With 35 runs to play with the Indian bowlers walked on to The Oval ground with a spring in their feet. Even though Prasidh Krishna’s incomplete over from the previous day went for a couple of fours it all changed in the next few overs. Mohammed Siraj was the game changer for India. The right-arm pacer followed up his inspired spell from the previous night and was rewarded with a couple of wickets. It was Prasidh Krishna who took the ninth wicket which saw an injured Chris Woakes coming on the field. With seven runs needed Siraj bowled a perfect yorker to level the series.
The final day of a five-match series is upon the fans, with the series still hanging in balance. Even though the best result possible for India here would be to avoid a defeat, they will take it with both hands, given the position they were in yesterday when Joe Root and Harry Brook were batting.
Thankfully for the fans in London and the millions who have been glued to their screens for the past five days, the chances of rain making an interruption are minimal during the opening hours of the day.
Given the number of runs required for England to win, an hour might be enough for them to win the game. Meanwhile, India would need to pick up the remaining four wickets as soon as possible. It will be a cloudy day in London, which means the overhead conditions could suit the bowling side. However, the pitch could prove to be an enemy for the visitors as England would, in all likelihood would opt for a heavy roller, making things easier for the batters.
A session ago, England seemed to have won this match very easily, but the Indian bowlers, by taking two wickets, have once again forced England to think whether they will be able to win this match easily. Prasidh Krishna has once again raised hopes for India by bowling brilliantly and taking two wickets. However, due to the rain, the last session could not be completed today, and today's game had to be ended midway. At the end of day four, England scored 339 for the loss of 6 wickets. They still need 35 runs to win the match, and India needs four wickets to win (three if Chris Woakes won't bat).
Where once it seemed that England was going to win this match easily, Prasidh Krishna has done something such that we will have to think again about who is going to be the winner of this match. He bowled out Jacob in the fourth game of the 71st over. Jacob Bethell tried to get rid of the ball and played a careless shot. While trying to smash it over the covers, the ball hit the middle stump. The middle stump got uprooted from the ground. With this, Jacob Bethell's 5-run off 31-ball innings came to an end. Bethell's struggles were over, and Jamie Smith came in to bat next.
England had just recovered from Jacob's wicket when Krishna changed the momentum of the match once again by dismissing Joe Root in his very next over. It was a short-length ball outside of stump, which Root pushed away from the body, and the ball moved away from the pitch. The ball got a thick edge, which bounced to the keeper, but Jurel made no mistake. Two quick wickets, and now India has a little more hope. With this, Joe Root's innings of 105 runs in 152 balls has ended, in which he also hit 12 fours.
Joe Root's magic continues in the last innings of this series as well. He completed his 39th Test century by taking two runs on the first ball of his 69th over. With this, he has reached the fourth position among those who have scored the most centuries in the history of Test cricket. He has left behind Kumar Sangakkara's record of 38 centuries. Now only Sachin Tendulkar (51), Jacques Kallis (45) and Ricky Ponting (41) are ahead of him. As he turned the ball towards long leg, chants of "Root" echoed around the field. He took off his helmet and raised his bat towards the dressing room. He then took out a headband, wore it and paid tribute to Graham Thorpe. It was a heartfelt dedication and a lovely gesture. Joe Root's parents were also present and cheered him on. Certainly, Joe Root has established himself as one of the greatest players in Test history.
At tea break on day four, England were at 317 with the loss of 4 wickets. They now need only 57 runs to win from here. India stands on the brink of defeat here. Many dropped catches and wrong running strategies seem to be costing them heavily in this match. On the other hand, an easy victory seems possible for England. Joe Root is very close to scoring another century and is playing at 98 runs off 135 balls, while Jacob Bethell, who has just come in for batting, is playing at one run off 11 balls. From here on, it doesn't seem that any miracle will happen, and Team India will be able to make a comeback in this match. Now, to save its reputation from here, India must take some wickets and lose the match with respect. However, now it seems that England will take a few overs to finish this match.
Just before the tea break, the Indian team finally succeeded in getting Harry Brook out, but now it seems that this match has gone very far from India. India broke this partnership, but it looks too late for India now. A little wide on off stump, Brook moves forward and gives himself room. He looks to hit the ball over the covers, but slices through. His bat went to the leg side while the ball went to the off side. Siraj went to his left at mid-off and this time took an easy catch. Brook was given a standing ovation. His innings has put the match in England's favour. With this, Harry Brook's innings of 111 runs in 98 balls ended, in which he hit 14 fours and two sixes. Joe Root and Harry Brook have made a partnership of 195 runs, due to which the whole course of the match has changed, and England is very close to winning this match.
Harry Brook has hit a brilliant century by taking two runs on the fifth ball of the 61st over. His century came in just 91 balls, which shows what kind of tremendous batting he has done against India in this innings. Everyone stood up to applaud his brilliant innings. He took off his helmet and punched the air, and then looked back towards the dressing room, smiling. Root ran up to him, hugged him, and applauded him. He came in at a time when the hosts were in a bit of trouble and India had the tail up, but this century has allayed many of England's fears and led them to a glorious win. There is no doubt that he has played a brilliant innings and has brought his team out of a difficult situation and taken them close to victory.
Joe Root completed his 67th Test fifty with a single on the third ball of the 50th over. The kind of game he has shown together with Harry Brook is amazing. He has given a very good performance throughout this entire series and has also broken many records. This was his 16th home Test fifty against India. He is in second place in terms of scoring the most fifties in Tests, behind only the great Sachin Tendulkar, who has scored 68 half-centuries in Tests. The way he is batting, he would definitely want to score a century today.
At the lunch break on day four, England were 164 for the loss of three wickets. While England still needs 210 runs to win, India needs seven wickets. Currently, Harry Brook is present on the field with 38 runs in 30 balls and Joe Root with 23 runs in 46 balls. This session is going well for both teams, but the pressure here is slowly increasing on the Indian team. If Siraj had not stepped on the boundary after taking the catch of Brook, it could have been 4 wickets. India should think about line, length and mind-games to deal with the batsmen. The pitch is pretty good for batting, but has something in it for the bowlers as well. Brook played and missed a few shots but used his usual methods to put pressure on the bowlers. You still can't tell which way it's going to go. It's been such a close contest between these two teams throughout the series.
The Indian bowlers are seen dominating England. Some time ago, they had dismissed Ben Duckett, whereas now Mohammed Siraj has sent England captain Ollie Pope back to the pavilion. This was another such length ball, which Pope played outside the line. The movement coming from the pitch made it difficult for him to defend. The ball hit the knee-roll on the middle and off line, hitting the middle and the leg. Pope took DRS. Pope knew he was out; he took a lot of time to take the review. With this, England captain Ollie Pope's innings ended after scoring 27 runs in 34 balls.
Finally, Prasidh Krishna dismissed the well-played English batter Ben Duckett. It was a full length ball, outside off stump, Duckett tried to drive and was not fully settled on the front foot. The ball took the outside edge and went to the right of Rahul at second slip, who caught it safely. India was rewarded for their brilliant bowling this morning. The celebrations suggested a plan was working, and that is what happened. They not only planned well but also executed it well against Duckett. With this, Ben Duckett returned to the pavilion after scoring 54 runs in 83 balls. This wicket was very important for the Indian team, which they achieved. Now, from here, India has a chance to put pressure on England.
By the end of the third day's game, England's score was 50 runs after losing one wicket. Zak Crawley returned to the pavilion after getting out on the last ball of the match, while Ben Duckett is present at the crease after scoring 34 runs off 48 balls. England still needs 324 runs to win. The last day of the game is going to be very thrilling. It has to be seen whether India is successful in taking wickets or England can achieve the target. All the results can be possible where the match is currently being played. It will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow. India will try its best to win this match and level the series.
The day couldn't have ended better for the Indian team than this. They took Zak Crawley on the last ball of the day. Siraj ended the day in magical style for India. A double bluff from the Indian pacer that made the ground dance, and then a big, glancing, angled yorker. The ball went under the bat and crashed onto the off stump. Zak Crawley was not ready for this; his legs were not moving, and his stumps were shattered. India got the reward for so much hard work; they got a wicket on the last ball of the day. Zak Crawley was out after scoring 14 runs off 36 balls.
Washington Sundar had adopted the T20 mode after Mohammad Siraj was out. He scored a total of 32 runs in the last two overs. But his innings didn't last long, and Josh Tongue caught him out. With this, Tongue has also completed a five-wicket haul in these innings. Washington Sundar was out after scoring 53 runs in 46 balls with the help of 4 sixes and 4 fours. Sundar scored runs in the last few overs can certainly prove to be a big difference. India's innings ended at 396 runs, and now England needs 374 runs to win.
Ravindra Jadeja has lost his wicket after scoring a brilliant fifty. It was a lengthy ball outside of stump. Jadeja slashed the ball from the crease itself, but he played the ball at an angle. Just a little manipulation, and the ball took the outside edge and reached Brook standing at second slip. He made no mistake and reverse-cupped the ball in front of his left shoulder, and Jadeja was out. In frustration, he almost punched his stumps and then walked off the field. However, Jadeja made a significant contribution to the scoreboard. With this, Ravindra Jadeja's brilliant innings of 53 runs in 77 balls has come to an end.
Before India could recover from this setback, Josh Tongue dismissed Mohammad Siraj two balls later. It was bowled full on the middle leg and slid sharply. Siraj tried to clip it, but he could not move forward and got stuck in the crease, and the ball hit the pad. England appealed, and umpire Ahsan Raza raised his finger. Siraj wanted to take a review but couldn't; India was left with no option. His ball had taken the inside edge of the butt! That's why he stood there with an angry look on his face! It doesn't matter now; he has been given up on, and he has no choice but to accept the decision and leave the field.
Ravindra Jadeja's great game continues, and he also completed his sixth fifty of this series by hitting a four on the first ball of the 82nd over. He has also broken the old record of Sunil Gavaskar, which he had made in 1979, by scoring 5 fifties in a series against England. Jadeja has batted brilliantly in this series and has helped Team India recover from bad situations on crucial occasions. Jadeja has certainly proven himself as a batsman in this series.
Brilliant bowling from Jamie Overton! That was a fantastic post-tea spell, bowling fast and putting in that bit extra effort into each ball, and it paid off. Good length ball bowled on middle leg, hit the deck and moved away quickly. The ball took the outside edge and hit his back leg just above the knee. No bat was used. Dhruv Jurel was out and took India's last review with him. This was the start England were looking for after the tea break. With this, Dhruv Jurel returned to the pavilion after scoring 34 runs in 40 balls.
By the tea break, Team India had scored 304 runs with the loss of 6 wickets. However, in this session, Team India lost three important wickets, but despite this, it was successful in crossing the 300 mark. While Captain Gill was out on the very first ball of the session, Jaiswal took the scoreboard forward by scoring a brilliant century. By the time tea, Ravindra Jadeja is present at the crease after scoring 26 runs in 48 balls, while Dhruv Jurel is also playing well on 25 runs in 24 balls. The Indian team would like to score big from here and take a good lead over England, whereas there is no scope for England to score more; they need to take wickets from here.
On the second ball of the 65th over, Josh Tongue finally took the wicket of Jaiswal, who was playing in excellent form. It was a short delivery for Jaiswal; he tried an upper cut, and they had Overton pretty square at third man, and he judged nicely into his bucket hands with a dive forward. With this, Jaiswal's brilliant innings ended after scoring 118 runs in 164 balls, in which he hit 14 fours and two sixes. This is a big blow to the Indian team's hopes of making a big score, whereas England will be very happy with this wicket. Jaiswal was not only playing well, but he was also taking the scoreboard forward at a good pace, due to which there will be more pressure on the upcoming batsmen.
Atkinson dismissed Karun Nair on the third ball of the 55th over, ending yet another of his innings early. It was a length delivery that generated a steep bounce and surprised Karun Nair. He was tentative in his crease, and the ball took a bit of the glove, and Jamie Smith dived to his right to complete the catch. Although Harry Brook had dropped his catch some time earlier, despite that, he could not take advantage of it and returned to the pavilion after scoring 17 runs in 32 balls. Karun has scored 50 once in this series, and despite getting a good start, he has failed to convert it into a big score.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is in excellent form. He has maintained the kind of start he gave to the Indian team in the second innings of this final test, and with the help of a single in the 51st over, he has scored his sixth test century, while this is his fourth against England. This promising innings of Jaiswal has certainly given India a new dimension, and Indian fans are hopeful that he will be successful in putting pressure on England with his long innings. Jaiswal's century is the 12th Test century scored by an Indian batter in this series.
Atkinson dashed the hopes of Indian fans on the very first ball after lunch when he dismissed Shubman Gill LBW out. It was a lengthy ball that pitched outside off, nipped back in sharply and thuds onto the front pad below the knee roll. Gill planted his front leg a long way across, and then his pad became an impediment for the bat to come through as the ball angled onwards. With this, Shubman got out early in the second innings of the fifth Test and returned to the pavilion after scoring 11 runs in 9 balls. He scored a total of 754 runs in the series and fell 20 runs short of the legendary Sunil Gavaskar's record for most runs in a Test series for India.
By the lunch break on the third day, Team India's score was 189 runs with the loss of 3 wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal has scored 85 runs in 106 balls, while the Indian captain Gill has just come to bat and has scored 11 runs in 8 balls. The 107-run partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Akash Deep certainly put pressure on England. From here, the game becomes more exciting. Team India is making a comeback in the match by giving a good performance, whereas England is lagging in this match; hence, there is a strong need for them to take wickets from here, and they will go to take wickets with full force in the next session. The Indian team has a lot of expectations from captain Gill; he will definitely need to play well.
Finally, Akash Deep's brilliant innings has ended and that too just before lunch today. Jamie Overton dismissed him on the very first ball of the 43rd over. It was a short ball from Overton, and it bounced straight to Akash Deep. Although he tries to keep it down on the leg side, the ball hits the bat and goes up towards point, where Atkinson takes a good catch. With this, Akash's innings of 66 runs in 94 balls ended, in which he also hit 12 excellent fours. Finally, torment ends for England with Akash’s wickets.
Yesterday, when Akash Deep came for batting, no one had thought that he would be able to bat for long. The only expectation of him was that he should not lose his wicket in the last session of the second day. But now you can see here that he and Jaiswal have completed the 100-run partnership, and he is playing fearlessly. No amount of praise would be enough for these two batsmen; together, they have removed a huge pressure from Team India. Now the pressure is directly on England's bowlers, who have so far failed to break this partnership. This is also the 18th-century partnership in this series, the most since 2000 in a test series.
Akash Deep came as a night watchman yesterday, but the way he played today, he seems to be playing like a proper batsman. He completed his first Test fifty by hitting a four off Atkinson's fourth ball in the 38th over. Gill had his helmet on in the dressing room, took it off, and came on the balcony to applaud Akash. Jadeja and others also look very happy and smiling for him. Akash also celebrated it passionately. With this innings, he has shown that he is capable of taking Team India out of difficult situations by batting well in difficult times.
The weather on the third day was favourable for batting, and the chances of rain were also very low, the benefit of which is directly seen in the hands of the Indian batsmen. While Jaiswal has been playing well since yesterday, surprisingly, Night Watchman Akash Deep is also playing well. England bowlers are getting extra bounce in front of Akash Deep, while he is lucky that a few catches are also dropped by English players. England had a lead of only 23 runs, now India's score has reached 123 runs, with which India has taken a lead of 100 runs. While Jaiswal has scored above 70 runs, Akash Deep has also scored above 30. The partnership of these two has definitely become a headache for the England bowlers.
ENG vs IND Test 5: Day 3: Weather Report
On the second day of the match, rain interrupted the game again. The bowlers dominated the game throughout the day. Although England initially played a Bazball game, the Indian side then presented the Jaiswal show, as he scored an aggressive fifty.
Nice, pleasant, bright sunshine today, and forecast to remain that way. It could be a batter's day. There are divots on the ground that are getting bigger. England will try to hit those divots; otherwise, it looks like a very good batting track. The weather forecast predicts a clear day with a very minimal chance of rain. Moreover, there are 30 minutes extra, like yesterday, to complete the 98 overs for today.
At the end of the second day's game, Team India scored 75 runs with the loss of two wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal is playing with 51 runs in 49 balls, while night watchman Akashdeep is playing with four runs in two balls. India has a lead of 52 runs. While the first session today was in England's favour, the Indian team's bowlers made a strong comeback in the second session after lunch. There was a time when it seemed that England would be able to get a big lead in this match, but the England team was able to take a lead of only 23 runs as they were all out on 247. Tomorrow's match becomes crucial; it will determine which team has the upper hand. While Yashasvi Jaiswal is playing well for India, Gus Atkinson is also seen bowling brilliantly for England.
Before the end of the game on the second day, Atkinson sent Sai Sudarshan back to the pavilion by getting him LBW out. It was a good length delivery angling into the middle-leg stump, kept low, and Sai Sudharsan couldn't get his bat down in time. After which, Atkinson made a confident appeal, upon which the umpire quickly raised his finger and declared him out. Although Sai Sudarshan immediately took a review on this, it did not help India, and he was declared out in the review as well. Sai Sudarshan's innings ended in 29 balls after scoring 11 runs; however, upon his return to the pavilion, some words were also exchanged between him and Ben Duckett.
The kind of excellence game Zak Crawley showed for England, Yashasvi Jaiswal was seen playing a similar game for Team India. Jaiswal completed his innings by hitting a six over the wicketkeeper in the 17th over. However, this inning proved to be lucky for Jaiswal as England missed some very easy catches. England is paying the price for this in the form of Jaiswal's aggressive innings, who is performing brilliantly. This is Jaiswal's first innings in the second innings of this series.
Once again, Josh Tongue gave England their first breakthrough. It was a good length ball outside the off stump on which Rahul played a very poor shot; it looked as if he was giving catching practice to the England players standing in the slips. Rahul looked confused on this ball; it took an edge and went to Joe Root standing in the slip, who took a very easy catch. However, Rahul kicked himself for not leaving this ball and went back to the pavilion after scoring 7 runs in 28 balls. Tongue tortured him with the away deliveries many times, and finally, he got him.
While England's wickets were falling continuously on one side, on the other side, Harry Brook was standing, handling the other end. He played brilliantly and completed his half-century in 57 balls. Harry Brook is playing such a game that he is not leaving any opportunity to impose boundaries on low deliveries. However, he couldn't carry his innings for long and was bowled out by Mohammed Siraj. It was a short-length delivery just outside off stump. Brook kept it short for the second time in the over. The ball takes the toe-end of the bat and cannons into the lower half of the off stump. With this, Harry Brook returned to the pavilion after scoring 53 runs in 64 balls.
This was Mohammed Siraj's fourth wicket in this innings, and with this, he has taken his 18th wicket in the series, making him the highest wicket-taker in the series. England's team was seen taking a big lead at one time, but India's outstanding bowling performance made them all out for 247 runs, and they could only take a lead of 23 runs. After which, the teams brilliantly balanced the game, bouncing back in style and surprising each other.
Even after the tea break, the dominance of Indian bowlers continued. Prasidh Krishna soon dismissed Gus Atkinson and sent him back to the pavilion. Krishna tries to dig it into the pitch and force him to mis-hit. It was a short ball. Atkinson was surely surprised by the change in length and couldn't middle the pull shot, and the ball went straight to Akash Deep on mid-on, who caught comfortably. Atkinson returned to the pavilion after scoring 11 runs off 16 balls. Prasidh Krishna bowled brilliantly, and this is his fourth wicket in this innings.
While in the first session England's batters dominated, in the second session India's fast bowlers played brilliantly and took six wickets of England. In this session, the fast bowlers bowled more and more good-length deliveries, which created pressure on them, and they lost the wickets. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna have bowled some great spells, due to which India has almost made a complete comeback in this match. At the time of the tea break, England's score was 215 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. However, Harry Brook is still at the other end, scoring 33 runs off 36 balls. In the last session of the day, Indian bowlers will definitely find a way to get England out as soon as possible, whereas the England team is still under pressure and would like to keep the wickets for some time.
In this session, while in the beginning the dominance of the English batsmen was seen, later the Indian bowlers made a strong comeback, and whatever little gap was left was completed by Prasidh Krishna before lunch, when he sent Jamie Smith and Jamie Overton back to the pavilion in the same over. On the first ball of the 43rd over, Krishna bowls a length delivery that gets some extra bounce. Smith didn't make any foot movement on it and tried to punch it away from his body. Ball takes an edge and goes straight to KL Rahul in the second slip, who takes a sharp catch easily. Jamie Smith got out after scoring 8 runs in 22 balls. Prasidh Krishna did not stop with just one wicket and sent Jamie Overton, who came to bat in the same over, back to the pavilion by trapping him on the fifth ball.
Mohammad Siraj is currently in great form, and he has also taken the big wicket of Joe Root. It was a length delivery outside off, nips back sharply and skiddy once again. Root did not get his bat down and was struck on the knee in front of middle. Although Joe Root took a review this time, three red dots were seen in the ball tracking, and Root returned to the pavilion after scoring 29 runs in 45 balls. This was a huge success for India, as everyone knew how important a wicket this was.
Mohammed Siraj is bowling very aggressively, and after a few overs, he has also got Jacob Bethell's wicket on a yorker ball. Bethell could not judge this ball at all, and he looked completely confused about it. The bat appeared to be very far from the ball, and when Bethell tried to stop the ball, it had already hit his front pad. With this, Jacob Bethell returned to the pavilion after scoring 6 runs in 14 balls. No amount of praise for Mohammed Siraj would be enough; this is his third big wicket in his successful spell. Siraj has bowled 8 overs in this spell, in which he has been successful in taking three important and big wickets for 35 runs.
England captain Ollie Pope was deceived by a brilliant delivery from Mohammad Siraj and was out LBW. It was a good length delivery just outside off, darted back in sharply and hurried Pope, he was caught in his crease and he had no chance of getting any bat behind this, it thuds into the back pad and a huge shout from Siraj. The umpire looked unsure about the height and angle of the ball, but Siraj looked sure about it. India took a review, which went in favour of the Indian team. With this, England captain Ollie Pope returned to the pavilion after scoring 22 runs in 44 balls. His wicket falling is definitely a big blow for England. He has the ability to take the team forward safely.
The kind of start that Zak Crawley has given to England is commendable. He gave an aggressive start to the team right from the beginning, along with Ben Duckett. However, after lunch, Prasidh Krishna was successful in dismissing him. It was a short length delivery on off-stump. Crawley looked to heave this away off the front foot, and it lobbed up towards mid-wicket. Jadeja settled under it and took it comfortably. With this, Crawley’s entertaining and aggressive innings ended with 64 runs in 57 balls. The special thing about his innings will be that he scored 56 out of 64 runs from just boundaries. Certainly, Crawley had a good chance to take this brilliant innings beyond the century mark.
By the lunch break of the second day, England had scored 109 runs after losing one wicket in 16 overs. Whereas Zak Crawley is playing after scoring 52 runs in 43 balls, captain Ollie Pope is also present on the crease with 12 runs in 16 balls. While Team India was seen struggling on the second day, England's batting looked just the opposite. The Indian team now has a great need to take wickets in the second session; otherwise, the way the England players are playing, they will soon be successful in making a big total. From here on, England can be seen with the same approach in the next season as well, while India is in dire need of wickets.
The England openers who came to play in the second innings of the match gave a very good start to England. He showed the Purely bazball game right from the beginning. Just as Team India struggled badly on this pitch and returned after being all out in just 30 minutes, the England players played a completely opposite game and scored excellent boundaries to take the team's score forward quickly.
Although Akash Deep was successful in getting the first success, when Ben Duckett tried to take a reverse scoop, he got caught out by the wicketkeeper. Ban Duckett gave a very aggressive start and scored 43 runs in 38 balls, which included 5 fours and two sixes, after which he got out and returned to the pavilion.
Hardly anyone would have thought that the Indian team would be all out so soon. Team India could play only 34 balls today and lost all four of its wickets. Soon after Karun Nair was out, Washington Sundar also gave away his wicket to Jamie Overton on Atkinson's ball in an attempt to pull. In this way, both the overnight batsmen of India were out within 20 minutes and went to the pavilion.
After getting Washington Sundar out, in his very next over, Atkinson got both the boys out as well. While he dismissed Mohammed Siraj, bowled with a full delivery, Prasidh Krishna was dismissed with a classical inswinger that pitched on a length near the off stump and moved away; the ball took the outside edge, and Jamie Smith took a simple catch.
Along with this, Team India got out on 224 runs, and Gus Atkinson took five wickets while bowling brilliantly in the acting session. This was not good for Team India by any standards, and the game was shown completely opposite to the expectations of the fans.
The Indian batsmen failed to live up to the expectations that the Indians had of them. Whereas on the sunny day, it looked like the Indian batsmen would be able to do well, they failed to do so. Karun Nair was out lbw in the third over of the day and returned to the pavilion. It was a fuller ball from Josh Tongue, which pitched outside off. Karan Nayar tried to defend it, but the ball swung lightly and hit the pad straight. Tongue made an appeal for lbw, which was immediately accepted by the umpire. Although Karun reviewed it, even in the review, it was clearly out. Karun was able to add only five runs today and was out after scoring 57 runs in 109 balls.
On the first day of the match, it kept raining repeatedly, due to which the game was interrupted. Because of this, only 64 overs could be played in the whole day, in which Team India scored 204 runs and lost six wickets.
Today's forecast is for a much sunnier day, and it gets better as the day progresses. Which means Indian batters have a good chance to score more runs. India will be hoping that Karun Nair and Washington Sundar play well today and score as many runs as possible. Moreover, there are 30 minutes extra to complete the 98 overs for today. However, pitch is still challenging for batters.
By the end of the first day's match, the Indian team had scored 204 runs at the loss of 6 wickets, where Karun Nair scored 52 and Washington Sundar was present at the crease after scoring 19 runs in 45 balls. Today was a similar day for both teams. England managed to take 6 wickets while India also scored 204 runs till the end of the day's game. The Indian team will have high expectations from both batsmen on the second day, expecting them to try their best to post a big total on the scoreboard. The hosting side will try their best to take as many wickets as possible in the first session of day 2.
Karun Nair has now managed to score a good fifty after playing poorly for a long time. He completed his 50 by taking two runs in the first over of the 62nd over, shortly before the end of the first day's play. With this fifty, Karun Nair will try to regain the self-confidence he lost in the series and try to score a big score. With this fifty, Karun Nair will try to regain the self-confidence he lost in the series and try to score a big score. Karun Nair had earlier lost his wicket in this series despite getting a good start.
Dhruv Jurel also fell prey to Atkinson's excellent bowling. Trying to play a cut shot on another extra bounce, India lost another wicket. It was a good length ball just outside off stump that bounced off the deck, came back in and reached Dhruv as he tried to cut. He couldn't control the bounce, and the ball took the outside edge and went to Brook at second slip. With which the innings of Dhruv Jurel ended after scoring 19 runs in 40 balls. This was India's second wicket after KL Rahul, when the batsman got caught while trying to cut a bouncing ball.
Josh Tongue gave Australia a good start in the third session. In the 36th over of the inning, it was a brilliant fast short delivery from Tongue, which was making an angle and went slightly outside. Sudharsan could not do much on this ball and just tried to defend it. He brought the bat forward, but the ball was making an angle slightly, it took a light outside edge and went straight into the wicket keeper’s gloves. Sai Sudarshan is returning to the pavilion after scoring 38 runs in 108 balls.
Josh Tongue did not stop here and just two overs later, he succeeded in dismissing the brilliant in for battles Ravindra Jadeja in the same ways as Sai Sudharsan. After which, she was out after scoring 9 runs in 13 balls.
In the second session of the day, due to rain, only six overs were played. The captain of the Indian team made a big mistake during this as well, for which he had to pay the price in the form of a runout. At the time of the tea break, Team India's score was 85 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Sudharsan is seen playing responsibly, scoring 28 runs in 84 balls. Karan Nair, who just came in to bat, has not scored a single run yet after playing eight balls. The England team is happy to get the wicket of Shubman Gill and will try their best to put pressure on India in the next session as well, while India needs to play with great responsibility, and they need a big partnership here.
Difficulties are increasing for Team India in the match. In-form captain Shubman Gill gave his wicket as a gift to England in the form of a runout. On the second ball of the 28th over of the match, Atkinson bowled a lengthy ball to Gill, on which he defended well towards short cover. The ball was not very far from Atkinson, and Gill had to run to take a single on this ball. It was a complete misjudgement from Shubman Gill's side, although Sai Sudarshan tried his best to stop him, and he did not come forward even a single step for the run. But by then Gill was halfway into the pitch, and Atkinson caught the ball from his left side and smashed it straight on the stumps. Gill remained well behind the crease and was clearly out. In this run out, the fault of Shubman Gill is seen completely, who lost his wicket without thinking about anything.
England performed well in the first session of the innings and sent both the Indian openers back to the pavilion early. By lunch, the Indian team's score was 72 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. Where Captain Shubman Gill is present at the crease, scoring 15 runs in 23 balls, while Sai Sudharsan is present, scoring 25 runs in 67 balls. The Indian team has suffered a big blow in the form of Rahul because he was playing very well in the series. Whereas Jaiswal is repeatedly making mistakes and getting out early. Although repeated rain can spoil today. Nevertheless, from here onwards, the Indian team will start batting with a good strategy in the next session and will try to get as few wickets as possible. Indian fans have high expectations from captain Gill because this is a must-win game for Team India to level the series.
After the dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Chris Woakes sent India's second opener, KL Rahul, back to the pavilion in the 16th over. It was a lengthy ball from Chris Woakes, which came in with a bit of bounce. Rahul tried to cut the ball, but the ball took inside and hit the stumps. Rahul played cautiously from the beginning today, but he made a mistake here. After which, Rahul returned to the pavilion after scoring 14 runs in 40 balls. This was a good start for England as they sent both the Indian openers back to the pavilion very quickly.
In the last match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, England won the toss and chose to bowl first and proved their bowling decision right by sending Jaiswal back to the pavilion in the fourth over itself. On the very first ball of the fourth over, Atkinson bowled a good length delivery angling back into the pads. However, as soon as the ball hit the Jaiswal pad, a double sound was heard, which created confusion, and it seemed that maybe the ball first hit the bat and then the pads. However, in this confusion, Captain Ollie Pope took a review. It is clear that there are two sounds, but they were off the front and back pads. Jaiswal did not create much of a moment on this ball, and after the ball directly hit his pads, the review declared him out. Jaiswal returned to the pavilion after scoring 2 runs off 9 balls.
It was already expected that the toss winning team would choose to bowl first. England won the toss and elected to field at Kennington Oval, London.
England's playing 11 is as expected, Ollie Pope is the captain in place of Ben Stokes, who was ruled out due to a shoulder injury. Jamie Overton, Josh Tongue, and Gus Atkinson in for Liam Dawson, Brydon Carse and Jofra Archer. The visitors made three changes Dhruv Jurel, Karun Nair and Prasidh Krishna in for Rishabh Pant, Shardul Thakur and Jasprit Bumrah.

The pitch at The Oval has traditionally been one of the more balanced surfaces in England. Unlike some of the more bowler-friendly tracks in the country, The Oval offers something for everyone. Early in the match, seamers can get assistance with a bit of movement and bounce, especially when conditions are cloudy. However, as the game progresses, the true nature of the pitch comes to the fore, and good pace and even bounce make it an ideal surface for stroke-making. Although all wickets have behaved similarly due to the dry summer, the Oval traditionally favours fast bowlers on the first day. The second and third days are good for batting, and they offer some turn on the last two days of the Test. Weather is also an important part of this match, and according to AccuWeather, there is a chance of rain on the first two days of the Test match, so the team winning the toss might be chosen to bowl first and make the most of the swinging and favourable conditions for the pacers.
Both teams will be making some forced changes to their playing 11 due to injuries. While England Skipper Ben Stokes was ruled out of the final Test due to a shoulder injury. Jofra Archer and Liam Dawson also miss out. On the Indian side, after Rishabh Pant's injury, it is almost certain that Dhruv Jurel will replace him for the Indian team. Apart from this, they can play with three spinners, in which there is a strong possibility of Kuldeep Yadav joining the team in playing 11.

England kicked off the series in true Bazball style as they recorded the 10th-highest chase in the history of test cricket at Headingley. This meant that Rishabh Pant’s historic twin centuries went in vain. The left-handed batter was in the news for the wrong reasons as well in Leeds. Pant was sanctioned by the ICC for showing dissent towards the umpire.
The second test at Edgbaston saw the visitors bounce back in the series courtesy of their captain, Shubman Gill. India registered their first win at the venue thanks to a record-breaking performance from Gill. Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj shared 17 wickets among them on a placid track in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. Ravindra Jadeja too made half-centuries in both innings of the match as his hard work paid off.
Having squared the series in the third test, India arrived at Lord’s with a great deal of confidence. However, the surface that welcomed the two teams in London was not at all similar to the first two tests. It was a slow, tacky surface where the visitors, for the first time in the series, were asked to bowl first. The Gill-led side was in a great position to take a lead in the series when they were asked to chase 193 in the fourth innings. However, disciplined bowling from England and some poor shots from India led to them losing the match by 22 runs.
In the fourth test match, England was once seen winning the match, but the excellent effort of Team India turned it into a draw. After Team India scored 358 runs in the first innings, Joe Root and Ben Stokes from England left no stone unturned to defeat India. Joe Root's 150 runs and Ben Stokes' 141-run innings with five wickets largely tilted the match in England's favour.
But the way Team India's batsmen batted in the second innings is praiseworthy. It was an 188-run partnership between KL Rahul and Shubman Gill, after which Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja made a partnership of more than 200 runs, and due to this, Team India was successful in drawing the match. However, the fifth match is very important for India, which they would like to win at any cost.
