The first team in the list is the defending champions, the Melbourne Renegades Women's team. In the final of the WBBL 2024, the Reds defeated the Brisbane Heat to win their first trophy.

Their top run scorer from last season, Hayley Matthews, has been re-signed by the club for the next 2 years. But the Caribbean star will miss the 2025 season due to an impending shoulder surgery.

Deandra Dottin and Alice Capsey were selected by the Reds in the WBBL draft. They have also signed Tess Flintoff from city rival Melbourne Stars. Sophie Molineux and Georgia Wareham are some other key names in the line-up.

The Renegades, though, have a long list of off-contracted players. It includes star players Courtney Webb and Tara Norris. However, the Reds are expected to soon finalise a new deal with them.

Brisbane Heat, last season's runners-up, return with a formidable lineup. The side features players like Grace Harris, India’s Jemimah Rodrigues, Georgia Redmayne, Charli Knott, Lucy Hamilton, Grace Parsons, and Nicola Hancock etc.

Laura Harris and Jess Jonassen were two of the team's most notable off-contract players. The Sydney Thunder acted quickly to sign Laura Harris, while the Heat managed to retain Jess Jonassen. They also signed Chinelle Henry in the draft after she impressed in the WPL 2025 season, scoring at a strike rate of 196.38.

The Sydney Thunder team made a big move during the Player Movement Window as they acted quickly and brought in former Brisbane Heat player Laura Harris. They also signed Hasrat Gill from the Melbourne Stars to join their roster.

They made some big moves in the WBBL Player Draft as they picked Sri Lankan all-rounder Chamari Athapaththu, Heather Knight, and Shabnim Ismail. The addition of these players alongside the likes of Georgia Voll, Phoebe Litchfield, Samantha Bates, and Hannah Darlington makes the Sydney Thunder side look even stronger ahead of the new season, where they hope to improve on their last season’s performance.

Natalie Sciver-Brunt, captain of England, was signed as a pre-signing by the Hobart Hurricanes, marking a significant step ahead of the WBBL draft. They also picked two more English players in the draft. The Canes retained Danielle Wyatt while adding Linsey Smith.

Last season's 2nd top run scorer and the team’s top run scorer, Lizelle Lee, will continue with the team, having signed a new two-year deal. Elyse Villani, Nicola Carey, and Heather Graham are other top performers from last season who will continue with the Hurricanes.

The Perth Scorchers have made a big move during the Player Movement Window as they roped in Katie Mack from the Adelaide Strikers. She will be playing alongside Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine. This is a much-needed improvement after all of trouble they had with the bat last season.

The Scorchers re-signed Sophie Devine as a pre-signing ahead of the draft and included the likes of Paige Schofield and Chloe Tryon. Alana King and Chloe Ainsworth, the two top wicket-takers for the Scorchers last season, will continue with the side in the upcoming season.

Sydney Sixers

Ellyse Perry, the star Australian all-rounder, will continue with the Sydney Sixers in the upcoming season after scoring 424 runs last season and taking 6 wickets. Ashleigh Gardner and Amelia Kerr, the team’s leading two wicket-takers, will continue with the club, including the likes of Alyssa Healy and Maitlan Brown.

However, the Sixers stunned everyone when they opted to pick Sophia Dunkley in the WBBL 2025 Draft ahead of Sophie Ecclestone, who has now joined the Adelaide Strikers.

In the 2024 WBBL season, the Adelaide Strikers faced a challenging run, finishing second from the bottom on the league standings. The team added Sophie Ecclestone through the draft and saw Katie Mack move to the Perth Scorchers. Meanwhile, Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana opted not to take part in this year's tournament.

To strengthen their squad, the Adelaide Strikers have signed England’s Tammy Beaumont to fill that positional gap. They also pre-signed South African Laura Wolvaardt ahead of the draft. The roster remains formidable with players including Tahlia McGrath, Megan Schutt, Amanda-Jade Wellington, and Darcie Brown.

Melbourne Stars

The Melbourne Stars ended the WBBL 2024 campaign at the bottom of the points table, underscoring the urgency for enhancements moving forward. The club took proactive measures by pre-signing key players such as Amy Jones, Dani Gibson, and South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp in advance of the draft.

The new season will not see Indian players Yastika Bhatia and Deepti Sharma in the squad. The team lineup will feature Meg Lanning, Annabel Sutherland, Kim Garth, and Sophie Dey.
