Priyansh Arya was named player of the match for scoring his maiden century in the IPL. The left-handed batter from Punjab Kings is playing in his first IPL season and has already entered the record books. He reached the elusive triple-digit mark in only 39 balls equalling Travis Head for the fourth fastest century in the IPL.
Priyansh Arya playing his first IPL season wrote his name in the record book. The left-handed batter struck only the second century in IPL 2025. It was not just the fastest in the season but also the joint fourth-fastest century in the IPL. Arya’s knock allowed PBKS to get to a score of 219 runs. He smashed nine sixes and seven fours in his his historic knock.
While Priyansh Arya took all the limelight away from Shashank Singh with his splendid century. However, the right-handed batter too played a crucial role in the first innings. He came to the bat in the ninth over when the hosts were in a precarious position.
Devon Conway played a solid knock for the visitors. The Kiwi batter smashed a half-century, however, he took too many balls which could have cost the five-time champions the game. It was his 10th fifty in the Indian Premier League all of which have come for the Chennai Super Kings. Conway retired in the 18th over to make way for Ravindra Jadeja. The left-handed batter made 69 runs in only 49 balls but struggled to keep up the required tempo in the last few balls he faced.
It was a spectacular batting performance from Priyansh Arya. He scored only the second century of the season. However, what made the knock from the youngster even more special was his ability to keep playing with an aggressive intent even when wickets fell on the opposite end. He received great support from Shashank Singh as the two batters shared a 71-run stand for the sixth wicket. The right-hander too scored an unbeaten fifty to power Punjab Kings to a 200+ total.
For Chennai Super Kings, the bowlers missed their mark in the middle overs. Even after a great start in the first eight overs, they lost the plot against Priyansh Arya and Shashank Singh. While Khaleel Ahmed and Ravichandran Ashwin took two wickets each they proved to be too expensive.
It was a tough night for the bowlers as even in the second innings there were not too many wickets that fell. Fielding was poor, to say the least from both teams as multiple catches were dropped.
Devon Conway top-scored for Chennai Super Kings with a 69-run knock. The left-handed batter struggled in the fag-end of his innings and was retired out to make way for Ravindra Jadeja. Shivam Dube too played a great supporting hand as he made 42 runs in 27 which is his highest score in the season. Lockie Ferguson and Glenn Maxwell were the pick of the bowlers. While the pacer picked up two crucial wickets, the Australian spinner conceded only 11 runs in his two overs and also dismissed Rachin Ravindra.
