England's excellent bowling in this match should definitely be praised as they defended even such a small target. Ravindra Jadeja was the lone survivor for India as he hit his fourth consecutive fifty of the series and remained not out at 61. This match will always be remembered for India's fight till the last breath and England's excellent bowling. Losing so close to victory is painful for every Indian fan. From here, both teams will play their fourth test match in Manchester, which will be played from 23 July to 27 July. Team India will definitely try its best to level the series in the next game.
Like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj also defended his wicket better than expected. There was a time when it seemed that the match would end before the tea break, but the strong partnership of Ravindra Jadeja and Siraj kept the hopes alive for India. Ravindra Jadeja was successful in his strategy of playing four to five balls of the over himself while letting one to two balls for the other end. But this strategy did not work for long, and Siraj blocked the 5th ball of Bashir's 75th over well, but unfortunately, the ball overspun and went straight to the stump. With this, India was all out for 170 runs and lost the match by 22 runs. With this, the hearts of Indian fans were broken in this great test match.
Jasprit Bumrah came in to join Ravindra Jadeja after Nitish Reddy was dismissed just before lunch. Bumrah l supported Ravindra Jadeja by excellent defence, better than expected. Together they added 35 runs in a partnership of 22 overs. Although Bumrah got out in the 62nd over while trying to pull the short ball of Stokes, he scored 5 runs in 54 balls. After this, Mohammad Siraj came to bat, who is India's last hope, along with the last wicket.
It has been England’s morning as they step closer to taking a 2-1 lead in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Ben Stokes and his men started right from where they left yesterday. After picking four of India’s wickets in the last session of day four, the Indian batters could not do enough to push England on the backfoot.
If there were two players in the Indian batting order who could have instilled some fear in the hosts during this chase it was Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant. Jofra Archer picked up Jaiswal on the fourth day. However, in case of a short chase it was necessary to send Pant back to the pavilion for a low score. The English pacer did exactly what was needed and dismissed Pant for a score of nine runs. The Indian wicketkeeper had hit a couple of fours and instilled a belief that India could chase down the total. But Archer breached his defence and rattled the off stump.
It is moments like these where Ben Stokes has often stepped up for England and won matches that that were slipping away from them. After inflicting a crucial run out in the first innings against the run of play, Stokes ended the watchful innings of KL Rahul with a nip backer. The Indian opening batter was trapped in front of the stumps but the on-field umpire refused to raise his finger. However, an adamant Stokes took the DRS and successfully challenged the on-field call.
Jofra Archer went off the boil after picking up Yashasvi Jaiswal’s wicket yesterday. However, the right-arm pacer was on the money throughout his fiery spell in the first session of the fifth day. After picking up Rishabh Pant’s wicket, Archer continued his dominance and dismissed Washington Sundar.
Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy joined each other at the crease at a tumultuous period in the game. The required runs when the two all-rounders came to the crease was in the triple-digits. The ball was doing all sorts of tricks during that phase with Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer bowling at probing lines and lengths. But Jadeja and Reddy put up a great fight against the English bowlers and have brought down the runs remaining to win to 81. Chris Woakes at the fag end of the session broke the stand by sending Reddy back into the pavillion.
The third test between India and England hangs in the balance, with the weather expected to have a major say on how the game proceeds on the final day at Lord’s. The hosts, having picked up four wickets late on the fourth day, will have cloud coverage to help them defend 135 runs. With the pitch already having a variable bounce and the ball still being only 17.4 overs old, the pace quartet from England could have a great day at the home of cricket. For India, seeing out the initial bursts from the pacers would be vital while adding as many runs as possible. With only 135 runs remaining, a big partnership could help them strengthen their grip over the clash.
As easy as the target seemed to India, England's bowlers have made it that much more difficult. Losing four wickets in the last moments of the match is definitely a big blow to India's hopes. The way India has lost the wickets of Jaiswal, Karun Nair and Shubman Gill, the match seems to be a bit in favour of England. However, Rahul is holding one end by scoring 33 runs in 47 balls. But Team India will desperately need either Rishabh Pant or Nitish Reddy to support him at the other end. By the end of the day, India had lost four wickets for 58 runs in the last innings. They still have to score 135 runs with six wickets in hand. The way England's bowlers bowled in the last innings is commendable, and they would like to start from here on the last day of the match.
Team India, which came out to achieve the target of 193 runs, got a big shock as soon as the innings started in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had fallen victim to Jofra Archer for the second time in this match. Although after the dismissal of Jaiswal, Rahul and Karun Nair were seen sharing a partnership for some time. But Brydon Carse took two crucial wickets in succession for England in the form of Nair and Gill. These wickets seem to be creating some obstacles in Team India's hopes of victory. By the end of the fourth day's match, Akash Deep also returned to the pavilion after being bowled by Ben Stokes.
England's team could not do well after the dismissal of Joe Root and Jamie Smith. However, England had hopes from captain Ben Stokes and the well-played Brydon Carse in the last session that they would be able to add some runs to the scoreboard. But England's tailenders could not do anything in front of the excellent bowling of Jasprit Bumrah and Washington Sundar. Washington Sundar took 4 wickets while Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj each took two wickets.
With this, England's second innings ended at 192 runs. It is certainly clear that England was short of some runs, but if their bowlers perform well then problems can arise for India. It will be important to see how India performs for the rest of today. India needs a decent target of 193 runs to win this match.
The start of the last session was not very good for England. After the tea break, in the second over itself, Washington Sundar dismissed Ben Stokes who was playing well. It was a round the wicket ball, which sneaks right under the bat as the length is pretty full, and the ball crashes into the middle stump. In this over Stokes had a narrow escape once, but this time he could not escape being out. With this wicket, England's hopes of scoring a big score have been dashed. With this, Stokes returned to the pavilion after scoring 33 runs off 96 balls.
Before England could recover, Jasprit Bumrah took another important wicket of Brydon Carse on the very first ball of the next over. Breedon, who scored a half-century in the last over, could not do much better for the team this time. This was a perfect and powerful yorker delivery from Bumrah to which Brydon Carse had no answer. With this, Breedon was out after scoring just one run in four balls.
This session was a mixed one for both teams where England scored 77 runs in 27 balls in this session, India also managed to take two wickets. However, apart from Ben Stokes, England does not have any other proper batsmen left. Team India will take advantage of this and try its best to get England all out quickly. England's team plans to score 250 runs from here, while India will try to take the final 4 wickets from here. At tea break, England were 175 for 6. While the England captain is scoring 27 runs in 83 balls, Chris is unbeaten on the crease after scoring 8 runs in 33 balls. India will surely aim to bowl England out and bat first before the final session ends.
Before England could recover from the blow of Joe Root, Washington Sundar had also bowled out Jamie Smith. Smith's wicket will also be crucial for India as he has the ability to convert aggressive play into quick runs, which he has already shown in this series. It was a flat delivery, Smith plays it on the wrong line as the ball beats the outside edge and hits the stumps. With this, Jamie Smith has returned to the pavilion after scoring eight runs in 18 balls. The way Washington Sundar took two important wickets and brought India back in this match is commendable. India bowled well this morning and repeated it in this session as well.
Finally, the partnership between Joe Root and Ben Stokes has ended. Washington Sundar bowls brilliantly and gets the important wicket of Joe Root. Joe Root goes to sit down on the ball and tries to sweep, but the ball hits the leg stump. His dismissal was almost like Harry Brook's, which was done similarly. Getting Root's wicket was most important for India to gain control of this match. Because of the type of player that Root is, he has the ability to change the match in any situation. He also created problems for the Indian bowlers by scoring a century in the previous inning. With this, the 67-run partnership between Joe Root and Ben Stokes came to an end. Joe Root was out after scoring 40 runs in 96 balls.
Today's morning was not as good for England as they had thought when they came to play today. Due to the excellent bowling of the Indian team, England could not get any major partnership today. England has lost four wickets by slowly since this morning. The credit for this goes to the Indian bowlers who bowled with a plan today. England certainly look to be behind in the game right now, having lost four crucial wickets for 98 runs. However, Joe Root and captain Ben Stokes are still at the crease. While Ben Stokes has scored 2 runs in 13 balls, Joe Root has scored 17 runs on 40 balls. The innings of these two batsmen will decide the fate of England in this game.
Harry Brook is looking in the temper to play aggressively today. He has proved by taking risky shots that he is not in the mood to defend today. Brook showed what kind of game he wants to play today by hitting two fours and a six off the last three balls of Akash's 20th over. However, Akash took revenge in the very next over when Brook again tried to hit a boundary by playing a risky shot. Harry Brooke again tried to sweep for a boundary on this ball but Akash bowled a clever slow ball due to which Harry Brook missed the ball and got bowled out. With this, Brook's aggressive innings of 23 runs in 19 balls came to an end.
Before England could recover from the blow of Pope Ollie, Nitish Kumar Reddy gave them another blow in the form of Zak Crawley. It was a full delivery from Nitish Reddy that was swinging outside off stump, and the ball took a thick outside edge as it went straight to gully, where Jaiswal took a brilliant catch. Although Jaiswal has made mistakes in this series by dropping many catches. But he did not make any mistake in catching this. With this, Crawley’s innings ended with 22 runs in 49 balls. Certainly, with this wicket, Team India's grip on this match has strengthened.
England's openers wanted to give a good start to the team, but Mohammed Siraj spoiled the party for them. While Zak Crawley was seen playing cautiously in the beginning, Ben Duckett was seen adopting a little aggression. But before they could get their eyes on the game, Siraj dismissed Duckett on the last ball of his sixth over. Duckett wanted to take a boundary by playing this ball down the ground, but he got caught by Jasprit Bumrah, after which Mohammed Siraj showed full aggression in front of Duckett. After dismissing Duckett, Siraj was seen celebrating his wicket with full enthusiasm. Duckett could not play a big innings and was dismissed early after scoring 12 runs in 12 balls.
Mohammed Siraj did not stop with just one success and gave India another success by trapping Ollie Pope on the last ball of his 12th over. It was a good delivery from Mohammed Siraj, which Pope wanted to play down the ground, but the ball hit his front foot. Although the umpires did not give out on this, Siraj convinced the captain to review. However, Gill was worried about the height of the ball, but Siraj convinced him completely, after which the result came in India's favour. After which Ollie Pope returned to the pavilion after scoring 4 runs in 17 balls.
Today was the day when the first session was in favour of the Indians, but in the end, the bowlers bowled well and made it in favour of England. The Indian innings ended equal to England's score. Like England, India's first innings also ended at 387 runs. Although before the stumps of the third day, the England batsmen came to play one more over, which Bumrah did, but nothing much happened, and after making two runs for England, today's game ended. The fourth day's game will be the most important for this match in which we will have to see whether the Indian bowlers will be able to stop England from making a big score by taking wickets quickly or else England's batsmen will face the Indian bowlers and score a big score to ensure their team's victory. At the end of the third day, England were at two for no loss.
Indian batsmen have again fallen apart after Ravindra Jadeja's dismissal. Just like in the first match, the Indian team had to suddenly face the collapse, in this match too, the Indians lost their last four wickets in just 11 runs. While Akash scored just 7 runs, Mohammed Siraj and Bumrah could not add a single run to the scoreboard of Team India. India once again missed a good chance for a lead of some runs.
Jadeja has won matches for India in many Test matches with his excellent batting and bowling. But on the second ball of the 114th over, Chris Woakes bowled a delivery down the leg side, and Jadeja tried to flick it and was caught by the wicketkeeper. However, before getting out, Jadeja had scored 72 runs in 131 balls with the help of 8 fours and 1 six. Jadeja is certainly the most experienced Test cricketer from the Indian squad, who has always tried to make Team India win by playing well.
The way Ravindra Jadeja has handled the lower order in this series is really praiseworthy. He completed his half-century by hitting a four off Joe Root on the fourth ball of the 98th over. He scored his third consecutive fifty, which he has scored at a very crucial time. The fifties scored in the last match were also an important part of Team India's victory. In this innings of Jadeja, everything from defence, aggression and maturity is done, which is a sign of his good test experience. Because in such situations, if the players do not manage the innings like the first match, Team India may suddenly collapse.
Shortly after the start of the last session, Nitish Kumar Reddy was dismissed by Ben Stokes with a short ball. Nitish Randy was not ready for this ball and could not make much momentum on this ball. This is another innings of Nitish Reddy where he failed to score well. In this series, Nitish Reddy is either getting out early or losing his wicket once he is well settled. Certainly, his mistakes can prove to be problematic for Team India. Nitish Reddy is going towards the pavilion after scoring 30 runs in 91 balls.
Rahul getting out after scoring a century was definitely going to create problems for India, but the way Jadeja and Reddy played and took the team's score forward, fans must have been happy with that. At tea break, India were 316 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. While Jadeja had scored 40 runs in 70 balls, Nitish Kumar was present at the crease after scoring 25 runs in 70 balls. However, England still has a lead of 70 runs. In the coming season, the Indian team's batsmen will have to play in proper coordination with each other because India has already given away a wicket run out in the form of R Pant and Nitish Reddy is also escaping from getting run out again and again. It is important to increase the score while saving wickets in the last session of batting.
When Rishabh Pant and Rahul, who were playing well, got out suddenly near lunch, it seemed that the Indian innings might be over soon, but the kind of game that Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Reddy have shown is praiseworthy. Both of them rotated the strike properly and took India's innings forward. Although Ravindra Jadeja was doing well in the last match, Nitish Kumar Reddy is also playing a good role in this innings. India has high expectations from Nitish Reddy that he will score more and strengthen India's position in this match. However, both these batsmen will have to play cautiously as Nitish Reddy has already escaped at least three run-out chances. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja is showing his full experience here.
The most important thing Rahul did after coming in after lunch was to complete his century. Rahul played this innings with a lot of patience. He scored his fourth century in England and second century of the series by taking a single off Jofra Archer's ball in the fourth ball of the 67th over. Perhaps in his haste to complete this century, Rishabh Pant was run out before Lunch. But better late than never, and finally Rahul completed his century. Rahul batted very well in this innings. He respected good balls while also scoring boundaries on slightly out-of-length balls. Along with this, he regularly tried to change the strike and the result is in front of him in the form of this century.
But while Rahul was celebrating his century, he was caught out by Harry Brooke on the first ball of the next over. Shoaib Bashir's well flighted off-break, Rahul gets lured into a loose punch and the ball takes the edge and carries to the slip. Harry Brook, standing at slip, made no mistake and got this important catch, which proved to be a very important wicket for England. Both Rahul and Pant, who had been making significant partnerships, were out around lunch and returned to the pavilion. With this, Rahul's innings of 100 runs in 177 balls came to an end. Nitish Reddy comes into the crease after Rahul's dismissal.
The kind of game shown by both the Indian batsmen today is praiseworthy. Both of them have not only managed the innings but also scored runs rapidly. However, just before the lunch break, Rishabh had to lose his wicket due to a small issue in coordination between the two batsmen. While Pant got run out after scoring 74 runs, on the other end, Rahul is still on the crease at 98. Team India's score is 252 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. However, England still has a big lead of 135 runs. After the lunch break, we will have to see what happens in the next session, whether Rahul will be able to play his innings long or England's bowlers will take wickets early.
Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul's partnership was ended by Ben Stokes. Pant has made such a big mistake by getting run out, which he did just before the lunch break. In Shoaib Bashir's over, Pant had made a normal push on the third ball, on which Rahul took the call and went for the run, but being smart, Stokes hit the stumps at the non-strike end. The way England players are celebrating after the throw and Pant is looking disappointed, it seems that he is out and the Big Screen has clearly shown that Pant is outside the crease, which means he must now go back to the pavilion. With this, Rishabh Pant's brilliant innings of 74 runs in 112 balls came to an end. Once again Ben Stokes has shown that he knows how to take wickets, if not by bowling, then also by fielding.
Rishabh Pant is playing a great game right from the start of the match. In this series, he is trying his best to play a good innings and doing the same for India at Lord's as well. When Rishabh Pant was playing on 49 runs in the 59th over, without any fear he completed his fifty by hitting a classic six on Ben Stokes' ball. With this six, Rishabh Pant has also become the player who has hit the most sixes in a Test against England. Rishabh Pant has been playing well since the start of the game today and Indian fans will be hoping that he can score big runs.
At the start of the third day, Rahul and Rishabh Pant showed the kind of game that Team India needed. Both of them played intelligently and took the team's score forward. From the other end, England bowlers also tried their best to take wickets as soon as the game started but they failed. When Team India needed it, Rahul and Pant showed an aggressive game and scored boundaries and moved the scoreboard forward rapidly. With this, the pair have completed their fourth 100-run partnership in England, the highest by any Indian pair. Indian fans will definitely hope that their partnership continues for a long time and Team India's control over this match becomes stronger.
The second day of the match was definitely in England's favour, but if Jasprit Bumrah's five wickets are removed for India, then there is nothing much better left. For Team India, Rahul is at the crease, scoring 53 runs and Pant is scoring 19 runs. There has been a partnership of 38 runs between the two batsmen. England is still leading the game with a big lead of 242 runs. At the end of the second day, Team India's score was 145 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. From here on, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul need to build a big partnership to strengthen the team's position in the match.Let's hope for the best for India.
Rahul completed his half century with a single in the 39th over. Rahul's experience, class and maturity were all visible in today's batting. Despite wickets falling on one end, Rahul is holding the other end. He has focused on building good partnerships with batsmen right from the start but he is not getting much support from the other end. This sensible innings of Rahul will definitely be useful for Team India in the current situation. The first session of the third day of the match will be very important because where England will want to take wickets, it is important for Team India's batsmen to save their wickets.
On the very first ball of the 34th over of India's innings, Chris Woakes took the important wicket of captain Gill and sent him to the pavilion. Gill pressed forward, trying to block into the offside and got a feather of an outside-edge to the keeper. And finally something good for Chris Woakes as well. Gill got out after scoring 16 runs on 44 balls. Considering the form Shubman Gill has been in in the series, this has been the biggest wicket for England, which they needed the most. Captain Gill losing his wicket like this can create big problems for India.
Karun Nair has again failed to convert a good start into a big score. This has happened to him in all the innings of this series. However, the biggest contribution in taking his wicket went to Joe Root, who sent him back to the pavilion by taking a brilliant catch. Stokes breaks the partnership between KL Rahul and Karun Nair. Karun Nair made 40 runs in 62 balls and was dismissed by Ben Stokes. Karun Nair is not able to convert his good starts into big scores by making the same mistakes again and again. He needs to focus on his shortcomings. It was very important for England to break this partnership, which the captain himself did.
The second session was in the name of bowlers. While Jasprit Bumrah took 5 wickets for the first time at Lord's, Jofra Archer also made a comeback after a long time in Test cricket and took the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal in his very first over. At tea time, the score of Team India was 44 runs with the loss of one wicket. KL Rahul scored 13 runs in 34 balls and Karun Nair is also at the crease after scoring 18 runs in 42 balls.
Archer is bowling in Test cricket after almost 4.5 years, and as soon as he came, he displayed his brilliance. He got a wicket just three balls after his return. While Yashasvi Jaiswal had given India an aggressive start by hitting 3 fours in the first over, he could not do anything in front of Archer's excellent bowling and was out after scoring 13 runs in 8 balls.
Muhammed Siraj has finally ended England's innings after out Brydon Carse. She got out after playing a good innings of 56 runs on 83 balls. Whereas till yesterday England was looking far ahead in this match, today the brilliant bowling of Jasprit Bumrah has brought Team India back into this match. While Joe Root has been successful in scoring his 37th century in this innings, the aggressive innings of Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse are also proving beneficial for England. Jaspreet Bumrah has bowled brilliantly for Team India which England batsmen could not counter today. However, Team India has dropped a lot of catches, which it needs to pay attention to. England's innings, which was looking set for a big total at one stage, folded for 383 runs. Team India will hope for a good start from its opening batsmen.
What a wonderful bowling performance by Jasprit Bumrah. No England batsman had any answer to his bowling today. Bumrah was bowling sharply in the first session, he has started bowling in the same manner again. This was an excellent ball coming from inside for which Jafra Archer had no answer. He neither could move the bat forward nor could he move it back, he just remained standing, and the ball hit the stumps. With this, this is Jasprit Bumrah's first fifer at Lord's ground. Jorah Archer was out after scoring 4 runs in 11 balls. After dismissing Archer, Bumrah is ready to bowl with full aggression with 3 slips and 2 gullies.
While Jamie Smith and Bredon Carsey were batting well before lunch, they could not show the same performance after lunch. Jamie Smith could not add even a single run to his personal score and was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj on the second ball of the second over after lunch. That was a good delivery from Siraj, it swung away from a length outside off, Jamie tried to punch it away from body and got an outside edge to keeper Jurel. Jamie Smith's aggressive innings ended on 51 runs.
The type of game that Bumrah started, it seemed that England would be all out soon. But Jamie Smith and Bredon Carsey put England back in a good position with a good partnership of 82 runs. Bredon Carse is playing after scoring 33 runs in 62 balls. Jamie Smith showed an aggressive game and scored 51 runs in 53 balls. At lunch on day 2, England were at 353 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.
Jamie Smith played aggressively as soon as he came and helped England recover from the blow given by Bumrah. He completed his half-century in the pocket just before the lunch break. He had shown good performance in the Edgbastons and continued the same here as well and scored a half century. Certainly, the fact that he faced a big player like Bumrah at such a young age shows his talent. It is very important for India to get Jamie Smith out because he is such a player who can handle the innings from one end and take it to a good total.
The kind of storm named Bumrah that came in the morning for England, they also recovered quickly from it. Because Bredon Carsey and Jamie Smith handled the innings well. Although at the start of the game it seemed that the England team would be scattered from here but it did not happen, praise for which goes to both the players of England. The type of bowling that Jasprit Bumrah was doing as soon as the game started today, definitely caused a lot of trouble to the batsmen. Therefore, it becomes more difficult to face Bumrah in such good form.
The first thing that happened on the second day of the match was Joe Root's 37th century. He completed this by hitting a four off Bumrah on the first ball as soon as the game started. With this, he broke Rahul Dravid and Steven Smith's record of 36 Test centuries and reached the top five. But England's joy was short-lived as Bumrah soon came in and bowled Ben Stokes on the second ball of the 86th over. The way he bowled out Harry Brook yesterday, today he was seen doing the same thing while dismissing Stokes. Stokes returned to the pavilion after playing an innings of 44 runs in 110 balls. However, India missed a chance to dismiss Jamie Smith when a catch was dropped at second slip as soon as he came in.
After which Joe Root scored his 37th century and was out on 104 runs.
But there was no stopping Bumrah this morning. He dismissed Joe Root and Woakes in his very next over. On the very first ball of his 88th over, Bumrah bowled a good length delivery outside the off stump, which Root wanted to play away from the stumps, but the ball took the inside edge and hit the stumps. So, Joe Root scored his 37th century and was out on 104 runs. The troubles for England did not end here as Bumrah dismissed Chris Woakes on the very next ball. When India reviewed the catch, a clear spark ultra-edge was seen which confirmed that the ball had touched the bat.
The weather continues to be dry in London as there is expected to be a day full of sunlight at Lord’s. Temperatures in the second session could rise beyond 30 degrees. The Shubman Gill-led side would want to take up as many wickets possible in the first session. Bowling in the second and third sessions could be a huge toil on the bodies of the bowling team.
At the beginning of the session, Team India seemed to be dominating, but the partnership of Joe Root and Ben Stokes has again put India on the back foot. The smart play shown by both of them is truly praiseworthy. A partnership of 79 runs has been completed between these two batsmen in 170 balls. On one hand, Joe Root is 99 and just one run away from his 37th test century, on the other hand, he also played a good innings of 39 runs in 102 balls. India's bowlers have failed to get wickets despite bowling a disciplined and good line length.
From here, the England team will look for a big total on the second day of play. There will be a lot of pressure on the Indian bowlers to take wickets quickly. The way the game was played on the first day, it is clear that England's team is ahead in the match. By the end of the first day's play, England had scored 251 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Indian bowlers failed to take wickets despite bowling well on the first day. Team India will have high expectations from Jasprit Bumrah on the second day of the match so that he can take England's wickets as quickly as possible. The second day's play will take this Test match to a crucial turning point where there will be a possibility of one team being ahead. If England's batsmen play cautiously tomorrow too, then they will definitely go far ahead of India in this match.
After Harry Brooke was out, captain Ben Stokes himself came to the crease to support Root and played well. Together, they took charge of England's innings and moved it forward. Despite a lot of efforts, the Indian bowlers failed to make either of the batsmen commit a mistake. Both of them showed their experience and class and moved the game forward with a good strategy. Root was initially looking more defensive in starting, but for now slowly increasing his aggression. Captain Stokes is also looking in good form, and without any mistake, he is taking the England team towards a big total.
Team India has soon taken the second wicket of this session, and they seem to be dominating the England team. Harry Brook had no answer to this brilliant ball from Bumrah. Brook just kept playing this ball hard, and the ball hit the stumps. The ball swung away and snaked in sharply and hit the off stump. With this, Brooke returned after scoring 11 runs in 20 balls. This was a battle between the world's best test bowler and best batsman, in which Bumrah won one-sided.
In the second session, Indian bowlers did not get a single wicket. In this session, Jadeja brought the Indian team back by getting a wicket on the first ball of the third session. At this time, Team India was in dire need of a wicket, which Ravindra Jadeja successfully got. It was a good length delivery that was spinning outside off. Pope looked to drive the ball with hard hands and got a big outside edge. Jurel made no mistake and claimed the catch with sharp reflexes. Pope's innings ended with 44 runs from 104 balls. The start of the third season couldn't have been better for Team India.
The kind of game England has shown in the second session is commendable. Despite their best efforts, the Indian bowlers could not take any wickets from England. Both batsmen played intelligently and tried their best to give England a strong position. In the second session, England managed to score 70 runs in a total of 24 overs without any loss of wickets. Credit goes to Joe Root and Ollie Pope for not making any mistakes in the entire session.
After this session, England's score was 153 runs in 49 overs. While on one side, Ollie Pope is playing after scoring 44 runs in 103 balls, on the other hand, Root is playing after scoring 54 runs in 109 balls. The England team's score was 153 for two wickets after 49 overs. India were disciplined with the ball, but luck continued to evade them as they went past the edge a few times.
Root handled the innings after England lost two consecutive wickets, reflecting his experience and class. He completed his fifty by hitting a four to Nitish Kumar on the second ball of the 46th over. He completed his 67th half-century in his Test career. Root did not make any wrong choice in this regard, and the team's scoreboard is also slowly moving ahead.
England started the second session playing a very defensive game. Earlier, for some time, England players were playing without scoring with the bat. In the beginning, there was a time when England players did not score a single run off 29 balls. This shows how alert the England team is about long partnerships. But something happened in the 33rd over of the match that made Indian fans worried. Bumrah was bowling this over, and after one ball, Pant appeared to be in a lot of pain because the ball hit him directly on the fingertips of his left hand.
After that, the physio came and took care of Pant, applying some spray. During this time, it was told through signals that Dhruv was ready to be the wicket-keeper in Pant's position. And he might have to come on the field in place of Rishabh Pant. After some time, in the very next over, Pant left the field and Jurel came on the ground in his place. Considering the kind of on-field understanding Pant has, all fans want to see him return to the ground as soon as possible.
After losing two wickets early, Joe Root and Ollie Pope are seen trying their best to handle the England innings. Pope displayed a good defensive game by scoring 12 runs in 34 balls. Joe Root scored 24 runs in 34 balls. At the end of the first session, England were 83 runs for the loss of two wickets. While England's batsmen will want to take the team to a good position by making big partnerships in the next session, the aim of the Indian bowlers will be to strengthen their influence on the match by taking wickets as quickly as possible.
In the last match, Nitish Kumar Reddy looked completely flopped in both batting and bowling. In this match, he did wonders for Team India as soon as he came to bowl. Indian captain Shubman Gill called him to bowl in the 14th over for the first time in this match. As soon as he came, he gave Team India its first success on his third ball. It was a friendly short ball down the leg-side on which Duckett was trying to hit a boundary. But on this ball, he was caught out by wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant. Ben Duckett scored 23 runs in 40 balls before getting out.
Nitish Reddy did not stop here, and just two balls later, he dismissed the second opening batsman as well. On the last ball of Nitish's over, Crawley tried to play comfortably but the ball hit his gloves and went into the hands of wicket keeper Rishabh Pant. Zek Crawley scored 18 runs in 43 balls after which he went back to the pavilion. After two wickets in this one over of Nitish Reddy, the momentum shifted directly in India's favour. Here we also have to praise Captain Gill, who invited Nitish Kumar Reddy to bowl at the right time.
England won the toss and chose to bat first in the third test match of India's tour of England. Both the opening batsmen were seen trying to give a good start to the England team. Although their bat touched the edge a couple of times, they remained safe. Although there were a couple of big appeals in Bumrah's over, England's openers survived. In the first 10 overs, Crowley was seen playing better and also hit three fours in the over of Akash Deep.
England won the toss and elected to bat first at the Lord’s Stadium in the third test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
England announced their playing XI with only one change. Jofra Archer returned to the playing XI after four years. The visitors also announced a single change as Prasidh Krishna was replaced by Jasprit Bumrah.

After criticising the pitch at Edgbaston in the second test, it is reported that the strip at Lord’s could have some assistance for fast bowlers. The pictures circulating on social media suggest that there is little grass on the surface. England have confirmed the return of Jofra Archer to their side, who could get some help from the pitch. Jasprit Bumrah, after missing the previous test, will return for India to form a formidable pace trio along with Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj.
The weather in London suggests that, despite the grassy surface at Lord’s, it could be a great day for the batters. The weather during the week suggests that this test, like the first two games, could go the distance till the fifth day. The toss would once again be pretty vital. Ben Stokes, having won the previous two tosses, elected to bowl first. His toss decisions came under scrutiny, especially at Edgbaston, which was a pretty flat surface. The team batting first would want to make the most of the sunny conditions on the opening day
Both England and India are expected to make changes in their teams for the third test. India’s ace pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, will be leading the bowling attack as he comes to the team fresh after a two-week break. Given the strong batting performances from the visitors, it might not be a bad idea to play another frontline bowler in place of Nitish Kumar Reddy.
England’s bowling attack will be bolstered by the addition of Jofra Archer at Lord’s Stadium. Apart from Archer, Gus Atkinson, too, could make his return to the red-ball format as the hosts attempt to bring in some fresh legs to their bowling attack.

The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy kicked off in great fashion with England recording the 10th-highest chase in the history of test cricket after they chased 371 in the fourth innings. The historic performance from England meant that Rishabh Pant’s twin centuries went in vain. The left-handed batter was in the news for the wrong reasons as well at Headingley. Pant was sanctioned by the ICC and received a demerit point for showing dissent towards the umpire.
The second test match saw Shubman Gill leading the Indian team from the front to a famous victory. India registered their first win at Edgbaston thanks to a record-breaking performance from Gill. Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj shared 17 wickets among them as they made sure that the visitors did not miss the services of Jasprit Bumrah. Ravindra Jadeja too made half-centuries in both innings of the match as his hard work paid off.
