Rajasthan Royals have endured a shaky start to their IPL campaign so far winning just two out of their first five games. One of the key reasons behind RR’s slow start to life in IPL 2025 is also down to their captain Sanju Samson being injured for the opening three games and having to make shift as impact sub.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru under the new leadership of Rajat Patidar have endured a strong campaign so far. However, they lost their previous game to Delhi Capitals comprehensively and would want to bounce back.
The Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have played a total of 29 games between one another over the course of last 18 seasons and there’s barely anything separating the two sides. RCB only just have the upper hand with 15 wins out of these 19 games while, RR have won 14 matches.
Rajasthan Royals in the first five games have struggled to get going in the 18th edition of TATA IPL. Part of the reason behind this is that they have a weakened squad this season. With Sanju Samson struggling with injuries early on, batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag have failed to step up. In the bowling department the likes of Jofra Archer and Sandeep Singh have performed well but they haven’t faced enough support from their spinners. Until now, Rajasthan has been a misfiring unit in this IPL with bits and pieces of good performances. Starting today against RCB, Rajasthan fans would hope their team could gain some consistency or they risk falling way behind in the playoff race.
Much to everyone’s surprise the Royal Challengers Bengaluru are having a solid IPL as they’ve won three out of their first five games and are playing with renewed spirit. Given their performances this season, they are considered to be early favourites to go all the way this season. Their openers in Phil Salt and Virat Kohli have shown tremendous form and are backed by the middle order led by Rajat Patidar. Tim David and Jitesh Sharma have often provided with powerful finish to their batting. In the bowling the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, Krunal Pandya have all been clicking in tandem. However, the one question mark perhaps over RCB is the form of their star player Liam Livingstone.
The weather conditions at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium during the Rajasthan Royals vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru encounter are expected to be dry and hot. The temperature will range from 34-38°C with negligible chances of rain throughout the fixture.
The Sawai Mansingh stadium is notoriously famous in IPL to be a safe haven for bowlers as the pitch is usually on slowish side and batters struggle to play big shots. Given the history of the ground, the match is not expected to be a run fest as the pitch will be a slow one with enough help for bowlers to dominate the proceedings.
In Scenario 1, if Rajasthan Royals win the toss they are expected to bat first given their depth in bowling, they can put RCB under pressure.
In Scenario 2, if Royal Challengers Bengaluru win the toss they are expected to field first to put pressure on a struggling Rajasthan Royals batting lineup. If they restrict them under 170 then RCB have a great shot at chasing the total down.
In both cases Royal Challengers Bengaluru are expected to win the match.

Top Batter: Phil Salt
Phil Salt is in tremendous vein of form for Royal Challengers Bengaluru this season as he has often set the tone for RCB’s batting. Salt has scored with a strike rate of 183 in first five matches with a highest score of 56 runs. Given, Rajasthan’s out of form bowling attack, Phil Salt can exploit the conditions and wreak havoc upon them in powerplay.
Top Bowler: Krunal Pandya
The surface of Sawai Mansingh stadium often grips a bit making it a perfect hunting ground for a finger spinner like Krunal Pandya. Krunal Pandya has bowled beautifully this IPL picking up 7 wickets till now and often being crucial for Bengaluru’s success. He is expected to play a crucial role in the encounter.
The match between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru is expected to be a thrilling matchup. Given the clear frailties in the Rajasthan Royals lineup and how well Royal Challengers Bengaluru have fared this IPL especially in away fixtures, all the scales are tipping towards a RCB win.
