The rest of the 17 games will be played among six venues. These venues are Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
After a long delay, the BCCI has finally announced on Tuesday the schedule and venues for the much awaited playoffs of the Indian Premier League 2025 season. Due to unpredictable weather conditions, the BCCI has shifted the playoffs and finals of the IPL from Hyderabad and Kolkata to New Chandigarh ( Mullanpur) and Ahmedabad. In a media release, the BCCI honorary secretary Devajit Saikia announced that the playoff stage will start from Qualifier 1 at the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh on May 29, Thursday which will see the top two teams from the points table. Then the Eliminator will be played at the same venue on 30th May, Friday where the third and fourth-placed teams will play. Then the action shifts to Ahmedabad where Qualifier 2 will be played ( Loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator will face off ) on 1st June. And then the final will be played at Ahmedabad on 3rd June, 2025.
Given the nature of the IPL points table, the competition is pretty fierce between 5-6 teams for the four playoff spots. The top contenders for the playoffs are Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings. However, unlike GT and PBKS, RCB has a relatively easier set of matches remaining, which makes their chances of making the playoffs the highest. Both the Titans and the Kings have to play Delhi Capitals, who are also one of the contenders to make the playoffs. The Shreyas Iyer-led unit also has to face another contender, the Mumbai Indians.
The clash between the Punjab Kings and the Delhi Capitals was abandoned when tensions rose between India and Pakistan. PBKS, hosting the clash at Dharamsala, found themselves in a great position when play was halted, having scored 122 runs at the loss of only one wicket at 10.1 overs.
According to many reports, the match between the two sides will be played once again and restarted right from the start, including the toss. This clash could be crucial as PBKS find themselves only a win away from sealing their playoff berth.
Both the Punjab Kings and the Mumbai Indians are contenders for the top four spot. Right before the season was suspended, MI lost a tough, gut-wrenching encounter against the Gujarat Titans, which halted their six-match winning streak. MI is currently placed fourth on the points table with 14 points. However, all three teams above them have played one game less. In the fifth position, DC has 13 points and has played a game fewer than the five-time champions.
Gujarat Titans have been unarguably the most all-round team this season and are rightfully so at the top of the points table. With three games remaining, the toughest assignment for Shubman Gill’s GT could be their clash against Delhi Capitals. Titans also need only a win to guarantee their spot in the top four, however, they would fancy their chances of making it to the top two given where they are right now.
Mumbai Indians against Delhi Capitals could possibly be a straight shootout between the two teams as they battle it out to make the playoffs. Currently, with a game in hand, DC could very well overtake MI, having played the same games if they win their 12th match. Both DC and PBKS are on odd points, which could be an advantage as well if the fourth spot boils down to Net Run Rate.
