Both players continued the same performance they had shown in the last session. However, when England's innings ended, it seemed that India might lose the match by an innings or run difference. But that did not happen, and both the Indian players not only handled the fight with strength but also completed their centuries. In this match, the players of both teams performed exceptionally well, scoring five centuries and five half-centuries between them. This match was significant for England players Joe Root and Ben Stokes, as they broke several Test records together.
With this, Ben Stokes became part of an excellent list for taking five wickets and scoring a century in this match. Ravindra Jadeja also showed an amazing performance from the Indian team; he took 4 wickets and scored a century as well. By the end of the match, Team India had scored 425 runs for the loss of 4 wickets with Washington Sundar batting on 101* and Ravindra Jadeja batting on 107*. This performance will further increase the confidence of both these players, due to which their chances of performing well in the next match will be higher.
However, when England's innings ended, it looked like India would lose the match by an innings or a margin of runs. But that didn't happen, and three Indian players not only handled the match strongly but also completed their centuries. Shubman has already scored a century, and now Sundar and Jadeja have also completed their centuries before the match ends. In this match, both players have given tremendous performances. While Washington Sundar played well and scored his first century in the test, the same is true for Ravindra Jadeja, who scored his 5th century in the test.
Jadeja and Sundar have shown very intelligent play. Both of them faced the England bowlers very well in the second session today and did not let any Indian wickets fall in this session. By the tea break, Team India scored 332 runs at the loss of 4 wickets. In this session, Team India played well and did not let any wickets fall. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar played good innings, and both of them completed their half-centuries. In the next session, both players will stop any other Indian wicket from falling and will try their best to score a century of their own.
Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar played well and completed their hundred run partnership. These two players have taken India far away from defeat. The kind of game these two have shown today is indeed praiseworthy. Both players have definitely pulled India out of a bad situation. From here, both these players will want to make their partnership bigger. Indian cricket fans and the Indian cricket team would also want the same from both players.
Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja played brilliant innings to steady the Indian innings, after which both of them completed their fifties in the 112th over of the innings. When the partnership of Rahul and Gill was broken, there was a time when it seemed that the next batsman should not give England a chance to take control of the match. But both these batsmen played responsibly and did not allow the England bowlers to make a comeback in the match. After this, both of them completed their fifties by hitting a boundary in Ben Stokes' over.
By lunch on the fifth day of the fourth Test, Team India had scored 223 runs at the loss of 4 wickets. While Rahul missed his century and was dismissed after scoring 90 runs, Gill was dismissed by Jaffra Archer after scoring 4th century of this series. By the time of lunch, Washington Sundar had scored 21 runs in 61 balls, whereas Ravindra Jadeja came in after Gill was out and still hasn't opened his account in four balls. From here, the danger of India losing by the innings has almost been averted. Now, we have to see how they play in the next two sessions. Now it will be interesting to see what kind of approach India uses to draw this match.
Gill's excellent form continues in this series, although he did not do anything special in the third match; despite that, he played excellently in this match and scored his fourth century of this series. He completed his innings in 228 balls by taking a single off the last ball of the 83rd over, bowled by Chris Woakes. With this, he has scored more than 700 runs in this series, while one match is still left in this series.
However, Gill's joy of scoring a century did not last long, and he was caught out by Jofra Archer just two overs before lunch. With this, Gill's innings of 103 runs in 238 balls came to an end.
The way Shubman Gill and Rahul have batted, Team India has definitely put the risk of defeat at a minimum. India did not lose a single wicket in two sessions yesterday, the credit for which goes entirely to Rahul and Gill. The way both of them handled the innings is commendable. But finally, the partnership between both two has broken, and this important work for England has been done by Captain Stokes himself. Rahul got out after scoring 90 runs off Stokes' ball. Stokes's ball was of low height, Rahul was hoping to play the original length, but the ball didn't rise. Stokes keeps it straight for Rahul, and the ball hits the pad in line with the middle stump. Rahul did not even take a review here because he definitely knew that he was clearly out. Finally, the 188-run partnership between the two Indian batters has been broken.
By the end of the fourth day's play, the Indian team had scored 174 runs at the loss of two wickets. Rahul and Gill played very well and handled the innings of Team India, and did not let any more wickets fall after the first two wickets fell in the first over. By the end of the fourth day's match, Rahul had scored 87 runs in 210 balls, and Gill had scored 78 runs in 167 balls. There has been a tremendous partnership of 174 runs between the two players, due to which Team India's hopes of making a comeback in this match have started to revive. Now they walk off after forcing England to play the waiting game.
The way Team India lost two wickets in the first over of this innings, it seemed that England's bowlers were now going to overpower Team India. But KL Rahul and Shubman Gill handled the innings brilliantly and faced the England bowlers well. Both of them are playing smartly, due to which England's team is going empty-handed without taking any wickets for the second consecutive session. Both of them are playing smartly, due to which England's team is going empty-handed without taking any wickets for the second consecutive session..
The way Rahul has handled Team India's innings from the opening till now is really excellent. He has played a careful and good innings for Team India at an important moment. India does not want to lose the match at any cost, so they need to overcome the huge lead of 311 runs given by England. KL Rahul completed his 19th Test half-century with a single run in the 43rd over of the innings.
In the second session, both the batsmen of Team India batted well and did not lose any wickets, till tea time India's score was 86 runs with the loss of two wickets. Whereas Shubman Gill is playing on 52 runs after scoring his eighth Test fifty, while Rahul is playing on 30 runs in 93 balls. However, Team India still has a huge lead of 215 runs. But if both these players keep playing with restraint like this, then definitely Team India can make a comeback in this match, which is still very much behind. In the last session of the match, Team India's entire focus will be on not losing any more wickets today. However, England's bowlers would like to keep the Indian team under complete pressure by taking more wickets. Rahul is also supporting captain Gill well, due to which both the batsmen are trying their best to take Team India's score forward.
After playing a historic innings in the Birmingham Test, Shubman Gill's score has not been much better. In the last match, he was out early after scoring 16 and 6 runs, while in the first innings of this match, he returned to the pavilion early after scoring 12 runs. But this Fifty will definitely give him confidence that he will feel good psychologically and will try his best to take Team India ahead. Just a half-century will not work; Shubman Gill will have to extend his innings to bring India back in this match. Team India's fans are expecting a big innings from captain Gill from here.
After losing two wickets in the first over, Captain Gill and KL Rahul are trying their best to handle the Indian innings. However, England bowlers are trying to put full pressure on both the Indian batsmen. But luck is favouring the Indian batsmen. In the same sequence, in the 25th over of the innings, Gill escaped being caught off Brydon Carse's over, due to which he narrowly escaped being out. Although it was an easy catch that Dawson could have taken. If England manages to take one more wicket here, then India will be under a lot of pressure today.
Eventually, England was all out after scoring a huge score of 669 runs. The brilliant innings played by Joe Root and Ben Stokes will be remembered for a long time. No doubt England is in a great position to push India harder as they have a huge lead of 311 runs. In reply, India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan in the very first over. Today's game will decide India's direction in the match, whether England defeats India badly or India is able to give them a good fight back. Indian players will definitely have to play big innings like Joe Root and Ben Stokes to get India out of difficult situations.
As much as the Indian players need to make a comeback in this match, the Indian top-order batsmen have performed poorly right from the start of the third innings. While on one hand, England posted a big score of 669 runs in the second innings, giving the team a lead of 311 runs, on the other hand, the Indian openers had a poor start to the innings by losing two wickets in the first innings.
On the fourth ball of the first over of India's second innings, Chris Woakes dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal for 0 and sent him back to the pavilion. Jaiswal took the middle and leg guard, took a step across the line to hit the ball. Then he tried to flick, but the ball hit the straight edge and went to first slip. Joe Root took the catch easily on the second attempt without any mistakes.
The troubles for India did not stop here, and on the very next ball, Sai Sudarshan also lost his wicket and returned to the pavilion. It is a back of a length delivery outside off, and Sudharsan just wants to leave the ball, but it jumps extra than he thinks. It takes the bottom edge of the bat and goes to the right of second slip for an easy catch. With this, Sai Sudharsan's innings ended with a golden duck. Although there was a big LBW appeal on the very next ball, lucky captain Shubman Gill survived it, and Chris Woakes missed taking a well-deserved hat-trick.
The kind of play Ben Stokes and Joe Root have shown in this innings is unbelievable. Certainly, England is far ahead of India in this match at the moment. We have to praise Ravindra Jadeja, who sent Stokes back to the pavilion after dismissing him on 141 runs; otherwise, with the kind of aggressive game he is showing, he will definitely reach close to 200. In the last few overs, Ben Stokes was only dealing in boundaries. But in the pursuit of hitting a boundary, Ben Stokes finally got caught by Sai Sudarshan near the boundary.
After dismissing Ben Stokes, Jadeja took the wicket of Brydon Carse in his very next over. Whose innings ended with 47 runs in 54 balls. Because of the aggressive play shown by these two players, England has a big score on the scoreboard.
The Indian team's bowling has not looked very sharp for the past two days. As a result, after consistently well, England players have completed 600 runs for England. Not only this, England captain Ben Stokes has also completed his 14th test century well, with which he has become the fourth England cricketer to take five wickets and score a hundred in the same match, and he has become the third player to have 7000 runs and 200 wickets in Tests. Like Joe Root, Ben Stokes is also breaking many records today. Certainly, Stokes has shown an incredible performance in this match. The way he bowled first and now batted is commendable.
Finally, Bumrah took the first wicket on the morning of the fourth day in the form of Liam Dawson. Bumrah bowled a good length delivery in the 140th over of England's innings. Dawson was hanging back; maybe he was concerned about picking up the ball, and it ended up being too late trying to get the ball down in defence, and the ball hit the off stumps. With this, Laim Dawson's innings of 26 runs in 65 balls came to an end. Liam Dawson gave good support to captain Stokes in taking the scoreboard forward. With today's first success, India's hopes have increased that they will soon dismiss all the England batsmen.
The third day of the match was definitely good for England. The kind of game their batsmen have shown today is commendable. Specifically, Joe Root's 150 runs have put England in a very strong position. At the end of the third day, England's score was 573 runs with the loss of 7 wickets. England captain Ben Stokes is at the crease with 73 off 134, while Liam Devon is also supporting him with 21 off 52 balls. So far, England seems to have a big lead of 106 runs, which they will definitely benefit from in the next inning. Today, we got to see an ordinary performance from the Indian bowlers. No player performed beyond his limits, due to which they are paying the price in the form of England's big score. England did lose two wickets in the last hour of the match, but after that, they did whatever they could to save themselves from further losses.
After Joe Root's dismissal, England's innings seems to be slowly coming to a halt. Just a few overs had passed since Root's dismissal, and Bumrah dismissed Jamie Smith as well and sent him back to the pavilion. It was a good length ball from Bumrah, which Sumit tried to defend, and Jurel drove forward and took the catch. With this, Jamie Smith was out after scoring 9 runs in 19 balls.
After some time, Mohammad Siraj also managed to achieve success. He bowled out Chris Woakes with a brilliant good-length delivery. The ball stays very low and goes under the bat in defence. Chris Woakes' innings ended after scoring 4 runs in 17 balls. Siraj tried hard to take wickets throughout the day, but luck was not with him, and he narrowly escaped taking wickets on many crucial occasions.
After breaking many big records of Test cricket, finally, Joe Root has been stumped off Jadeja's ball. However, before getting out, he had completed 150 runs in 246 balls. The kind of innings Root has played today has made him immortal in the history of test cricket. This innings will be remembered for a long time because of all the records he broke. It was a tossed up outside off delivery from Jadeja, which Root came forward from the crease to drive. He clearly is out of his ground when Jurel takes off the bails, and that ends a super knock.
England crossed the 500-run mark soon after Joe Root was out. However, some time before Root was out, the England captain had some difficulty in playing, after which he retired hurt, and Jamie Smith came to play in his place.
This season has been completely in the name of England. Although the Indian team has had two successes in it, it has failed to take much better advantage of it. On the other hand, Joe Root is playing record-breaking innings for England and is breaking records one after the other. Today, he has reached the fourth position in the list of highest century scorers in Test cricket and also second position after Sachin Tendulkar in the list of highest run scorers in Test cricket. At the tea break, England's score was 433 with the loss of 4 wickets as Joe Root scored 121 runs in 201 games while captain Ben Stokes was playing after scoring 36 runs in 68 games. England is currently ahead of India in the match with a lead of 75 runs.
The way Root was seen batting today, it seemed that perhaps today itself, he would reach the second position in the list of the highest run scorers in Test cricket, and he proved it by doing so. Root has surpassed legendary Australian player Ricky Ponting's record of 13378 Test runs. Now in Test history, only the great Sachin Tendulkar is ahead of him, who has more runs than him in Test cricket. The entire stadium gave a standing ovation to his historic record-breaking innings. With this, Root has joined the list of those great players of Test cricket, who seem very difficult for today's generation to reach.
After two wickets fell, captain Ben Stokes came to support Root. Together, they made a good partnership and took the game forward. Before, sometimes it seemed that after two consecutive falls, the Indian team might make a comeback, but Ben Stokes and Joe Root did not give the Indian team a chance to make a comeback. Together, both batsmen have taken the England team past 400. Currently, England looks in a good position with the loss of just four wickets.
The centre of most discussion in this match is Joe Root. The kind of game he is showing today suggests that he will break many records. Some time ago, he became the third-highest run scorer in Test cricket; now, he has surpassed Kumar Sangakkara to reach the fourth position in the list of players with the most centuries in Test cricket. This is his 38th test century. Now, Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis and Ricky Ponting are ahead of him in the list of highest Test century scorers. Along with this, this is also his 12th test century against India, with which he has also become the batsman to score the most test centuries against India.
After a stellar performance in the first session of the day, Washington Sundar finally broke the partnership of Joe Root and Ollie Pope. The kind of game these two have shown is commendable. Both players together made a partnership of 144 runs, which is the second-best partnership after the opening pair in this match. Due to the partnership between the two players, India is currently on the back foot, and England has a golden opportunity to take a good lead. It was a nice drift ball from Washington Sundar that bounced up, and Ollie Pope tried to play a mild driver, but the ball deflected off the edge of the bat and went to Rahul at slip, who took the catch comfortably without any fuss. With this, Ollie Pope's innings of 71 runs in 128 balls came to an end.
Washington Sundar did not stop with just one wicket; he again took the wicket of Harry Brook after two overs by dodging him. Brook steps out on the first ball of the 81st over, nowhere close to the crease, and he is completely deceived in the air too, the ball turning away before sliding off the outside edge. He is well away from the pitch when Jurel catches it cleanly and plucks the bails. With this, he returned to the pavilion after scoring three runs in 12 balls. With two wickets falling in a short period, India has a chance to come back in the match once again.
The way Joe Root and Ollie Pope played in the first session on the third day cannot be praised enough. Both of them not only made a good partnership but also took England's score forward. By lunch break, England were at 332 for the loss of 2 wickets. Joe Root was playing at 63 runs off 115 balls, while Ollie Pope was playing at 70 runs in 123 balls. An important partnership of 135 runs has also been made between these two players, after which India has only a lead of 26 runs left. England has a very good chance of taking a big lead in this match. Almost all the Indian bowlers could not do much against these two batsmen today. From here, Team India needs wickets in the next session, and England would like to put pressure on Team India by taking this partnership forward.
The partnership between Joe Root and Pope Ollie has reached the century mark. Whereas England has crossed the 300-run mark. Today is definitely a good day for Joe Root. First, he escaped being run out. After this, he surpassed Rahul Dravid and Jacques Kallis on the list of the highest run scorers in Test cricket. Now, he has also completed his 67th Test half-century. Ollie Pope is also seen giving full support to Root in this partnership and is slowly taking England's scoreboard forward.
Soon after India missed the chance to get Joe Root out, he reached third place among those who made the most runs in cricket history. He surpassed Rahul Dravid (13288 runs) and Jacques Kallis (13289 runs) for most Test runs. Joe Root did this feat in his 286th Test innings. Now, only Ricky Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar are ahead of him on the list of the highest run scorers in Tests. There is every possibility that in one or two innings, he will surpass Ricky Ponting (13378 runs) and reach the second position in the list of the highest run scorers in Test history.
The excellent start that Ben Duckett and Jack Crawley gave yesterday to England, today, both the batsmen Joe Root and Ollie Pope were seen carrying it forward. Both the batsmen were seen facing the Indian bowlers with great responsibility without taking much risk. However, on the last ball of Mohammed Siraj's 54th over, Ravindra Jadeja had a chance to run out Joe Root, but he missed it. When Root played towards the gully on Mohammed Siraj's good-length ball, the ball hit a player's hand and went straight to Ravindra Jadeja at backwards point. At that time, Joe Root called for a single run, and Jadeja had a full chance to get Joe Root run out, but the ball missed the stumps, and a golden chance to get him run out was missed.
The weather at Manchester after favouring the bowlers for the past two days will finally have something for the batters. The third day of the fourth test could be the best batting day in the test, with cloud coverage being as low as 50%. The Indian bowlers could not bowl tight lines and lengths yesterday and were duly punished by Ben Duckett.
Today, with the weather helping out the batters, India will not be able to afford any mistakes. For England, the first target would be to get past the visitors’ first innings total. They currently trail India only by 133 runs with Joe Root and Ollie Pope at the crease. Given the conditions in Manchester, the hosts could very well take the game away today itself. However, the Shubman Gill-led unit would know that an inspired spell from Jasprit Bumrah could make matters tricky for the opposition.
England have had a great start to their innings. The partnership of 166 runs between Ben Duckett and Jack Crawley for the first wicket has created pressure on the Indian team. In both innings, the batsmen played excellent, aggressive innings of 94 and 84 runs. Indian bowlers did not appear to be doing much better. By the end of the second day, England's score was 225 runs with the loss of two wickets. Their opening batsmen were out and returned to the pavilion. Now, Pope Ollie and Joe Root are still present at the crease after scoring 20 runs in 42 balls and 11 runs in 27 balls, respectively. India desperately needs to take wickets from here. They have only a lead of 133 runs left, while England still has eight wickets remaining, which they will take advantage of to build a substantial lead over Team India. The third day's game will be very exciting, and it will be interesting to see which team's plans and strategy will work on the third day.
Shortly after Crawley's dismissal, Anshul Kamboj, playing his first match, also got his first success in Test cricket in the form of Ben Duckett. The kind of aggressive game that Duckett is playing today was amazing. He did not spare any Indian bowlers and was seen continuously imposing boundary after boundary. This was an outside off delivery from Anshul, on which the Duckett tried to cut, but due to the extra bounce, the ball went straight into the hands of the wicket keeper, taking the bat’s edge. With this, Ban Duckett returned to the pavilion after scoring 94 runs out of 100 runs. Now there are two new batsmen on the crease, and India has a good opportunity to make a comeback in this match by taking a few more wickets.
After a good partnership, England's opening batsmen finally made a mistake, and Jadeja gave India a breakthrough. It was just a hint of turning off a good length delivery from Jadeja. Crawley gets forward to defend, gets the edge, and Rahul takes a sharp catch at slip without making any mistake. Zak Crawley’s innings ended with 88 runs in 113 balls. The Indian team needed this wicket very desperately, and they succeeded in breaking the opening partnership. The kind of game Crawley was showing today could have definitely proved very dangerous for the Indian team if he had not been out for a bit longer.
After the Indian team was all out for 358 runs, the England batters gave a good start to the team. Till the break, England's score was 77 runs in 14 overs without losing any wickets. Zak Crawley is playing after scoring 33 runs in 44 balls, whereas Ben Duckett has scored 43 runs in 41 balls. Team India aims to take wickets of England batsmen in the final session of the day, while England batsmen will strive to put heavy pressure on Team India by playing well.
After India's innings ended at 358 runs, England's opening batsmen gave a very aggressive start. Jack Crowley and Ben Duckett did not miss hitting a boundary on low balls. Both openers have succeeded in giving England a much better start than they needed. Both played responsibly and aggressively, and did not give any chance to the Indian bowlers to lose wickets.
Bumrah tried to pull the ball in the 115th over of the Innings on Jafra Archer's back of the length delivery, and the ball went straight into the wicket keeper's hands, after which England reviewed for caught behind, where the ultra edge was visible, where the ball was going after touching the glove. Jasprit Bumrah was also out after scoring four runs in seven balls. And India's first innings ended on 358 runs.
At one point, the Indian team was in the match with 5 wickets at 314 runs; now it is all out at 358 runs. Team India's lower batting order suddenly flopping again and again is going to create problems for the team.
After Team India lost eight wickets, Rishabh Pant also tried to play aggressively. First, he hit a powerful six on a short delivery by Archer and then in the very next over, he hit a four in Ben Stocks's over and completed his fifty. Meanwhile, England bowlers targeted his injured leg and started bowling against it, which Pant tried to defend successfully. But it was difficult for injured Pant to face the brilliant bowling of Jofra Archer in the 113th over. Rishabh Pant was trying to defend on the third ball of the over, but the ball took the inner edge and went into the stumps. With this, his brilliant innings of 54 runs in 75 balls came to an end.
Team India was expecting that the Indian batsmen would increase the score by batting well after lunch, but England captain Ben Stokes dashed their hopes by taking two wickets in a single over. Sundar was dismissed on the second ball of the 110th over by Stokes. He bowled a short length delivery on which Washington Sundar tried to pull short, and the ball went straight over fine leg into the hands of Chris Woakes, who caught it comfortably without making any mistake. Sundar got dismissed after scoring 27 runs in 90 balls.
After which Anshul Kamboj, who was playing his debut match, came for batting, but in front of the tremendous bowling of Stokes, he also seemed incapable of doing anything. And he returned to the pavilion after playing just three balls and getting out on zero. Stokes bowled a good length delivery in front of him, which Kamboj tried to defend, but the ball went to wicket keeper Jamie Smith with a heavy edge. With this wicket, Ben Stokes has completed his five wickets in this innings after eight years.
The Indian team lost two wickets in the first session, after which the injured Rishabh Pant returned to the pavilion to bat again. By the time of lunch break, India's score was 321 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Rishabh Pant was at the crease with 39 runs in 55 balls, while Washington Sundar was also there to support him with 20 runs in 72 balls. England bowlers will definitely want to target Injured Pant and take his wicket in the next session. Whereas the Indian team should see a partnership happening at this time.
Shardul Thakur has been playing well since yesterday; he played many good balls very carefully and played all the shots with good responsibility. But he, too, dismissed an outside swinger in the 102nd over. In England captain Ben Stokes' over, an outswinger ball was going outside the off stumps, and Thakur tried to drive it, but he gave it an outside edge. With this, Thakur's innings ended with 41 runs in 88 balls.
What happened after that was nothing less than a miracle. Rishabh Pant, badly injured, returned to the pavilion to bat again. Due to the injury he sustained yesterday, he was not able to get up again and according to media reports, he was given 4 weeks of rest. But he has definitely come to play in pain to get the team out of this difficult situation.
Ravindra Jadeja could not fulfil the expectations that the Indian team had from him on the second day, and he got out early in the first session and returned to the pavilion. In the 85th over, Jofra Archer bowled a good length delivery, which Ravindra Jadeja tried to defend and ended up hitting a big edge. Harry Brooke, at second slip, made no mistake in taking the catch. Jadeja was never comfortable with the ball moving away, almost edged it to gully in the very first ball of this over and now edged it to Brook. Ravindra Jadeja's dismissal is a big blow to India's hopes. He returned to the pavilion after scoring 20 runs in 40 balls.
Like the opening day, it could be another cloudy day at Old Trafford. With the Indian team finding themselves effectively five wickets down for 264 runs, it could be a tough task for Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, and Washington Sundar to see out the new ball. The hosts could very well take the new Duke’s ball straightaway as it was made available yesterday.
There are chances of rain making interruptions throughout the day, with the third session having the highest chance. India would ideally want to make sure that they are bowling with the new ball at England in the third session. While England, on the other hand, would want to take the rest of the wickets as soon as possible.
The visitors suffered a major setback in the form of yet another injury. Leading up to the test, Arshdeep Singh, Akaash Deep, and Nitish Kumar Reddy were ruled out of the fourth test. However, Rishabh Pant, who had injured his finger in the third test, was deemed fit to play at Old Trafford.
Batting during the third session of the opening day, Pant, in typical Pant fashion, tried to reverse scoop Chris Woakes. But he failed to connect smoothly with the ball and only managed an inside edge. The ball hit him flush on his foot, resulting in swelling and some bleeding. Following which, he had to be taken off the field via an ambulance.
The BCCI medical team took him for scans, and it is now being reported as a toe fracture, which could see him be sidelined for as many as six weeks. Dhruv Jurel would keep wickets in his absence, but India would find themselves a batter short for the rest of the match. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan is expected to join Indian team at The Oval for the fifth test as the back-up wicketkeeper in the squad.
Looking at the playing conditions before the start of the match, the Indian batsmen proved all predictions wrong by facing good bowling and left no stone unturned in making today's game a success. The first session went by without any success for England, but they bounced back in the second session by taking three important wickets, and in the last session, England bowled out 31 overs in which they conceded 115 runs and managed to take just one wicket. At the end of today's game, Team India's score was 164 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Indian experienced Test all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is present at the crease after scoring 19 runs in 37 balls, while Shardul Thakur is also present at the other end after scoring 19 runs in 36 balls.
The biggest concern for Team India on the second day of the match will be Rishabh Pant, who went off the field due to injury. Now the biggest question will be whether he will be able to return tomorrow or will he be out of this match due to injury? Considering the type of player Pant is, Team India would want to bring him back in the game at any cost, but it will depend on his injury whether he can play tomorrow or not. Team India will celebrate today as a good day for themselves and tomorrow. They will try their best to score a big total in front of England. On the other hand, England will have to try its best to take wickets from here quickly. The second day of the match will definitely bring new opportunities for both teams, where both of them would like to take advantage of it.
Sai Sudharsan came to bat after the dismissal of KL Rahul. The game he showed is worthy of being different. It was not visible in any way that he was making his debut in today's match. The spark of his self-confidence was visible in his shot selection and playing style. Sudharsan played very responsibly, and his future in Test cricket looks bright. However, in the 74th over, England captain Stokes bowled a short ball which hit the top edge of the bat and went to fine leg where Brydon took an easy catch and dismissed Sudharsan's innings. He returned to the pavilion after scoring 61 runs in 151 balls. His innings seems excellent for a debutant.
After the dismissal of captain Gill, Rishabh Pant was seen making a good partnership with debutant Sai Sudharsan. Luckily, he did score boundaries by playing risky shots on several occasions. And some mistakes were made by the English players, which benefited Rishabh Pant. But in the 68th over of the match, something happened which scared the Indian fans and the team as well. On the fifth ball of the 68th over, Chris Woakes bowled a full-length delivery on which Pant tried to play a risky shot to score a boundary. But the ball directly hit his foot, and then he showed a lot of pain. However, England players made a big appeal on this ball, which Ultra Edge clearly showed had touched the bat first and then hit his foot. But immediately after being hit by the ball, Pant fell due to pain and was unable to stand up again. After which, the medical team immediately came and examined Pant. After seeing Rishabh's injury, the physio and medical team advised him to go off the field. After which he retired hurt, and another batsman came for batting.
The excellent performance that the Indian opening batsmen had shown, the subsequent batsmen failed to repeat it. While in the first session, Team India was looking ahead in this match on one side, in the second session, it made a comeback in the match by taking three important wickets for England. At the time of tea break, Team India's score is 159 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 52 overs. Sai Sudarshan, who is playing his first match for the Indian team, is present at the crease after scoring 26 runs in 73 balls, while Rishabh Pant is also there to support him after scoring 3 runs in 8 balls. From here, India will want to dominate the match in the next session by losing as few wickets as possible and with a strong partnership, while England will try its best to lose as many wickets as possible by continuously losing wickets and dominating with aggression.
After the dismissal of Jaiswal, Team India was still recovering when England captain Ben Stokes dismissed Indian captain Shubman Gill. In the 50th over of the inning, Ben Stokes bowled a brilliant inswinger on which Gill was trying to block with his front pad. Gill thinks he wasn't close to the stumps. But the reality was different. Stokes knew he had got the wicket of Shubman Gill and went in with a loud appeal. And the umpire raises a finger, Stokes lets out a lion's roar after getting an important wicket. However, after the umpire's decision, Gill took a review, which clearly showed that the ball was directly hitting the off stump. Shubhman Gill returned to the pavilion after scoring 12 runs in 23 balls. The kind of strong partnership Shubman Gill and Sudharsan were seen doing for their franchise in IPL, they failed to do the same in Test matches here.
After Rahul was out, Jaiswal tried to build a good partnership with Sai Sudarshan. His shot selection was good, and he was playing his natural game without taking any risks. But he failed to judge the bowling of Liam Dawson properly, who was returning to Test cricket after 8 years. Dawson gave a big blow to India by taking a wicket in his second over. Jaiswal defended Dawson's good-length ball, but the ball deflected off the edge of his bat, and Brook caught it easily. Dawson bowled a good length delivery, which Jaiswal defended totally, and the ball took the edge of the bat and went to Harry Brooke, who took an easy catch. Before getting out, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 58 runs in 107 balls, which included 10 fours and a six. In this inning, Jaiswal had a chance to score a great century, but he missed it.
KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal did a great job with excellent partnership to give Team India a strong start. Both of them made a partnership of 94 runs without losing any wickets in the first session of the day. The way Rahul, along with Jaiswal, started and handled the innings is commendable. Although Rahul reached close to 50 in the game, he failed to score his half-century. Chris Woakes took his wicket and gave England their first success of the match after the lunch break. On the last ball of the 30th over of the match, Chris Woakes bowled a short length delivery outside off, and Rahul punched away from his body as he closed the bat face early. Due to which the ball took the edge of the bat and went to the player standing at third slip, who easily caught it. Rahul's innings ended with 46 runs from 98 balls. Before getting out, Rahul had given a good start to his team, but he failed to convert his well-settled score into a big one.
Team India got a good start by the Indian openers in the first session of the match. Yesterday Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal played a controlled innings and did not give any chance to England bowlers to take wickets. By lunch, Team India's score was 78 runs where Rahul was playing on 40 runs in 82 balls and Yashasvi Jaiswal was playing on 36 runs in 74 balls. The start that Team India wanted from both the openers, both of them succeeded in doing the same to a large extent. After lunch, while the English bowlers will try to take wickets, both the Indian openers will try their best to prolong their innings. In this match, Team India is in a do or die situation where it is necessary for them to perform well in this match and win it to make a comeback in the series. Although there will be pressure on Team India to win this match, the England players will definitely want to take advantage of this pressure and try their best to keep Team India away from this match. In the post-lunch game, Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal will try their best to strengthen their hold on the match by playing good innings.
England won the toss and decided to bowl first in the fourth match of this series. They expected that, due to the cloudy weather, the Indian batters would have to face difficulties and the England bowlers would be successful in taking wickets early, but Jaiswal and KL Rahul did not let anything like this happen. Both batsmen were seen playing cautiously right from the start of the match. Although England had few edges, English players did not have much chance to catch them. The kind of start given by both the batsmen will definitely give relief to Team India, who are trailing by 2-1 in this series. England used four main fast bowlers to take wickets during this period but none of them could achieve success. Team India's opening batsmen definitely deserve praise for giving a good start.
England won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Old Trafford Stadium in the third test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
England announced their playing XI with only one change. Liam Dawson returned to the playing XI with Shoaib Bashir out injured. The visitors announced three changes on their side due to injuries to multiple players. Sai Sudharsan and Shardul Thakur came back to the playing XI after missing the previous two tests. Anshul Kamboj is set to make his debut with Karun Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Akaash Deep missing from the XI.

The fourth test between England and India has a lot of weightage when it comes to the scoreline of the series. Currently, the hosts lead the series by a 2-1 margin; however, India has showcased a great deal of fight in the first three tests.
The pitch at Old Trafford Stadium will play a huge role in deciding which team starts as the favourites in the clash. Since 2000, it is the pacers who have enjoyed bowling in Manchester rather than the spinners. This could come as an advantage for the hosts, given that they are fielding four pacers. While the Indian team banks on playing with spinners who could bat as well.
The weather forecast shows typical English weather for the duration of the test. It is expected to be overcast in Manchester, and there could be multiple starts and stops during the test. The batters will have to be at their best to overcome the friendly bowling conditions.
Both teams will be making some forced changes to their teams as key players have picked up injuries. For the hosts, Shoaib Bashir picked up a finger injury in the previous test and was ruled out of the series. In the Indian team, pacers Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh have picked up injuries and will be doubtful to appear in the fourth test. Anshul Kamboj has been added to the squad as a cover and will be expected to make his debut in Manchester. Having injured his finger in the previous test, Rishabh Pant could not keep the wickets, and Dhruv Jurel was used. If Pant is still unable to keep wickets, Jurel could be included in the squad with the Indian vice-captain playing as a specialist batter. That could result in Karun Nair losing his place in the playing XI.

England kicked off the series in true Bazball style as they recorded the 10th-highest chase in the history of test cricket at Headingley. This meant that Rishabh Pant’s historic twin centuries went in vain. The left-handed batter was in the news for the wrong reasons as well in Leeds. Pant was sanctioned by the ICC for showing dissent towards the umpire.
The second test at Edgbaston saw the visitors bouncing back in the series courtesy of their captain, Shubman Gill. India registered their first win at the venue thanks to a record-breaking performance from Gill. Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj shared 17 wickets among them on a placid track in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. Ravindra Jadeja too made half-centuries in both innings of the match as his hard work paid off.
Having squared the series in the third test, India arrived at Lord’s with a great deal of confidence. However, the surface that welcomed the two teams in London was not at all similar to the first two tests. It was a slow, tacky surface where the visitors, for the first time in the series, were asked to bowl first. The Gill-led side was in a great position to take a lead in the series when they were asked to chase 193 in the fourth innings. However, disciplined bowling from England and some poor shots from India led to them losing the match by 22 runs.
