by him.
Gujarat Titans are at 55/1 in 5 overs. Need 174 runs in 15 overs. Sudharsan: 32* (19), Mendis: 20* (9)
In spite of the mammoth score in front of him, Sudharsan is standing tall. The left-handed batter smashed a couple of fours in a row in the fourth over against Hardik Pandya. Both boundaries came off classical shots, before Kusal Mendis played an uppercut for a four to end another great over for the Titans.

Gujarat Titans are at 9/1 in 2 overs. Need 220 runs in 18 overs. Sudharsan: 5* (6), Mendis: 2* (4)
Like his bowling partner, Jasprit Bumrah, also found movement in the air. The right-arm pacer was on the money with his first ball that seamed away from Sai Sudharsan. He bowled a great first over, giving away only four runs.
Gujarat Titans are at 5/1 in 1 over. Need 224 runs in 19 overs. Sudharsan: 2* (2), Mendis: 2* (2)
With Deepak Chahar missing the game, Trent Boult took the new ball in hand and bowled the first over. The left-arm pacer got the ball to jag back into Shubman Gill, who was trapped in front of the wickets. It was a traditional start for Boult as the Kiwi pacer picked up a wicket in the very first over.
The Mumbai Indians, led by Rohit Sharma with the bat in hand, put on a show in the first innings. Jonny Bairstow, along with Rohit, provided a great start to the innings. While the English batter was dismissed after the power play, his batting partner remained unbeaten for a while and took the aggressive role. It was a great knock from the former MI skipper as he scored 81 runs in only 50 balls. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, too, played a couple of pretty handy cameos for the five-time champions to ensure that the rate of scoring does not dip. Hardik Pandya, playing against his former franchise, struck three sixes in the final over to power them to a score of 228 runs.
Mumbai Indians are at 188/3 after 17 overs. Tilak: 19* (9), Pandya: 1* (1)
Tilak Varma, who had been a bit quiet in the last few games, has got a great start. The left-handed batter, after hitting his first six in the previous over, started the 17th over from Prasidh Krishna with a six as well. Krishna finally got his first wicket of the match with a slower ball that did not even cross the 100 kmph mark. He dismissed Rohit Sharma, who was looking in fine touch and eyeing a ton.
Mumbai Indians are at 175/2 after 16 overs. Rohit: 81* (48), Tilak: 11* (6)
Rohit Sharma is eyeing a century here. The right-handed batter has not let the GT bowlers settle down after Surya’s wicket and has smashed a boundary each in the next three overs. Gerald Coetzee was welcomed with a flick shot for a six. The South African pacer’s misery continued as Tilak Varma too smashed a six in the over.
Mumbai Indians are at 160/2 after 15 overs. Rohit: 74* (45), Tilak: 3* (3)
Rashid Khan, like Sundar, started the 15th over economically. Only four runs were scored off the first four deliveries. However, Rohit Sharma struck a six to destroy the Afghan spinner’s figures, who finished his spell without a wicket.
Mumbai Indians are at 150/2 after 14 overs. Rohit: 66* (41), Tilak: 1* (1)
Washington Sundar, after picking up a catch in the previous over, has been handed the ball. The right-arm off-spinner started the over pretty nicely, giving away only a couple of runs off the first four balls. However, some width was offered to Rohit on the fifth ball as he struck his ninth four of the match.
Mumbai Indians are at 143/2 after 13 overs. Rohit: 60* (36)
Suryakumar Yadav continued to carry on with his form. Once again, for the 15th time in the season, the right-handed batter went past the 25-run mark. However, Sai Kishore struck back with the wicket of SKY as Washington Sundar completed a catch, something which has been a rarity tonight for the Titans.
Mumbai Indians are at 134/1 after 12 overs. Rohit: 58* (34), Suryakumar: 26* (16)
Gerald Coetzee, after dropping one of the easiest catches, is brought into the attack to bowl the 11th over. The South African pacer could not redeem himself as he was struck for a couple of sixes in his first over by Suryakumar Yadav. On the very next delivery, Coetzee has induced an outside edge from Suryakumar, but wicketkeeper Mendis dropped his second catch of the match.
Mumbai Indians are at 113/1 after 10 overs. Rohit: 56* (31), Suryakumar: 7* (7)
Rohit Sharma brought up a 28-ball half-century with a four off the first ball of the 10th over. The right-handed batter once again got lucky as a top edge fell in no-man’s land. He ended the over with another four as MI continues to march along for a huge score.
Mumbai Indians are at 101/1 after 9 overs. Rohit: 46* (27), Suryakumar: 5* (5)
Rohit Sharma has become only the second player to have scored 7,000 runs in the IPL. The right-handed batter reached the milestone in the ninth over with a four and a six against Rashid Khan. He also smashed his 300th six in the Indian Premier League.
Mumbai Indians are at 89/1 after 8 overs. Rohit: 35* (23), Suryakumar: 4* (3)
Finally, some luck goes with the Titans. Sai Kishore broke the opening stand thanks to a combined catch from Sai Sudharsan and Gerald Coetzee. Sudharsan, diving to his left, parried the ball in the air, and Coetzee, standing next to him, completed the catch.
Mumbai Indians are at 82/0 after 7 overs. Rohit: 34* (22), Bairstow: 45* (20)

Mumbai Indians are at 79/0 after 6 overs. Rohit: 33* (19), Bairstow: 44* (17)
Shubman Gill turned to Sai Kishore for the last over of the power play as his two pacers were smashed to different parts of the ground. The left-arm spinner started the over with a couple of dots to Rohit Sharma. However, the veteran right-handed batter bounced back strongly and smashed a couple of fours and a six to make it a huge over for the five-time champions.
Mumbai Indians are at 65/0 after 5 overs. Rohit: 19* (13), Bairstow: 44* (17)
Mohammed Siraj was given a third over in the power play in an attempt to break the stand. However, the move did not work in GT’s favour as the right-arm pacer was hit for a four each by the two MI batters.
Mumbai Indians are at 54/0 after 4 overs. Rohit: 13* (10), Bairstow: 39* (14)
Jonny Bairstow has announced his arrival in IPL 2025 in some style. The English batter struck a six and a four on the first two balls of the fourth over. Krishna, who had been pretty economical throughout the season, has been taken to the cleaners by the wicketkeeper batter. Rohit’s luck rubbed off on Bairstow as an outside edge went above the third man boundary. On the following delivery, the 35-year-old batter struck a huge blow down the ground to get his third six of the over. The over ended with another edge going to the boundary cushion.
Mumbai Indians are at 28/0 after 3 overs. Rohit: 13* (10), Bairstow: 13* (8)
To make matters worse for the Titans, Rohit, after being dropped in the previous over, smashed a couple of fours to welcome Siraj in his second over. The former MI skipper continued to ride his luck and was dropped once again. The right-handed batter charged down the pitch and edged one behind to the keeper, Kusal Mendis, who dropped the catch.
Mumbai Indians are at 18/0 after 2 overs. Rohit: 4* (5), Bairstow: 12* (7)
With no Arshad Khan in the playing XI, Shubman Gill turned to Prasidh Krishna to bowl with the new ball. The right-arm pacer was welcomed with a four off the first ball of the second over. It was Jonny Bairstow who smashed his first boundary of the season. Thanks to some rain in the morning at the venue, the outfield is quite slow, which has already stopped the MI batters from scoring a few boundaries. Gerald Coetzee, on the fifth ball of the over, dropped one of the easiest catches of his life to give Rohit a second life.
Mumbai Indians are at 6/0 after 1 over. Rohit: 3* (4), Bairstow: 3* (2)
Unlike yesterday’s clash, it has been a mundane start to the game with no wickets falling in the first over. In spite of beating the fielder a few times in the over, both Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow could not hit a single boundary in the over.
MI won the toss and elected to bat first at the Maharaja Yadavindra Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.
Shubman Gill (C), Sai Sudharsan, Kusal Mendis (wk), Shahrukh Khan, Washington Sundar, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Gerald Coetzee, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna

Both Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians would have to make a few changes to their teams with a few international players leaving for national duty. For GT, Jos Buttler and Kagiso Rabada will be missing the playoffs. Rabada had been off-colour since his return to the side after his one-month ban. However, Buttler will be a huge miss for the 2022 champions. Kusal Mendis was named his replacement and could get into the playing XII straightaway and take the gloves as well. Even though Mendis could bat in the top-order like Buttler, he has yet to reach the heights of the performances by the Englishman in the IPL. As their bowling unit has been taken apart in the last few clashes, Washington Sundar could come into the team as well, which could increase the batting depth.
For Mumbai Indians, Ryan Rickelton, Will Jacks, and Corbin Bosch will be missing the clash. Rickelton would be replaced straightaway by Jonny Bairstow. The English wicketkeeper batter is one of the most experienced batters, having played in the IPL as well. He would don the gloves as well for the Hardik Pandya-led side. Meanwhile, replacing Will Jacks will not be such a straightforward task. Jacks was a pretty handy off-spinner against the left-handed batters this season. He had a few decent performances with the bat in hand as well. It could be a toss-up between Charith Asalanka and Bevon Jacobs to take Jacks place in the playing XII. Asalanka could be an additional bowling option as well for Pandya’s MI. With Jacks gone, both Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma could move a spot above in the batting order.
