Chennai Super Kings have finally bounced back to winning ways. The visitors with this win have knocked out the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, from the race to the playoffs. In spite of picking up five wickets in the power play, KKR could not make inroads into the CSK lower order. Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube stitched together a match-winning stand. The South African batter proved to be the difference between a win and a loss by scoring 30 runs in the 11th over from Vaibhav Arora. The game turned on its head from that point forward.
While Brevis was dismissed soon after reaching the half-century, Shivam Dube remained at the crease for long enough time to almost seal the win for his side.
Chennai Super Kings are at 147/6 after 16 overs. Need 33 runs in 24 balls. Dube: 29* (30), Dhoni: 5* (9)
Andre Russell was introduced into the attack to bowl the 16th over. He gave away only seven runs in the over, but it is the wickets that KKR seek at the moment.
Chennai Super Kings are at 140/6 after 15 overs. Need 40 runs in 30 balls. Dube: 24* (27), Dhoni: 3* (6)
Harshit Rana impressed with his death bowling in the previous game against the Rajasthan Royals. The pacer, coming back into the attack, resulted in the breaking of shackles. Shivam Dube struck a six over the long–off boundary on the fifth ball of the over.
Chennai Super Kings are at 132/6 after 14 overs. Need 48 runs in 36 balls. Dube: 17* (23), Dhoni: 2* (4)
The pair of MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube is batting pretty conservatively. Only three runs were scored in the 14th over. However, the big positive for CSK is that both Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy have bowled out their eight overs.
Chennai Super Kings are at 129/6 after 13 overs. Need 51 runs in 42 balls. Dube: 15* (19), Dhoni: 1* (2)
Varun Chakravarthy has provided a timely wicket at the best time possible for the hosts. Bowling his last over, the Indian mystery spinner dismissed Dewald Brevis on the first ball of the 13th over. The only way for KKR to win this game would be to get CSK all out. However, with all the experience of MS Dhoni at the crease, CSK remain firm favourites to win the game.
Chennai Super Kings are at 127/5 after 12 overs. Need 53 runs in 48 balls. Brevis: 52* (24), Dube: 14* (16)
Shivam Dube is struggling to time the ball on the opposite end. However, one would feel that Dewald Brevis scoring 30 runs off the 11th over has probably won the clash and knocked out KKR from the race to the playoffs.
Chennai Super Kings are at 123/5 after 11 overs. Need 57 runs in 54 balls. Brevis: 50* (22), Dube: 12* (12)
Ajinkya Rahane’s decision to bring Vaibhav Arora back into the attack has not worked at all for the hosts. The right-arm pacer was smashed for a six with Angkrish Raghuvanshi misjudging a simple catch at long-off. On the very next delivery, Brevis flicked a legside delivery for a boundary. The next three balls came to Brevis as full tosses, and he was smashed for two sixes and a four. The last ball was a short-pitched delivery, and another boundary meant that the South African batter reached his fifty in 22 balls.

Chennai Super Kings are at 88/5 after 9 overs. Need 92 runs in 66 balls. Brevis: 19* (12), Dube: 9* (10)
Sunil Narine has struggled to pitch the ball up to the CSK batters. In both overs, the West Indian spinner has been guilty of bowling a few short deliveries. Brevis was provided with an opportunity to smash a six on a similar short delivery. He struck the ball firmly and broke the shackles after a cheap over from Chakravarthy.
Chennai Super Kings are at 79/5 after 8 overs. Need 101 runs in 72 balls. Brevis: 11* (8), Dube: 8* (8)
Varun Chakravarthy pulled things back for the hosts after an expensive over from Sunil Narine. The asking rate is now close to eight and a half runs per over. Only five runs came off Chakravarthy’s over. He would need some support from the opposite end to apply pressure on the two CSK batters.
Chennai Super Kings are at 74/5 after 7 overs. Need 106 runs in 78 balls. Brevis: 8* (5), Dube: 6* (5)

Chennai Super Kings are at 56/4 after 5 overs. Need 124 runs in 15 overs. Jadeja: 15* (8)
The rate of scoring for the Chennai Super Kings has been soaring high. If not for the three wickets they lost in the power play, the visitors would be pretty ahead of the game at this point in time. Ravindra Jadeja is playing with positive intent. He smashed a six and four in the fifth over against Rana. However, once again, the power hitting from the five-time champions has come at a cost.
Chennai Super Kings are at 37/3 after 3 overs. Need 143 runs in 17 overs. Ashwin: 4* (3)
Ravichandran Ashwin was promoted in the batting order, coming to bat at number four. He struck his first boundary in the third over, welcoming Harshit Rana into the attack. Meanwhile, Urvil Patel continued to bat aggressively and struck his fourth six of the innings on the fifth ball of the over. However, Rana came back strongly to pick up the third wicket in as many overs.

Moeen Ali came on to bowl the second over, and he was taken to the cleaners by Urvil Patel on the first two balls of the over. The right-arm off-spinner was struck for a couple of sixes and a four. However, once the left-handed batter, Devon Conway, came to the crease, the positive match-up worked in the favour of the hosts. Moeen rattled the stumps, dismissing the Kiwi batter for a silver duck.

The Kolkata Knight Riders could not breach the 180-run mark with the last over going for only six singles. It will be a tough ask from the Super Kings on a pitch that is assisting the spin bowlers. Noor Ahmad was the star performer for the visitors. The left-arm wrist spinner picked up four wickets in his spell and made full use of the helpful conditions in Kolkata. For KKR, no batter could get a huge score, with Ajinkya Rahane top-scoring with 48 runs.
Kolkata Knight Riders are at 149/5 after 17 overs. Manish: 20* (20)
Noor Ahmad was brought into the attack to bowl his third over to possibly dismiss Andre Russell. However, the move worked in the visitors’ favour as the 37-year-old was dismissed on the final ball of the over after hitting a four and a six in the over.
Kolkata Knight Riders are at 138/4 after 16 overs. Manish: 20* (19), Russell: 28* (16)

Kolkata Knight Riders are at 124/4 after 15 overs. Manish: 17* (17), Russell: 18* (12)

Kolkata Knight Riders are at 103/4 after 13 overs. Manish: 14* (13), Russell: 0* (4)
MS Dhoni persisted with Ravindra Jadeja for another over after he was hit for a six in the previous over. The left-arm spinner avenged the shot by picking up Ajinkya Rahane in his very next over. Andre Russell came to bat at number six and once again has started tentatively against the spin bowlers.
Kolkata Knight Riders are at 97/3 after 11 overs. Rahane: 46* (29), Manish: 11* (9)
The 11th over from Ravindra Jadeja has broken the shackles. The first ball of the over was smashed for a six by Ajinkya Rahane, and he is nearing a half-century.
Kolkata Knight Riders are at 87/3 after 10 overs. Rahane: 38* (25), Manish: 9* (7)
The scoring rate continues to dip further for the hosts. They are yet to smash a boundary after the power play. Both Rahane and Manish Pandey need to step on the accelerator pedal sooner rather than later.
Kolkata Knight Riders are at 80/9 after 9 overs. Rahane: 35* (22), Manish: 5* (4)
The CSK spinners have put on a chokehold on the hosts. Since the end of the power play, only 13 runs have been scored in three overs by the three spinners.

Kolkata Knight Riders are at 69/1 after 7 overs. Narine: 26* (16), Rahane: 30* (17)
Ravichandran Ashwin has bounced back strongly after conceding 14 runs in his first over. Only two singles came off his second over with some protection after the power play restrictions were lifted.
Kolkata Knight Riders are at 67/1 after 6 overs. Narine: 25* (13), Rahane: 29* (14)
The hosts have ended the power play on a high note. Kamboj, bowling his third, came to bowl the sixth over and was taken for 17 runs. Rahane smashed him for a six and four on the first two balls before Narine too hit a boundary.
Kolkata Knight Riders are at 50/1 after 5 overs. Narine: 20* (11), Rahane: 17* (10)

Kolkata Knight Riders are at 5/0 after 1 over. Gurbaz: 5* (6), Narine: 0* (0)
Khaleel Ahmed endured a tough night at the hands of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the previous game. He was struck for a four on the first ball but came back strongly, giving away only a single run in the next five balls.
KKR won the toss and elected to bat first at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

There are no injury concerns in both camps, but a few changes could be expected from Dhoni’s CSK. Urvil Patel was added to the squad, replacing Vansh Bedi. Given that the five-time champions are already preparing for the next season, Patel could feature in the lineup straightaway.
